So glad you've finally finished his works. I always find myself wishing there were more, but then I go back and find some old story I haven't heard for a while and it's almost like new. Thank you, Greg! You kept me going over lockdowns! Your voice is now for me completely synonymous with the Holmes stories - that is the biggest compliment I can pay you. You are a wonderful reader - a consummate vocal performer. My sincere thanks!

Just wonderful Greg. Your voice and performance are what I heard in my mind's ear when I first started reading the collected works of Sherlock Holmes in the 60s. Thank you so much!
Ohhhhh, Greg...you once again showcased your beautiful talent! Dr. Watson's voice sounded aged, as it should be, I believe; and Holmes' chatacter, you always are spot on when it comes to delivering his "personality". Fantastic job!,👍 Very sad story for the two friends to have experienced the presence of the Veiled Lodger. Holmes most likely was depressed for days after getting the note. I shall miss new stories from these gentlemen but, alas, the stories you have read on them are here forever for us to come back to. That's what I do every single night. Congratulations on all your success. I originally followed/subscribed to your channel for Hound of the Baskervilles but was extremely ecstatic that you kept going with everything Sherlock Holmes. You read very well indeed.
Nicely done and thanks for this princely gift. You’re right; it’s much stronger than the others in the last collection. It doesn’t matter that Holmes didn’t solve something, it was an enthralling story.
Once again, excellent work! I love the slow pacing and the silences. So many narrators seem to be afraid to pause between sentences, and yet it is a natural part of speech. It makes your narration soothing to listen to, on top of a very pleasant voice.
Thank you so much for all the recordings! I knew the stories from Czech translations but your narration painted them in true vivid British Victorian colours for me, even more than the Jeremy Brett series did. There are hundreds of details I suddenly noticed and understood, and dozens of historical trivia I learned. This story truly is very moving. I remember the sentence "I´m sending you my temptation" from my childhood. The final conversation between Holmes and the veiled lady is so... human. It shows what a vast gap, or even a precipice there is between two people who lead vastly different lives. It´s like they each live in a different world. And the reader can understand both of them. Holmes´ words must have sounded incredibly hollow to the veiled lady... and yet she was strong enough to obey them. Holmes doesn´t sound like the usual Holmes here. I think sir A.C. Doyle knew conversations like this from his medical practice. Perhaps he was in the role of Holmes, talking to patients with cancer about the importance of patience in this impatient world, but knowing how hard it is for them... I´d love to hear you narrate Walden by H.D. Thoreau, plus Brother Cadfael stories by Ellis Peters, but they´re probably not out of copyright :-( And a Polish chemist Waclaw Golembowicz wrote great Holmes pastiches "Chemical Stories of Sherlock Holmes".
Hi MartaVdz Very interesting observations. I think there is something very spiritual here - something Doyle is acknowledging perhaps as he comes to the end of his career. That Holmes has limited powers in the great scheme of things? Anyway, I did find it a great story on which to end. Someone sent me 'Walden' and I'm afraid I've never opened it: I'll have a look at it soon! These Chemical Stories sound very interesting - are they available in English translation do you know? Thanks MartaVdz!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Oh yeah, agreed! "That Holmes has limited powers in the great scheme of things?" Might very well be. It shows how much times had changed and sir Conan Doyle had changed, since Holmes was seen as an all-powerful protection against criminals like Jack the Ripper in the 1890´s. The last few cases are also more modest, no big state affairs 🙂 Unfortunately, it looks like the nine Chemical Stories haven´t been translated into English 😞 Which is a shame because they really are interesting. Well-built plots with unusual details. They include a story where a duke puts his diamonds in a bank safe but a month later, he finds worthless pebbles in their places. And a story where Holmes sees an oddly woven spider web in a garden and insists on investigating, because he deduces that someone is poisoning someone with a certain type of alcaloids in that house. I hope they will be translated into English some day 🙂 All the best to you, sir, it´s been an honour 😊 www.empik.com/przygody-chemiczne-sherlocka-holmesa-golembowicz-waclaw,p1180432960,ksiazka-p
I cannot thank you enough Greg for what you've brought us over these couple of years. Your reading voice sounds like a highly trained voice 😃, it takes away all the fatigue and stress of the day! I always loved reading Perry Mason too. Hope to hear one of those read by you. Thanks again
Hi, Latika Dhar. Glad you find my voice (trained a bit!) soothing/relaxing! Not sure about Perry M due to copyright but who knows - maybe eventually! Best wishes.
As I listened through your closing comments I couldn’t help but feel a bit like the last time I got to speak with a close relative before his passing. While not of the same magnitude, this is the close of a chapter that has meant much to me over the past few years. I eagerly look forward to your future content, Greg, and 38:04 I do so with a bit of FOMO on the comfort the SH stories that accompanied many a walk, home project, and quiet fireside with a pipe. I remain confident of your ability and talent. I know I won’t be disappointed! A sincere heartfelt thanks for sharing your amazing talent! I remain indebted to you for it. Cheers!
What very kind remarks. Glad to have accompanied you Soul Patch Piper. I'm sure we'll find some diverting new tales shortly... well I hope so anyway. Best wishes!
The narration has always been amazing and the ending to the Sherlock stories was magnificent, the emotion that you put into it really shows and made it really something special. A very good ending to an amazing series.
A very large thank you for all of the stories you've made accessible. I've had many of the stories in my bookshelf for years, but it's simply much better coming from you than the voice in my head :)
Thank you for your efforts and talents to bring the whole cannon to us! You have become THE voice in my head for these readings and I look forward to whatever you choose to gift us with next. 💜
Dear Greg. That was excellent, thankyou so very much. And what an accomplishment! All the stories done now. Such fine renditions, very much appreciated. What next I wonder?! All best wishes and a heartfelt thankyou for sharing all of the SH tales.
I have listened to every one of these of these past few months during my commute to work. You, sir, are *the* voice of Sherlock Holmes forever in my mind! Thank you for doing this!
Agatha Christie would be fantastic. I have listened to your readings so many times. You have become the voices of Holmes and Watson to me. Thank you so much.
Thank you and thanks for the tip, MKR. You may find that my voices for Agatha Christie are indistinguishable from my Arthur Conan Doyle ones ;-) Cheers!
Thank you for reading Sherlock Holmes. Several nights you have helped me stay balanced by listening to stories about Sherlock. Your voice and the stories are very soothing to hear in this chaotic world.
Thank you for the amazing gift of your voice and these stories. I enjoy listening to them again when I can. I vote for Christie next. If you ever tire of mystery, I think you would do a fantastic job of the Jeeves series by PG Wodehouse. You would do a fantastic job reading the shipping report! Looking forward to what you do next.
Dogger Bank! Thanks Jayce. There is a version of What Ho, Jeeves read by me on audible, if that's of interest. Quite a few of them are still in copyright in the US, all of them in UK and EU.
Greg, you are by far my favorite narrator and you’ve helped me to sleep many, many nights. I’m certain whatever you wish to read to us in the future will be just perfect. Thank you for your work!
Wow! I'm going through all the stories in order and haven't started Casebook yet, but great job completing this body of work. So far, yours is honestly the definitive rendition of Holmes to me, it's the one I hear when I think of the character. Thank you for all the work that went into these! I'll look forward to anything that comes next, but if you still need suggestions, I recently scoured for H.G. Wells on your channel and was left wishing for more. :)
Thank you SD... I've done quite a bit of HG Wells and it's on Audible and other outlets. My favourite Wells novel is Tono Bungay - not to everyone's taste - but that's on there too. Cheers
Greg, it has been a boon to hear u read these terrific stories & I agree this last is the most thought provoking as it plays out, little detecting but a much clearer view of Holmes humanity. Smashing, many thanks for the journey.
Thank you so much, Mr. Wagland for these amazing, superb pieces of art. You've lifted Holmes & Watson off the page and given them such life. Thank you, Sir.
This is hard to believe that this is the last ACD+Holmes story! I guess I will go back to the first and listen to them all again. I also look forward to other stories you read for us.
Well, the only thing now is to go back to the beginning and listen to these fanastic recordings all over again. Thank you Greg and thanks for kinda breaking the 4th wall and chatting to us at the end. Would you be tempted to have a go at The Lost World?
My version of The Lost World is available on a podcast called Classic Breakdown! I’m breaking the 4th wall with a wrecking ball in that one! Be warned!
@Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio fantastic. She has a great history on the East Coast, especially from Sunderland down to Whitby. Hope you enjoyed your visit
These stories enhance knowledge and way of thinking and looking into matters I have been enjoying these fascinating and thriller stories over past 3 years , I am glad that even a non English speaker I fully comprehend these stories and the pronunciation of these words is precise a American touch , thanks for rejuvenating these amazing fantasies
Years ago I never really liked Sherlock Holmes stories when I either listened to them or saw TV series because somehow they weren’t 'right'. Then I heard you reading them Greg and then suddenly it all came to life. Your Sherlock was REAL he was the one I could believe in. He was exactly how I imagined him to be - he sounded just right! I fell in love with not only Sherlock but with Watson. You are so talented Greg! I have loved every story of your portrayal of these characters - it’s been a really magical journey and I keep forgetting to tell you this! But here we are - at last. Also, you have helped me through some really stressful times, whisked me away to so many amazing adventures - so, a VERY BIG THANK YOU! Greg!!!
One of my least favorite Holmes stories but one that has a powerful & important message! Thanks for recording! I'm always promoting your work with my fellow Holmes/Conan Doyle fans! Cheers Warren of the Regina Irregulars!
Thank you Warren! Yes, it's not a story of derring-do but a nice way to wrap up the series. Thanks for promoting me. Where do the Regina Irregulars hang out?
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio -- Hi Greg! We hang out in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada! We meet monthly & each month we focus on one of the canon stories: this month, it's "The Yellow Face." I'm also on RUclips & I cited your work in a video I made about "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes": ruclips.net/video/LBYxju2C_iI/видео.html If you give it a look, let me know what you think! Cheers Warren!
I cannot thank you enough..I have enjoyed your narration so much.. You have helped me through a difficult time. Your voice is mellifluous and perfectly suited to these stories. I can see Mr Holmes and Mr Watson as I listen to you. These have stirred a feeling of closeness in me to my dear departed dad who loved the Sherlock stories and who I know would have absolutely LOVED hearing your wonderful readings. I'm happy to say that I've not been listening to these in order so I do have many more stories to enjoy and I have no doubt that I shall start listening again once I have heard them all. My very best wishes to you. Cheers from an ex-pat Brit in Ontario, Canada.
Thank you once again for an amazing performance bringing this story and Sherlock & Co. to life! I would love to hear more Sherlock Holmes style stories. I love how these adventures are performed by you!
I love your readings Greg and I will certainly revisit Holmes' stories in the future. I also love your 'Classic Breakdown' podcast reading of Dracula, please continue! For a follow up to Holmes, why not look up 'The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes' compilation that was put together by Hugh Greene in the 1970s, and which showcases a number of authors who were writing short detective fiction around the same time as Conan Doyle. The stories themselves are in the public domain and they are a great jumping off point for exploring the emerging market for detective fiction in the wake of Conan Doyle's success in the Strand Magazine. Keep up the excellent work Greg and many thanks for your excellent readings.
Thank you. You have an amazing voice and skill reading these. I am sad this is the last. I am looking forward to the next works you will read. Thank you again for all your hard work and providing so much enjoyment.
Thank you so, so much for all the effort you have put into these productions. Beautifully read and by far the best delivery I have heard since I discovered these stories almost forty years ago. The work you have put in is greatly appreciated. I have to say, you come across as a thoroughly lovely chap and wish you all the best for the future of your channel.
Dear Greg, firstly, congratulations upon completing the Conan Doyle canon of works. What an achievement to be proud of. I absolutely love listening to you read, you are truly gifted. I hope you realise how much your hard work and careful preparations for each reading are appreciated. I wish you the very best for whatever you choose to read to us next. And yes, what a deeply moving story that was. Thank you again. Rachel.
Greg, brilliant as always! This is a most unexpected gem. As wonderful as Sherlock Holmes stories are, they do follow a predictable pattern insofar as the characters are concerned. But this piece…shows Holmes in a different light. His humanity, compassion and reverence for life is on full display and his clinical detachment is at last eclipsed. Thank you for sharing another side of Holmes!!
Thank you , your readings of sherlock holmes has got me through some very tough times over the last few years and I'm eternally grateful. I hope you will keep posting stories and no doubt they will be just as enjoyable. Best wishes x
Thank you Mr.Greg for this deeply insightful and touching episode from which i extracted some brilliant quotes to jot down as I always do with every book I read.As for me ,i still have a long way to go with Mr Sherlock Holmes .You can never imagine how your vocal performance has such a soothing and clearing effect on the human mind .Neuorologists know better. You' re a divine gift .I would recommend Agatha Christie ,if you please ,all the same anything you 'll finally decide on will be equally and adequately satisfactory .Good luck .
Oh goodness thx for this! Seriously Greg you are responsible for the absolute love I have for Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and I would just like to thank you for that. Your narrative talents are amazing ✌️❤️
Hallo Greg! Ich höre deinen Kanal, um meine Kenntnisse in Englisch nicht zu verlieren und weiter zu vertiefen. Deine klare Aussprache macht das Hören zu einem Genuss - Danke aus Deutschland! Hello Greg! I listen to your channel in order not to lose my knowledge of English and to further deepen it. Your clear pronunciation makes listening a pleasure - thank you from Germany!
Greetings Gertraud from an unusually warm England. Glad my readings have been helpful. Prost (can it mean ‘thank you’ in the same way as our cheers does?) all the best!
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 and thank you so much Mr. Greg. I enjoyed your Sherlock stories through the years and learned a considerable portion of my current English. Best of luck for what is next ! Never stop narrating!
A beautiful story and a fitting end to your Sherlock Holmes stories ..thank you so much for countless hours and countless more to come.....there is one book in particular I'd love to hear you narrate and I believe it's in the public domain ...wind in the willows , would dearly love to hear you do that ..and the varied voices you could bring to mole, ratty, toad and mr badger
A very fine read my good sir Greg. At the end of the story I was slightly dissapointed with how little Sherlock Holmes did in this story, like in the Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb. But I do agree with your view of the story. It is thought provoking. Also you saying that it is the final canon story got me to wonder how I first heard of Sherlock Holmes. Was it a movie, the poster with the hat and pipe, a cartoon or did someone mention him or his proffession. In any case this story does show on of the greatest virtues that Sherlock Holmes can teach us in my view. He is a great listener. I look forward to more content from you. Cannot wait to hear what you will read for you next^^
Thank you Strutter. I can't quite remember how I first encountered Sherlock Holmes. Possibly a Basil Rathbone / Nigel Bruce afternoon matinee on TV when I was a lad! Cheers!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio I have to settle with that it might have been Disney's Mouse Detective. Great movie, which had sound clips of Basil Rathbone from the Red-Headed League.

The last few cases are also more modest, no big state affairs 🙂
Unfortunately, it looks like the nine Chemical Stories haven´t been translated into English 😞 Which is a shame because they really are interesting.
I hope they will be translated into English some day 🙂
All the best to you, sir, it´s been an honour 😊

Wonderful reading Mr. Wagland. Thank you very much for sharing your work with us. 😊
You're very welcome, TA.
Thank you Lake Nate!
one of my favourite channels on youtube
What the heck is this? 12:51
A very large thank you for all of the stories you've made accessible. I've had many of the stories in my bookshelf for years, but it's simply much better coming from you than the voice in my head :)
Thank you RQ
Thank you for your efforts and talents to bring the whole cannon to us! You have become THE voice in my head for these readings and I look forward to whatever you choose to gift us with next. 💜
Thank you, Jeri. Kind of you.
Dear Greg. That was excellent, thankyou so very much. And what an accomplishment! All the stories done now. Such fine renditions, very much appreciated.
What next I wonder?!
All best wishes and a heartfelt thankyou for sharing all of the SH tales.
Thank you Clair. Glad you enjoyed them. All the best
You may find that my voices for Agatha Christie are indistinguishable
from my Arthur Conan Doyle ones ;-) Cheers!
Thank you for reading Sherlock Holmes. Several nights you have helped me stay balanced by listening to stories about Sherlock. Your voice and the stories are very soothing to hear in this chaotic world.
So glad they were helpful, Cynthia! All the best!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio I didn’t know you had a title on Audible but I will look now!
Greg, you are by far my favorite narrator and you’ve helped me to sleep many, many nights. I’m certain whatever you wish to read to us in the future will be just perfect. Thank you for your work!
Thanks for listening Shilough. Kind of you!
Cheers
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Ahh, that's great to know, I'll check it out! Thanks for the response 😄
Greg, it has been a boon to hear u read these terrific stories & I agree this last is the most thought provoking as it plays out, little detecting but a much clearer view of Holmes humanity. Smashing, many thanks for the journey.
Yes GW, ditto @RickPound but with New York lingo.
A good one to end on, yes. Thanks Rick, but the pleasure was mine!
Thank you Greg. You make Watson and Sherlock come alive and have helped me through many a difficult night x
Thank you for listening, Debs. Glad they've helped!
Thank you so much, Mr. Wagland for these amazing, superb pieces of art. You've lifted Holmes & Watson off the page and given them such life. Thank you, Sir.
Very kind of you! Cheers Paul!
This is hard to believe that this is the last ACD+Holmes story! I guess I will go back to the first and listen to them all again. I also look forward to other stories you read for us.
I know. Thanks Holly!
Another very fine reading, thank you very much. Artificial voices will never replace real talent.
Yes, I agree. Thanks, Deirdre.
You're awesome Greg
Thank you super much for another reading 😊
Kind of you, Catherine. Appreciado muchos
Be warned!
Thankyou so much for all the Sherlock stories. After this I’ll no doubt start from the beginning (again) 🤣
Why not! Cheers Psychic
Thank you Mr Wagland. 😊
Thanks Hild. PS I visited a church dedicated to St Hilda only a couple of days ago.
@Sherlock Holmes Stories Magpie Audio fantastic. She has a great history on the East Coast, especially from Sunderland down to Whitby. Hope you enjoyed your visit
Congratulations
And thank you!
My pleasure, Code.
You gave us the gift of complete Sherlockian joy! Thank you Greg Wagland you are the greatest story teller i have ever listened to
Thank you, Hanna! Much appreciated.
at last ! Another one ! thank you greg ! from Normandie France
Greg!!!
Very glad you’ve enjoyed them, Jan! & thanks for telling me! It was a great message to receive on a rather gloomy day! All the best!
Credit where it is very much due! So pleased it brightened your day too!
Oh, I’m a poet it seems 🤣🤣🤣
One of my least favorite Holmes stories but one that has a powerful & important message! Thanks for recording! I'm always promoting your work with my fellow Holmes/Conan Doyle fans! Cheers Warren of the Regina Irregulars!
Thank you Warren! Yes, it's not a story of derring-do but a nice way to wrap up the series. Thanks for promoting me. Where do the Regina Irregulars hang out?
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio -- Hi Greg! We hang out in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada! We meet monthly & each month we focus on one of the canon stories: this month, it's "The Yellow Face." I'm also on RUclips & I cited your work in a video I made about "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes": ruclips.net/video/LBYxju2C_iI/видео.html
If you give it a look, let me know what you think! Cheers Warren!
The Victorian journey of Holmes & Watson is complete. Thank you Greg and keep up the great work!
Many thanks Scotticus. I'll try!
Thank you, Silvana from M. All the best to you!
Thank you once again for an amazing performance bringing this story and Sherlock & Co. to life!
I would love to hear more Sherlock Holmes style stories. I love how these adventures are performed by you!
Thanks Zeth.
Wonderful reading, sir. Thank you.
Pleasure, SF
A wonderful conclusion to your masterwork. Thank you for sharing your voice with us! 🙏
Thanks Ron. I really enjoyed The Veiled Lodger.
Thank you Carol for the tip. I'll have a look for that title. All the best
Magnificently told! Your voice has a healing quality and it has helped me for years to soothe my tormented soul. Blessings!
Kind of you to say so, ajarnStef. The human voice is powerful! Blessings to you too!
Another brilliant performance! Thank you Greg!!
Very kind of you Matt Matt. Thank you, sir!
Dear Greg, firstly, congratulations upon completing the Conan Doyle canon of works. What an achievement to be proud of.
I absolutely love listening to you read,
you are truly gifted. I hope you realise how much your hard work and careful preparations for each reading are appreciated. I wish you the very best for whatever you choose to read to us next.
And yes, what a deeply moving story that was.
Thank you again.

Many thanks, Rachel! Best wishes to you!
A deep and heartfelt thank you for your amazing gift to us all.
Thanks for listening. 🍻
WOW! I thought we'd reached the end of the Holmes Canon. MORE? Oh, joy! This is like finding an extra donut with the dozen you ordered. YUMMY!!!
Ha! But totally different to finding an extra donut but the dog's found it and licked off the glazing.

The Live Tour, of course. We'll need more Fridge Magnets, Mugs and kimonos for the merchandise stand. Leave that with you! Cheers Ring!
Thank you Mr Waglan for all your work with the Holmes audio series, as well as others. Will be looking forward to other productions!

Yay! You've done it again wagwag man. Xx
Thank you. You've done an amazing job on these and all of your readings. I know I'll be re-listening many times over.
Cheers SB
Greg, brilliant as always! This is a most unexpected gem. As wonderful as Sherlock Holmes stories are, they do follow a predictable pattern insofar as the characters are concerned. But this piece…shows Holmes in a different light. His humanity, compassion and reverence for life is on full display and his clinical detachment is at last eclipsed. Thank you for sharing another side of Holmes!!
Yes. One of my faves. Thanks for commenting, Ladymar
Thank you , your readings of sherlock holmes has got me through some very tough times over the last few years and I'm eternally grateful. I hope you will keep posting stories and no doubt they will be just as enjoyable. Best wishes x
I'm glad to hear they've been helpful, Dee. All the very best!
Great work and congrats what a gift!
Thank you!
Thank you, Merhan Abdelrahman. It's very kind of you. Good luck to you too!
Oh goodness thx for this! Seriously Greg you are responsible for the absolute love I have for Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and I would just like to thank you for that. Your narrative talents are amazing ✌️❤️
Thank you, Michelle. Appreciated.

You’ve done a marvelous job with the series and have so enjoyed your work. Thank you.
Agatha Christie would be awesome, so would Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman! Thank you for your wonderful readings.❤
That's a great idea! Thanks Pete.
This was truly fine story excellently narrated. Thank you for your impressive work.
You are AMAZING!! Thank you so much for giving us all the gift of your wonderful narration
Ha! Thank you!
