I...think I might want to get into Legions Imperialis over 40k after watching this. There's a sleekness to the rules without losing strategy, and the scale is just so cool. The brutality of melee combat and the amount of armor you run just really feeds into everything I love too.
If only mainstream 40k would adopt alternate activation. Having both players actively reacting to combat results makes for a more exciting game to play and to watch battle reports of
i would like if 40k at least let players move 1 unit then the other just like shooting and charging/melee then some armies wouldnt table you in turn 1 /2
I agree, 40k (which I play) seems weird in the fact that it's like, oh you move you army, shoot me, than chop me up, then I will do the same to you .. real war is fluid and fast paced, I feel it should have more of an alternating flow to it as well.
@@christopherfreitas6510 A nice middle ground I've seen thrown around by people between the system as-is and alternate activations is instead of 1 turn being one player going through all of the phases, a turn is both players playing through each phase, so for example: Turn 1, during the movement phase of the turn, player 1 does all his movement, then player 2 gets to move, then during the shooting phase, player 1 shoots first, then player 2, etc. To keep some fairness/variety in turn order, on turn 2, player 2 gets to move first instead of player 1 and so on. Never played this way before, but it seems like it could be pretty good!
If I hadn't already completely escalated into this game, I would after this video at the latest! As usual, great quality, great terrain, great models. The action and dynamics of the game are conveyed superbly. More please!
It's wild seeing tanks and an ungodly amount of infantry go down in 1 turn. That melee in the center was wild. Deathguard killing auxillia, then titan killing deathguard, then tank killing titan.
I hope this gets the love it deserves!!! I wish Standard 40k games were as big as this felt! I live for those massive games, and to have it be fully realized in Legion Imperialis is cool!
Searching for second hand 40k models I stumbled across this game mode and thought hard about picking up at least one army. I just haven't found a group to play with locally
Amazing, so glad to see you playing this and i cant wait for more. One quick rules bit, there is no roll for void shield saves. Hits are just allocated to the shields and you reduce by one.
Thank you for playing this, wish it would come back in stock... Best batrep channel going, you guys make these games so much more digestible than the 2 hour slogs on other channels.
Excellent to see some LI. Fun and engaging report. A few rules issues but still a great report. Secondaries, you roll 2 and pick 1. No saves against void shield hits. Hits are allocated by the defender, so they decide what weapons go into voids and what need armour saves. Terminators added to a tactical detachment are part of that detachment, so can't deep strike. You cant charge on the turn you arrive from deepstrike.
Terminators added to a detachment *can* Deep Strike (I believe), but they have to deep strike into coherency with the tactical detachment they were added too. That makes for limited usefulness, but I guess it can protect them until they get where they need to go.
@@daviddonachie5333 check the deep strike rules on page 88. If ALL models within a detachment have the deep strike rule. The tacticals don't have it. So the rule can't be used.
Also: they didn’t use a single one of the Astartes legion special rules. DG would have easily turned the tide of battle had Nick bothered to not skim the rulebook and applied the Hazardous Terrain.
Your camera guy and your editor are top notch. Ive seen normal scale warhammer matches fall short of that cinematography. But your guys cleary rise to the challenge
The baroque, detail-intensive aesthetic of 30k is just delightful. In terms of tech and production, this was the Imperium at its absolute height. Things don't just murder your face into next Tuesday, they look damn sexy while doing it.
Much appreciated it, it took a whole day to add those markers throughout the video, a ton of work but I’m glad to see the that they helped with readability.
I used to play Tyranids against my Dad's Eldar back in the day playing Epic Space Marine. So this was a lot of fun to watch. Hopefully games workshop will introduce an Epic system again in the future so we can see Bio Titans again.
I wish to play Legions, but so glad you all are covering it, hope to see more of it as GW brings out more of it! Also would love to see Horus Heresy battle reports! Its a different game but would be so much fun to watch!
This is so exciting, I love huge scale combat and I love epic scale stuff! With LI finally getting a showing on Play On, I'm still holding out to see Battletech: Alpha Strike on the table some day.
Okay, hear me out. We all love 40k, but like nick said it can feel like a tiny section of the battlefield. 40k is also super expensive to reach ~1500-2000 pts. Do what me and my three mates have been doing, use armageddon rules and build your legions imperialis units as heroic-scale units (ie five-man tac squads, individual Contemptor, rhino, sicaran units). Then you can have huge 40k games on a shoestring. Oh, and you can field multiple titans without needing to sell every last organ in your body :) so freqking fun, and can be played on a small table with small scenery, honestly the best thing ever to come out of our yorkshire tea-addled brains
I'd personally love to see a game played with enough points to field full armies like this, but in the 40k setting instead of 32k. Imagine big size titans, massive swarms, full size groups of soldiers and astartes and knights stomping around 😊
One of my favorit things about this scale is the terrain. It seems easier to tell an interesting story and have fun inclusions that we don't see in larger scales.
They need to make this in 40k, how awesome would it be to have legions of titand and supertanks facing mega-gargants, tyranid biotitans, eldar constructs or necron monstruosities! How cool would that be? What kind of crazy xenos abominations can come in Legions Imperialis size!
I like that you guys are using stuff that is only available to most of us. I.E. stuff from the starter box and initial release. I've seen a lot of battle reports with flyers in them that haven't been available since Aeronautica Imperialis was around. Hopefully GW can get stuff back in stock and release more units so we can see more variety. I missed out on the Kratos tanks in the initial release and those seem to be super strong. Great job with the speed of the battle report. I'm sure it takes a lot of editing, but it's cool.
I’d love to see another one! If possible, could you have it so destroyed vehicles stay on table with smoke/flame markers and exploded ones get replaced with a crater? It’s more 7th ed but I always found it just adds to the atmosphere of the entire game.
Would love to see you guys take on something like Battletech. With your production values and paint schemes you could probably do something really epic in an amazing game (especially if you like big robots and tanks).

My university gaming group was super into Epic Space Marine back in the mid 90s, so it's nice to see Legion Imperialis!
Would love to see some regular sized heresy too! But this is great!
I agree, it's a real shame that they've done only one. Heresy feels rife with the narrative focused gaming they tend to do!
Nah this is fine, regular sized would cost a fortune.
@@nakata123 they already have a heresy army
