Deadline to leave Hamilton homeless camp looms over residents

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC)- Another homeless tent city is running into trouble. This one is in Hamilton, and it's been around for years, but the people staying in it have only a few days to move.
The people living in the camp said they were told they had until Sept. 30 to find a new place to live before police clear them out.
The camp is behind the Hamilton Plaza, but you can't see it from Dixie Highway because it's hidden by railroad tracks and is in a wooded area.
Brittany Bishop said she's been coming to the camp for about a year but does not live there.
"To me, it's a place where I feel accepted and not just me, everyone and anyone that comes this way up to tent city is always accepted," Bishop said.
Business owners said they have noticed more homeless in the area asking for money, even some sleeping in front of empty storefronts at the plaza.
Bishop said she wishes the camp was given more time before being cleared.
"Because of our records, our jail records and just stuff like that, it's hard for people like us to get jobs, but sometimes we do get lucky and do get jobs, but it's not fair that they're shutting this down and kicking everybody out of here," Bishop said.
Help is being offered. Over the past several weeks, there have been outreach efforts held in an empty space in the plaza. Health and hygiene products, as well as information on assistance programs, are given to the homeless.
"They bring clothes and stuff even though it's being shut down in 10 days; they still bring covers and food," Bishop said.
Bishop is optimistic some of the people living here will get into a shelter, but several more said they'll just find somewhere else to stay.

It's hard for me to get a job and I don't even have a criminal record lmao. Leave these people alone. If they're not causing trouble, let them be.
