These medications terrify me. I reversed my T2 with diet and exercise. I'm a 55 y/o who was 59 kg overweight. Went plant based, started walking twice daily. Lost 60kg, dropped all of my meds.
The medication damageed my nerves in my feet and legs. After 2 weeks I noticed a difference.but the damage was done. Thermo images were taken and I was told stem cells regenerate my nerves but it cost $4k for the treatment. I would have just excerised and changed my Diet 1st.
I'm at the beginning of the Metformin road. I've been working with my doctor for a year, FBG and A1c has continued to climb 6.4, now 6.9. I exercise 60-90 min everyday (and have for at least 5 years), lost 70lbs (without trying), have been vegan for 15 years, went WFPBBNO in Jan 2023 and worked with a Mastering Diabetes small group coaching for 6 months. I still cannot get my FBG and A1C down. I'm scared and very frustrated. Doctor gave me 3 more months. He wanted to start metformin last month.
Try The PH Miracle for Diabetes book by Dr Robert Young. It is also a whole food plant based approach, but there are some differences. Also when I drink green drinks my sugar goes down immediately. I like 'Betty Rocker Berry Vanilla' powder.
What happened? Have you tried intermittent fasting? Just 12 hours of no eating a day. I do 9p through at least 9a the next day, and 2-3 meals during the rest of hhe time. (You don't have to do keto with IF, by the way.)
I'd just take the meformin. I have PCOS and WFPB wasn't enough to control my spikes. I finally started metformin and it's effortless blood sugar control now and I can eat fruit and potatoes without worry.
Would like to hear your comments on Metformin Associated Lactic Acidosis (MALA). As a senior diabetic athlete on Metformin and Celebrex doing vigorous endurance exercise, I've encountered this on two occasions - not fun and dangerous. This subject doesn't seem to get much attention and might be of interest to other similar diabetics.
I use Metformin as a supplement to my "No sugar, no dough" meat and veggies primary diet. (I try to eat as narutal as I can) It is perfect for short-term use for people who have normal blood glucose, but high insulin and insulin resistance, like it was in my case. And you should ALWYS start with a diet and rely on it, this is just an additional boost until you get these insulin/insulin resistance levels down to normal.
I did plant based and I think this drug put me in ketosis because my ketones were extremely high and my breath smelled like straight chemicals, this was the case when my sugar was 90 and 200, i think it’s because prevents adsorption of sugar so you are left with fat, still not sure yet and the (rookie) doctor was confused too
This was in Europe, and only affected the time-release version of Metformin. It was taken off the market years ago.....However, the story will probably stay around forever and just get bigger........
Can you be carnivore or keto so long that you never are able to handle carbs again? Started eating low fat plant based 5 months ago, body doesn’t react to insulin, blood sugars stay in the 300’s , spiking above 500 when eating. So frustrated and scared and ready to go back to keto. At least I felt better and was able to lose weight and had barely elevated blood sugar.
Keto is a dangerous fad. It's not sustainable and you will die of stroke or heart attack, because that much cholesterol is evil. I looked at every angle (because, hey - I like burgers too) but saw no other course then a plant based diet. I have no regrets.
See a doctor. You might need insulin. Also you should have your c-peptide tested to determine pancreatic function of insulin producing cells. My dad needed insulin when his fasting blood sugars started to be in the 300's.
Yes. Definitely get a C Peptide test. It tells you how much insulin you are producing. The doctor doesn't offer the test, you have to request it. Also, I had great success with acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. Find a reputable acupuncturist that is well versed in Chinese herbs. It has made a huge difference for me.
I just listened to the entire video without a single useful advice. At the end he tries to sell his service. What a waste of time. He is like a used car salesman.

How long did it take you to lose the weight

Try just doing IF and 2MAD. High fiber, high protein, and limited carbs,

His advice is to try the low-fat, whole food plant-based diet.
Did you not read the title?? The purpose of the video was to explain how Metformin works, which he did in specific detail.
Well it's saved my life. So why slate it.
Just get in carnivore diet
So he selling Tha solution? Foh
