NO PART OF THE ORIGINAL SONG WAS USED. The bell was created with a virtual MIDI instrument. Drums were programmed with MIDI and bass was recorded with guitar and a sub octave effect.

-1979 Marshall 1960A Cabinet (with original Celestion G12-65's)
-The Schaffer Replica tower unit
-Weber Mass 200 Attenuator
-5 amp variac set at 110v
-Line 6 Mobile Keys 25
-Line 6 Relay G55 wireless unit
-Shure SM57 Dynamic Mic
-Sterling Audio SP50 Condenser Mic
-Line6 Pod Studio UX2
-Angus Young Signature Series Gibson SG
-Pro Tools 12
-Sony Vegas 11.1
-PodFarm 2.5

Hey Brandon I have a quick question....I was wondering how to get a Eddie Van Halen tone using a variac ...I currently have a bugera 1960 amp that is 150 watts ....I also have a variac very similar to yours..was wondering if you had any sugestions on how low to set the voltage ? .....plus I recently saw your video named
" jamming in the key of E(vh)" ....# great video ......I noticed you used the shaffer...I was wondering if you could make a video in the future on how to get a Van Halen tone useing a variac....Thanks for everything you ROCK!!!!!!!!!
Well EVH apparently set his around 90 volts. But there's a bit more to the story and I'm not sure how your amp would respond to that. I've actually been planning to do a video on this topic so be on the lookout because I'll explain everything!

The attitude, the playing, the vocals, the tone are all great - definitely one of the best covers of the song on RUclips. But here's the thing: The original song actually speeds up considerably after the bell intro. It jumps from about 96 bpm to 110 bpm. This cover makes a compromise of around 100 bpm across entire piece, which makes the intro feel a bit forced and the actual song to feel too slow. Not hating, just trying to provide some constructive criticism.
Yeah it does speed up in the original. Unfortunately I had to keep a constant tempo so I could program the midi drums.
@@JMP_2203 Depending on what you use for a DAW when programming MIDI you can ramp tempo up or down. Either way, great cover. Definitely in the top 1%!

bron shine Wow, thanks! Well it is a bit slower. The original picks up a bit after the intro but I had to keep this one at a constant tempo in order to put in the MIDI drums.

Very nice cover! What amp settings do you have for that? I have been trying to get the same tone for months and can’t seem to get it, I have a Marshall vs100 valvestate
Thank you! Keep in mind that settings differ between amps so unless you have the same model it will not sound the same. That being said, my settings are presence 0, bass 8, middle 5, treble 7, master 3/4, preamp 8. Also keep in mind that I was using the schaffer replica which has it's own impact on the tone.

I have an Ibanez and for some reason the g string sounds terrible and out of tune when I play. Why is that?
I have no idea. But it could be that your intonation is off. I'd look into that.
