      If you're putting a gen4 in your car, you're going to want to ground two yellow wires (yellow and yellow black). One is the starter relay control and the other is the powertrain relay control. If you don't either the engine won't fire or the trans will be in limp mode. Ask me how I know ;) Good luck!

    Hey Matt, great video and it's much appreciated for the help, advice. When you reference Gen4/5 tucks, what model years are those. I googled, and its showing compeltly different then what I'm understanding. I have a 2014 silverado, trying to figure out what Gen it is so I can follow along with your recommendations.
    Also, I put in Transgo SK and TCC kit along with a Circle D Torque converter stock stall. Would this setup still be considered "stock". Stock engine, stock exhaust.

  • @HammerFingers76
    @HammerFingers76 Месяц назад

    I rebuilt and tuned my 6L80 (by myself). HP Tuners / Bluecat, TrasGo shift kit. I followed this video to a T for the trans tune and everything is working great except for one minor thing. When I go hard on the gas off the line and then decide to abort (say I get to 20-30 mph and quickly let off the accelerator during WOT), it gives me a harsh kick in the pants on the 2-1 downshift. If I ease it down from WOT, it does a nice soft downshift like normal. Is there a place in my tune where I need to look to tell it to go easy on the downshift even for a quick let off of the accelerator during WOT? I am not racing so I don't need it to be so harsh on that downshift... I feel like it is anticipating that the instant removal of pedal command during WOT means that I am about to mash on the gas so it needs to hurry up and get ready for me.

    On the tire size dilemma, I just keep a tape measure handy. No tire has been true to size that I've seen yet and doing it this way has been correct every time on speedo.

    • @Matt_Sanford
      @Matt_Sanford  Год назад

      It isn’t a dilemma. How I said I do it is the way I found to be correct, every single time. I have verified it via GPS on every vehicle that I’ve tuned since I realized it probably 11-12 years ago. So that was more of a tuning tip. You can choose to do it that way or not.

    • @dirtyred9225
      @dirtyred9225 Год назад +2

      @@Matt_Sanford I was just adding to your tip as the difference in actual size vs advertised sizes differs from brand and size. Some "35s" are 33.5 and some are 34.5 and grabbing a tape takes all guess work and calculators out of the question.

    Excellent content!
    Question.... What about the purge enable function? Us guys who add to the clutch stack up on the 35r and 456 clutch packs....we get kinda tight on tolerances. Gm hard wired a clutch purge to happen on every new drive cycle just after the 2-3shift to quickly apply the 456 clutches assuming to purge air (?). Well that causes a small "bump" or bindup which totally sucks. So disabling the feature prevents this function. Thoughts on this solution??

    • @Matt_Sanford
      @Matt_Sanford  Год назад +1

    So tuning the slip speed on the torque converter down to a minimum…. Will this fix the The 8 and 10 speed transmission converter shutter? TSB says the fluid exchange fixes it but I’ve seen many that the shutter comes back

    I noticed on your first drive the desired slip is showing on the scanner as 4.5 rpm even though you zeroed everything out. Any idea where that desired 4.5 rpm is coming from? I have the same truck in 2017 model and it is showing 4.5 as well after zeroing everything out.

      That’s hidden parameters that HPTuners hasn’t defined. I haven’t had it cause any issues though but yes that’s not something we can eliminate at the moment until someone can find it in the binary file and add it to HPTuners or add it into user defined parameters.

    So I got around to trying bluecat and when I did the tune the car went straight for 6th gear no matter what I was doing lol. Clearly I messed something up hahaha I had a feeling the numbers I was adding to the table didn't add up but I'll try again later. It's easy to write the old tune anyways.

    So, had AFM turned off. My guy also turned lock up off in 1-4 gears. 5th and 6th still have full lockup. Truck still shudders in 5th gear at about 45-55mph. What should I tell him to do next? I also notice very firm downshifts now

    How much of this will apply to 8l90 trans tuning?

    In semi trucks, I know actual tire diameter is not the driven tire diameter because of just normal tire flex. I know my actual land speed is different when I'm empty versus fully loaded.

    would I lower the oncoming pressures and increase the oncoming volume to stop a shift bind? 2-3 clutches are too tight when rebuilt(guess). I'm getting close by increasing the volume but the reset causes terrible flares until the adaptives start kicking in. About a week or 2 later she starts to shift harder. I never liked that it had to flare until the adaptives took over but what you said at the end made perfect sense about the adaptives telling you "no dummy that doesn't work".

    • @Matt_Sanford
      @Matt_Sanford  Год назад

      The trick to getting one not to bind is to watch the datalog and determine which part of the shift is causing the bind. If the flare is bad and then it binds after the flare you would increase Oncoming and decrease Offgoing. If it binds then flares, you would decrease Oncoming and increase off going. This is actually the reason why I don’t like clutch height being altered from factory but you should be able to get it dialed 👍

    • @cpwood2888
      @cpwood2888 Год назад

      If I set it back to factory settings it doesn't flare that i can tell. The shift is violent and the final shift time is 75 mil sec. I then understood lowering oncoming volume would reduce flare so tried increasing until it started to flare. the adaptives then slowly bring it back to hitting like mike tyson. I tried lowering the oncoming pressure and it seems to help little by little but unsure if I'm doing something terrible to the internals. @@Matt_Sanford

      The shop swears up and down they set it to spec but I've exhausted my tolerance and probably going to take it in and make them verify the clearance. the stock tune file binds which 2-3 flares more often than not.@@Matt_Sanford

    Can you do Gen 4 WOT dry nitrous tuning video 🤔

    • @Matt_Sanford
      @Matt_Sanford  Год назад +1

      I honestly doubt I would make that video as you would just tune it like you would be tuning an N/A engine, you would just adjust fuel and timing for the nitrous shot.

    Is that half inch of tire diameter only for correct mph? Does that little bit change shift characteristics to the point where you will feel a difference?

      Yes it’s to correct mph. No it won’t change shift characteristics whatsoever.

    I have a 2018 Silverado, and I just want to take Dod off and tune the 6L80 for longevity. I already installed the surecool thermostat mod. Should I just tell my guy to turn off TC slip in all gears? I do combination in town/ interstate driving. What do you suggest? Just want to get rid of the shudder and make the trans last as long as possible obviously. That’s all
