Happy birthday Joseph Paul DiMaggio. Your 56 game hitting streak in '41 is the gold standard and will remain unbroken.

I always thought that the Yankees and major league baseball over glamorized dimaggio due to historical folklore and the great teams he played on . But I was wrong. This guy really was that good. His statistics are unbelievable for the 13 years that he played and he missed 3 prime years due to military service. He was a hitting machine and real good in the outfield too . I'd probably add another 100 Homer's another 500 hits and 300 rbi if he didn't miss those years

@@christophermoltisanti9629 All of this began on their honeymoon, and in weeks, when DiMaggio felt he was losing control of her, he beat her more than once. Joe Jr. recalled being woken up one night by their fighting.
“I was asleep downstairs,” he said, “and I woke up to the sound of my father and Marilyn screaming . . . After a few minutes, I heard Marilyn race down the stairs and out the front door, and my father running after her. He caught up to her and grabbed her by the hair and sort of half-dragged her back to the house. She was trying to fight him off but couldn’t.”
The next morning, Joe Jr. asked Marilyn what happened.

He died 23 years ago today. I wish I had seen him play but he was before my time. He seemed a good man and I admire him for never never speaking about his late wife Marilyn Monroe. I believed that he was the only man who really loved her. Perhaps had she lived they would have gotten back together. We will never know. Still I'd like to think so.
