  • Hey guys! in todays episode we are again at a favourite local spot of mine chasing after some Tailor (bluefish for you American folk) but with a twist. We are going to see what these fish prefer when It comes to casting lures or throwing out stinky baits. The results may shock you!
    Videos have been a little slow as of recently as again I just cannot time the good weather with my days of work but we shall persist with the options we are given and I will try my hardest to get some more content out for you guys. Cheers!!

    Ahhh this takes me back! 30yrs ago their were no wooden walkways, just sand tracks across the island and it was chocka's full of tiger snakes, they loved the seagull eggs! We used poppers so you could work the whole area, as when the sun gets up they like to hide in holes in the reef, waiting for any mullet that cruise over the reef. Back then the average size was much bigger, anything under 60cms went straight back. My pb was 81cms but saw larger fish caught by others, we called the bigger ones gatekeepers! Some seasons in winter it would be a tailor, then a salmon, then a tailor then a salmon on and on. Occasionally we'd get a sambo too but getting them past the reefs was a challenge. If you can get there before sunrise it's awesome having the penguins running down to the water between your legs, amazing stuff! Great vid guys, good to see the place still produces. :)

      @@andyk8322 thank you mate, but honestly my catches were average compared to the old boys who introduced me to the area! They used to baitcast gardies on quad gangs and big Alvey reels, even saw a Spaniard taken there once by a bloke in his 60's. Was told dhu were a regular bycatch when the whites were walking back when there were shacks on the island...in fact I have found dhu 300mts off the back when diving for Cray, so it's still a possibility.

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  Год назад

      Generally all through winter and spring you get good runs of tailor in many places as far as i am aware. Winter can be a little harder to find a decent enough day to get out there so for me i do most of my tailor fishing early spring. This place is located in shoalwater but can be very difficult to find the right day to fish. Other places nearby can be point peron as an easier alternative

  • @PorkHunt100
    @PorkHunt100 Год назад

    That reef looks much the same as the reef around Point Peron, have you's ever fished that? What about Warnbro/Safety bay beach? Do they get a run through here?

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  Год назад

      I have done a few lazy sessions at point peron to no avail. I reckon if I actually woke up earlier and fished the bite times it could have produced but its definitely not as plentiful like penguin island i can say that much. You can get the odd fish coming through anywhere but it will be hard fishing and probably plenty of donut sessions. Best bet is to try beaches like secrets or madora in some fresh slightly choppy conditions. Preferably wind from the se/sw

    Hey guys I'm new to fishing and live here in Perth too, what do you look for in the weather when going fishing in terms of swell and wind direction ?
    Would really appreciate the help as it's one of my dreams to catch and eat a fish (literally)

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  Год назад +1

      I usually look for light Easterlys. Swell does not really concern me especially in summertime. But take what you can get here as usually around 11-12 we get a very strong south westerly wind howling through know as “the fremantle doctor” fishing here is all trial and error so go as often as you can and it will work eventually

    • @pabloeskybruh7154
      @pabloeskybruh7154 Год назад

      @@kookfishin right so is that because the easterly wind pushes the fish closer to our western border ?
      Would this theory work for say positioning yourself on the swan river

    Yoy have to fish the species and conditions that are presented. Tailor just love flashing moving small bait fish. A small metal slug lure will do it every time. The general best choices a the metal slug and like a halco twisty.

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  2 месяца назад

      its a livre reel balancer. it helps with evenly distributing the weight so it eliminates wobble when winding but i think its a little gimmicky, i havnt really gone out of my way to see if that is true or not. theyre perfect for placing your reel down to prevent scratches and personally i love how they look. i love to customise my reels so it doesnt look like everyone elses

    The challenge was void as you only had 3 lots of gangs with ya. I feel that there was alot of bias for lures and bait was unfairly represented. As a kid all I did was use bait to catch my fish and caught some monster fish. Sorry if I come across negative, I just hoped for a better representation of both tackle options so it accurately reflects the actual result.

    • @kookfishin
      @kookfishin  7 месяцев назад

      to be honest here with you mate there was a lot of fishing done while the cameras where not running. i had plenty of casts with bait and barely any attention at all while my mate using lures would get constant hook ups. safe to say on THAT particular day the lures where the better option. could be because they where casting further as i only had an unweighted rig? who knows, you just cant predict these things or exactly put your finger on the exact cause for things like this. it isnt exactly a video i made to DIRECTLY talk about what works better. sure the title states "BAIT vs LURES" but its more for a little bit of fun with a good mate of mine and a good excuse to get out of the house and take a camera with me and to have something to talk about. i would definitely love to make a video in the future putting both to the true honest test but to be honest with you that is almost impossible to successfully test since there are too many things that come into play. but regardless i hope you did enjoy the video and can look passed the title. cheers
