Hey Mark, really good to see you back with this build video. These Lunchies are as straightforward to build as they come as I'm sure you know, but will offer bags and bags of fun when on the track, in the woods etc. None stop action. You don't know how lucky you are ( or maybe you do ) in replacing those BS3 springs with the brace. Those BS3 springs for me are the achilles heel of this kit as they will snap - time and time again. Having said that the van runs just as well without them. Look forward especially to seeing what you do with that huge canvas of a body shell. Have a great weekend mate....😊🙂👍🏻
Hello my good friend! Yeah, I built the kit before I had to go to hospital - on sick leave now, so time to edit the footage and get the videos up! I had a little run in the garden and it was awesome! Oh, the brace was a great addition, it seems to run better than Rob's that is stock at the back end. Glad I don't have to worry about those springs breaking! The body looks great from a distance - but I messed up the lacquer :-/ Oh well, all my cars are runners, so it ain't so bad! Wishing you a lovely weekend, too, buddy. :)
Are the bs3 springs the wire spring in the rear diff mount? I should know I built a Hornet on 1 week ago. If that's them , I really don't like them. I actually reckon the Grasshopper hopper rear end was better and a only needed oil filled shocks. Sure it doesn't eliminate the problem with unsprung weight that's in the gearbox and differential. But the Grasshopper rear end is better than the Hornet I my opinion. I'm interested in doing the 5th shock modification to my Hornet though. It's basically a shock absorber put on the axle shaft that mounts the differential to the chassis, and then bolts to the main Grasshopper/ Hornet chassis up too. And it does eliminate that horrible sloppy differential slap that is present in both Hornet and Grasshopper.its available to view on RUclips. Looks great and such a smart idea too. Makes you wonder , well me wonder why Tamiya released the Hornet with this built in problem area. I mean I understand the entire principal of the design. But to expect those tiny tiny little wire springs to actually do this work on a chassis is pretty far fetched. Anyhow good news is it can be remedied with a 5th shock modification.👌💪👍
Mark I can't compliment you more on your style, you are so straight forward, and easy to follow this was so enjoyable, I wish it came out before I put my pumpkin together. I just finished the pumpkin and I would love to chat with ya about the hop ups I got for mine. Awesome man.

Really nice to see you back in action, Mark! I wanted a Lunchbox back in the 80'ies but never managed to get one, and apparently I still haven't managed. Thanks for the very kind comment, Andrew! It makes doing these videos all worth the effort to get positive feedback like this. Hehe, wish I did get thousands more views, maybe one day! I'm definitely trying to bring more builds to the channel - many thanks for watching them, it all helps the channel grow. All the very best from the UK! :-)
Glad you think so, Dom, I really appreciate that! I have been making these build videos for some time now, and I'm still trying to make them better. All the best from Mark... :))
Another nice build video. Those "home made" 3D braces tend to crack. I took the plunge and got one from Shapeways. About £15 to the UK but was worth it.
Nice, Mark! Finally got some time to start watching this series. Uhh, that pinion and motor mount was all new to me. I always thought the set up was identical to the Hornet (same gear box) ... but it seems they've chosen to gear it down with that 10T pinion ... maybe because of the larger tires. Makes sense, or else it would probably do 40 kph with the 18T Hornet pinion. Too much for Tamiya :-) Anyways, I enjoyed watching as always. Hope I will soon get time to watch part 2. All the best to you, my mate.
Cheers, mate! I'm glad I was sent this kit or I might have never got one! A very enjoyable build. Yes, I think you are spot-on about the pinion! Glad you enjoyed the watch, always best to my Danish friend! :)
You´re back! I´m very pleased to see that you seem recovered. I greatly enjoyed this as I had a Midnight Pumpkin for many years, and the gearbox assembly lives on as an integral part of my electric converted Mardave Stockmaster. After 30 years of trouble-free service, it´s started making a worrying clicking sound under load, so I´ll be referring to this video again when I get round to pulling it apart to see what´s up. One thing I´ve often wondered; why is it that the Lunchbox went on to become a Tamiya icon, while the Midnight Pumpkin, with its gorgeous ´53 Ford F100 body, ended up as a forgotten footnote in Tamiya history? Can anyone shed any light on this?
Hi Del - yes, back for a while, hopefully! I am resting, but still have the same symptoms :-/ At least I'm well enough to make some videos and it keeps me occupied... Hope there is nothing too serious with your gearbox! Let's hope it is a cheap and simple fix. I know you are an avid fan of the Midnight Pumpkin, with good reason! I agree, the body is it's crowning glory. I have no idea why the Lunch Box became the icon, but maybe it's the strange love affair that many seem to have with old vans, like the Bedford, Transit and VW Camper? I hope we get a few comments on this thread, very interesting thoughts, Del! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC I loved the Bedford CF, and have owned a Mk. II Transit and a VW T3 camper, so I do see what you men about the appeal of old van bodies. Let´s see whether anyone else weighs in with an opinion on why the Pumpkin gets overlooked. I do hope that making RC videos serves as an effective distraction from your malady. It certainly helps me! Have a good weekend : )
Good afternoon mark hope your keeping all good bro 😎 and dude definitely one of my all time favourite cars buddy. Hi Mark, first things first, how are you? I’ve seen comments of feelings of pain, hospitalisation and sick leave, are you actually on the road to recovery? It’s great to see you back in the workshop, building a fantastic Tamiya. I know Pete loves the Lunchbox and has heavily modified his to a real brushless mean machine. Nice editing and great that you’re keeping your mind busy while convalescing. Get well soon bud, look forward to seeing back at the favourite stomping ground(s) giving that Lunchbox its first run. My regards to the family too.😉👌
Thanks very much, John, you are very kind, Sir! I left an explanation on your channel. Oh yes, this will never be as crazy as Pete's Lunchbox!!! But then I never go too mad with the power, it just causes too many issues with wear and tear for my liking. Regards to you and yours, too, my good friend.
By the way, I love hearing that frog or cricket noise in the background. Surely contributes to the relaxing effect your videos have on me. It seems they are to be heard all year round where you live. Or do you edit that in? :)
Glad you like them?!?!?! Hehe - TBH Bob, I did listen again to see if I could hear something!!! Maybe I should add some next time! Take it easy, mate! :D
Hi mark very nice build and the information will help me with the build i will be doing very soon just wondering where i would get all the upgrades that you done 👍
Came here when i was about to build my tt02 Quattro a2. And i really enjoyed your videos about it just wanted to thank you for the videos they helped me alot. :) Greetings from Germany ps im experiencing knocking when im steering to the left does anyone have a solution for this ? Thank you in advance
@Blitzen RC turned it down and its still knocking but only when driving if i have it in my hand and steer noting happens could this be the servo grinding on the driveshaft ?
Great to hear! Glad you like the videos! Sorry to hear you have a knocking problem!!! Maybe your servo wasn't centred correctly when you installed it? Sorry, but it's very difficult to diagnose a problem via text messages, much better if we can see the car in front of us! I hope you get it sorted - best regards from England. :)
@@MarkBryanRC i turned the servo range a bit down and it is gone i was just wondering becuase it didnt knock when i tested by holding it in my hand big thanks to all of your nice and Helpful Replies
Awesome. I just got a lunchbox. I am wondering what the 3d printed part does instead of the spring. And I wonder if there is somewhere I can download it to print it myself... Great vid! Thanks!
Hi Mark. Great vids, thank you 👍Used them to help with my sons Midnight Pumpkin build. Question, what did you do about the on/off switch in the end? Ours is too small for the prefabed hole provided and I'm trying to work out options. I'd rather be able to get to it without taking the shell off constantly... Lemme know if you would please. Cheers!
Hi Oliver and thank you for the great comment! I'm really pleased that the videos came in handy. As for the switch, yes, mine was too small for the provided holes in the chassis, so I ended up sticking it to the side with a dab of hot glue. It's stayed in place so far, and I can get to it without taking the body off. All the best, enjoy that Midnight Pumpkin! :O)
Built mine back in early 2020. It was an enjoyable build, especially the gearbox. Wasn't so keen on the painting bit and went for a custom colour scheme as the yellow is so ugly. Fitted the metal bearings right at the start since there's no sense in using the plastic bushings. Recently been thinking about some other changes - like proper oil-filled shocks.
Hi Nick - yes, it really is an enjoyable kit to build, and even better when complete! Bearings are a must. As you saw, I also went with non-box-art! The transmission brace is also a great hop-up. All the best! :O)
Many thanks Dan! Oh yes it's a great kit. It does come with the grease and a box spanner and a hex wrench for the pinion screw, but you will need a cross head screwdriver and some side cutters or a knife. All the best! 😎👍
Hi Michael - It's not a Tamiya hop-up, but an after-market product. Here is a link to a set of aluminium body mounts on eBay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254157548012?hash=item3b2cf869ec:g:SSsAAOSwL35csbiN
Hi Mark! Do you know which grease Tamiya use in the Lunchbox kit by any chance? I want to get something similar in a bigger tub. Those little tubes don’t go very far! 😩🤣 Keep up the great work with the channel 👍👌
Hi Dan! I think the Lunchbox comes with the standard tamiya grease in a tiny tube (not ceramic grease or moly grease). I bought a big pot of Castrol moly grease from Halfords years ago and I use that on most my Tamiyas! Cheers! 🍻😎👍
GLAD YOU'RE BACK!! 🎉🎉🎉🍻🍻 That build WOULD be a "one-er"... I believe there's only 6 more parts than a Grasshopper! 😲😜😂 But it's probably good for some others that you slow it down a bit. I am SO glad you got that Gearbox Brace!! I was looking for a way to get one to you before you started. I'm glad that's sorted. 😊 You're about to find that these are more fun than a Cat with a Barrel of Monkeys!! 😁👍👍 What Turn Motor did you go for? Please - my dear Friend - check your email, and maybe spam folder!!! 😲 One of my titles may have triggered your inbox. I sent you 4 separate emails with a video each... That's, well, SHOCKING!! At least to me. I've still got the shivers after watching them! 😳😧 NOT vulgar or anything, just beyond surprising. Most importantly - KEEP GETTING BETTER!!! All our Love to you and your Family.
Cheers, matey - yep, could have done the build in one video, but as I thought this kit might appeal to beginners, I thought I'd go over all the build process in it's entirety - might help someone! Yep, that brace does a great job, so much better than stock. It ran beautifully in the garden, when it wasn't standing on it's back wheels, that is! It's a 15 turn Core RC motor - got a bit of speed! I got to your emails - sorry, but I usually watch them straight away, it's my replying that is slow!! I think I am OK, but the doc ain't so sure, we will hopefully see more next week. Take care, brother! :)))
@@MarkBryanRC took it all apart repositioned the steering made sure the trim was set to zero and its bang on. Was thinking about doing the 5th shock at the rear stop the drive shaft hitting the chassis and putting blocks in to level the servo

Goes very well on the garden lawn, but can't stop it wheelieing! Oh, Peter also sent me some threadlock - I think I may have applied some, off-camera! It's cool to be part of the Lunchbox gang, finally! Looking forward to filming the first run. I'll take it as easy as I can - have a cracking weekend, matey! :O)
Love your creation. Good Job. Thumb Up 👍
Thank you so much 😊
Hi mark, i am not a lunchbox fan but stil its a good vid again mate👍👍
Thanks my good friend Fons - it's so kind of you to leave a nice message, even if you are not a Lunchbox fan!!! 👍
👍good to see u back hope ur well
Thanks very much, Chris - I've been better, but now I got a bit of time to do some more videos! All the best, my good friend! :)
Thanks so much for making the video.😁✌🏻👍🏻
And thank you for the kind words 🙏 😊
Really nice to see you back in action, Mark!
I wanted a Lunchbox back in the 80'ies but never managed to get one, and apparently I still haven't managed. Looks like a nice build, so I'll definitely follow along with yours, and then someday get myself one also.
Have a great weekend when you get there, I know I'm about to start mine soon, cheers!
Cheers, Mads! Yes, I can't believe I never got a Lunchbox before. It is a nice, easy build, and is a real blast to drive. One day you should fulfil that dream and become an owner, too!
I will try to have a good weekend, I'm still on sick leave so I got time to edit some more videos! I bet you have started your weekend by now - enjoy it, my good friend!
Fantastic Job Mark , fantastic information as always and good advice 👍 its a really good quality kit 👌 really enjoyed every minute, this is abit cheesy but your voice actually makes me feel relaxed but not in a boring way 😀 stay safe my good Freind and hope to see you soon 🙏 😊
Thanks my mate Tony! 👍 Always a treat to read ya, buddy. Yes, it's a lovely kit to build and great fun. Hehe, I think my voice is so boring that some folks fall asleep while listening to me! It's very kind of you to say though, mate. Hope you are feeling a bit better my friend - chin up! :O)
Wow bud I opened my google app up and under the search guess what popped up? Yup this video. I didnt know my buddy Mark here was a super star.
Hey Kev, how ya doing? Haha, superstar?!?!?! Can't be anything to do with me then! Cool that it was recommended, must be due to RC stuff you search for. Many thanks for the message, bud, made me smile! :)
you do a fabulous job on talking through the build and your methods are great it takes the anxiety out of the building process , and im amazed that you dont have many thousands of views as theres no cock'n'bull with your channel i have found and am greatly happy to have come across it , thanks for sharing the build with us and hope yo see many more of them in the future , cheers from Australia :-)))
Best Lunchbox build.
Thanks a lot.
I still managed to bugger the axel gears up tho! 😫
And many thanks for watching! Oh no, hope you managed to sort those gears out! 😬 🤞🙏👍
Your build videos are very clear and informative 👍
Glad you think so, Dom, I really appreciate that! I have been making these build videos for some time now, and I'm still trying to make them better. All the best from Mark... :))
Another nice build video.
Those "home made" 3D braces tend to crack. I took the plunge and got one from Shapeways. About £15 to the UK but was worth it.
Thanks for the tip! I hope mine doesn't crack, but I'll certainly keep an eye on it. Cheers for the great comment, all the best from Mark... :)
Meine hat 13turns Motor, geht gut ab😂❤❤❤❤viel Spaß mit deiner.
Das ist schön zu hören! Ich wünsche Ihnen auch viel RC-Spaß! 😎👌👍
Quite cool. I actually watched this video while having Lunch :-)
How appropriate! Hope you enjoyed the lunch! :))
I am resting, but still have the same symptoms :-/
At least I'm well enough to make some videos and it keeps me occupied...
Very nicely explained I’ve still got my old lunchbox with the Acorns receivers and servos running the old mechanical speed controller lol and got to re-release is proper epic little car. Nice one for putting the bearings in to bro and cool little mod on the 3D printing part Mega thumbs up as always 👌👍👍👍👍 looking forward to step 13 and on woods
Thanks my friend Kirkster! 👍
Wow, even I haven't got a car with a MSC in it any more, proper OLD SKOOL!!!
Thanks for the ace support, bro - take care and have a smashing weekend! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC thanks mark I’ve got the lunchbox and grass hopper that have the msc still they just sit on the shelf these days as they are very brittle hope your keeping all good bro 😎
Thanks very much. Most of the upgrades can be found by typing their names onto eBay, that's where I get mine from, I just look for the best deals! 👍😊
@@MarkBryanRC thanks will jump on and have a look 👍
Cheers Mark guess what I bought lol go get mounts before it arrives
Great news, dude! Oh yeah, good call with the mounts - have fun when it comes! :))
Came here when i was about to build my tt02 Quattro a2. And i really enjoyed your videos about it just wanted to thank you for the videos they helped me alot. :)
Greetings from Germany
ps im experiencing knocking when im steering to the left does anyone have a solution for this ?
Thank you in advance
@Blitzen RC turned it down and its still knocking but only when driving if i have it in my hand and steer noting happens could this be the servo grinding on the driveshaft ?
You are a really good egg, helpful and very knowledgeable, too! :)
@@MarkBryanRC i turned the servo range a bit down and it is gone i was just wondering becuase it didnt knock when i tested by holding it in my hand
big thanks to all of your nice and Helpful Replies
@@toom__s Always welcome my friend!
Awesome. I just got a lunchbox. I am wondering what the 3d printed part does instead of the spring. And I wonder if there is somewhere I can download it to print it myself... Great vid! Thanks!
Hi! The 3D printed part was sent by Peter of CW-01 Creations. Sorry, but I don't know where he got it from. If I find out, I'll let you know. Cheers!
Great video!
I’m thinking about getting one
I was just wondering…
Does the kit come with the grease and the tools?
Many thanks
Many thanks Dan! Oh yes it's a great kit. It does come with the grease and a box spanner and a hex wrench for the pinion screw, but you will need a cross head screwdriver and some side cutters or a knife. All the best! 😎👍
Could you please tell us what the part# is for the body mount hop up?
Hi Michael - It's not a Tamiya hop-up, but an after-market product. Here is a link to a set of aluminium body mounts on eBay:

@@MarkBryanRC Thank you, a true gentleman.
Hi Mark!
Do you know which grease Tamiya use in the Lunchbox kit by any chance?
I want to get something similar in a bigger tub.
Those little tubes don’t go very far! 😩🤣
Keep up the great work with the channel 👍👌
Hi Dan!
I think the Lunchbox comes with the standard tamiya grease in a tiny tube (not ceramic grease or moly grease).
I bought a big pot of Castrol moly grease from Halfords years ago and I use that on most my Tamiyas! Cheers! 🍻😎👍
Very nice 👍😍👍 ~~~!!!!!
Thank you 🤗
Question will glue work for keeping the components in
Hi 👋 Alfie, yes I believe glue will do the trick 😉 I tend to use hot 🔥 glue!
Thinking about stripping down my Rising Fighter and putting the electrics in a Lunchbox. The Rising Fighter has been quite disappointing really
I know what you mean, it is a bit all over the place, but so is the Lunchbox, it gets away with it because it just looks so damn cool!!! :O)
cool
Thanks! 😊👍
GLAD YOU'RE BACK!! 🎉🎉🎉🍻🍻
That build WOULD be a "one-er"... I believe there's only 6 more parts than a Grasshopper! 😲😜😂 But it's probably good for some others that you slow it down a bit.
I am SO glad you got that Gearbox Brace!! I was looking for a way to get one to you before you started. I'm glad that's sorted. 😊
You're about to find that these are more fun than a Cat with a Barrel of Monkeys!!
NOT vulgar or anything, just beyond surprising.
hi sir.. need help how many pcs bearing i need to buy ? (1150 & 850) help me
Hello, Sir! I can tell you, you need 9 x 1150 bearings and 1 x 850 bearing! I hope this helps you my friend! :)
@@MarkBryanRC tq very much .. just received my kit yesterday .. and will buy the bearings.. btw , when you will upload pt.2?
@@nirojim6664 Hi friend - I hope to upload part 2 on Sunday :)
This is the only video I didn't watch before I built the lunch box yesterday I should have now I have steering issues from part one lol what twat
Oh no! I hope you can get it sorted out, good luck with that! :)
@@MarkBryanRC took it all apart repositioned the steering made sure the trim was set to zero and its bang on. Was thinking about doing the 5th shock at the rear stop the drive shaft hitting the chassis and putting blocks in to level the servo
Glad you got it sorted out OK! The 5th shock works well, as does the axle brace - cheers! :))
@@MarkBryanRC oh axle brace gogling
Whether you have a brace or not those axle springs break at the first jump and are a waste of time anyway
Got to agree with that! Those springs really aren't up to the job!
Step 11: disappointed you skipped assuming we all understood how to fit the axle springs.
Sorry about that! As you saw, I didn't use them - they break after only a few runs though! 😬
But you forgot to show how to set up the electronics!
Sorry, I did show where the components went - all you have to do is plug the servo into port 1 on the receiver and the ESC into port 2! Cheers! 😎👍
