    Worldwide non-English speaking audiences simply don't care about The Wizard of Oz IP, and Broadway musicals are hard to sell on a different language and the original songs have no relevance outside the anglosphere.

      I think Universal was hoping Grande’s global stardom would help. I mean they did a huge international press tour. Unfortunately a lot of Grande fans skipped seeing it in theaters because her singing was dubbed over in most countries.

      It feels like so much of a repeat that I can't help thinking they could have done something else with Rome. We could have had Hannibal crossing the Alps with his elephants, or the Visigoths sacking Rome. It makes _The Return_ look interesting, even though that was in Ancient Greece.

    It’s sort of crazy that they’re doing a “Dexter” origin story, because they did that throughout the series, from him being found in a bloody shipping container, to his father training him how to evade capture & target his “deserving” victims. But in the prequel’s favor, the young actor looks good in the part, & the original actor will still provide the narration of the voice in Dexter’s head, much like he did in the original series. That will provide continuity.

    I rewatched the original Lion King animated movie today and I have to say, I just don't understand the story direction that this new Mufasa movie is taking. I had forgotten just how much they talked about royalty, tradition, and lineage in the original film (everything from Scar pointing out to Mufasa who got what genes in the family to Zazu saying that Simba and Nala had to get married because being betrothed was "a tradition going back *generations*". I don't understand why Disney has chosen to not only retcon all that, but to dethrone the most famous king in literally all of Hollywood history. Seriously, can anyone think of a more iconic king in Hollywood than Mufasa? It's madness and it ruins the magic of the original because it makes things like the birth ceremony or the "Under the Stars" moment feel strange, self-centered, and just ridiculous. Why, Disney? Why?😩 Did we really need to Ray Skywalk/Last Jedi Mufasa? Was there truly no other way to tell a Mufasa story?

For fun I asked all my coworkers and all (19 people) but 2 said Mufasa...the others mentioned King Julian and King Aragorn. And when you google the most famous movie kings, Mufasa is the #1 result. You won't find a more iconic royalty figure in cinema than Mufasa. So again, what on earth was Disney thinking?

    I think Wicked will be *popular* in Germany, as we have the Musical, too. It has already been playing this WE, though. Caveat - most playtimes are in OV, which is fine for me. Rare playings are German in Dialogue and English in Songs. This means that a lot of the kids and some of the adults would have a language barrier.

    I have a small town single screen movie theatre and I’m playing Red One for one week Dec 13 to 19. These way-too-fast turnovers to streaming are killing us. The studios won’t give us one week runs until anywhere from Week 4 to Week 7. And then some studios toss the same movies on streaming rentals without warning as early as Day 17. 😠

    • @sandal_thong8631
      @sandal_thong8631 14 дней назад

      Yeah, Baum never really wrote much about what happened before Dorothy arrived and what he did write wasn't accepted by kids (that the Wizard had the king killed and his daughter Ozma hidden away). My understanding was that the King's vizier or wizard died, so four wicked witches took over the four regions of Oz, leaving the king and his entourage in the central palace which became the Emerald City. The Wizard showed up and would take over this area but when he unwisely chose to go after the Wicked Witch of the West, she sent her animals after him to driver him out of the western Winkie Country which she ruled.
      Glenda the Good defeated the Wicked Witch of the South to rule Quadling Country in her stead. Tattypoo defeated Mombi, the Wicked Witch of the North to rule Gillikin Country. And Dorothy arrived to take out the other two wicked witches who may or may not have been sisters depending on book, movie or adaptation.
      So yeah, it seems weird in _Wicked_ that Glenda and Elphaba were friends with the latter being misunderstood and possibly driven to wickedness. But maybe corruption is the sign of the times that make people admire wickedness?
