  • I invite you to watch the second in a three part video series. It is a method I developed which is an alternative to airbrushing complex camouflage schemes. It will be helpful in especially 1/48 and smaller scales. Note this series is not about the aircraft and their paint scheme accuracies - it is simply a new method to do fine line complex camouflages. #stuka #hasegawa #camouflage #paintpen

    Hello Keeto,
    I'm very impressed indeed...found your post during a search for camouflage techniques.
    I am not really new to the world of modeling, but I still work with airbrush and brush (mostly tracked vehicles). Recently I bought a BF110 and JU87 (because a long time ago I was more fascinated with airplanes as a kid). I was wondering how I could apply such fine camouflage on 1/72 and 1/48 scale. And you have already offered the solution!!! Many thanks and greetings from Belgium

    Excellent video! I can't wait to try this method as I don't own an airbrush. Question, how would you add the faded mottling along the fuselage, similar to other paint schemes?

    • @gordon_stiemens
      @gordon_stiemens 3 года назад

      Thanks Gentry. This method actually leaves a very tiny soft edge if you cover the spots or dots again with a thinner tipped pen. In the first video - with the Hs-129 - you can see the effect. But I know what you are referring to and I actually do that kind of mottling with my airbrush. However, I have seen modellers use fine sponge and a dabbing technique before with some good results and a lot of practice...

    • @distractedgeek
      @distractedgeek 3 года назад +1

      @@gordon_stiemens Hey Gordon, one more question, can you offer any non-airbrush tips on applying the swirl or Luftwaffe spiral to the propeller hubs? Maybe your paint pen might offer better control than using a brush?

    • @KeetoModelWorks
      @KeetoModelWorks  3 года назад

      @@distractedgeek naaaaaaah, I always make or buy the masks to make the swirl...or struggle with the decals for hours, LOL. I think the pen will give a better result than a brush but it is till going to give you a rougher edge than using a mask or decal...

    Thank you so much for the great tip👍🏻. I have a "spaghetti" camo to paint on a 1/72 FW-190 and also on a Me 110g 1/32 (I might be able to use a 0.2 airbrush for this one). The best is that I already have 2 pens that I was planning to use for Microset and Microsol but I really never felt the use for it, as a brush does the job. I just never thought about using them for paint, isn't that what they are originally made for ?😊. I realize that it's an old video but do you think that paint retarder can help, so that it doesn't dry on the tip of the pen? Thanks again👋🏻

    Amazing !!!! But one question, I tried to make the same type of marks using a pen Posca (0.7mm), however the edges of the camo marks became a little bit blur, not as you get hard edges. I think that the paint is too much solved in the Posca, but I would like to here your opinion.

    • @KeetoModelWorks
      @KeetoModelWorks  9 месяцев назад

      Hi, thanks! I am not sure as I have not used Posca pens before. One of the reasons I used empty pens is so that I could control the consistency of the paint etc. I have found there is a difference between thinning colours, i.e green needs more thinning than blue etc - even if it is the same brand of paint. I hope that makes sense and helps you.

    • @KeetoModelWorks

      No, not exactly. With the pens you have substantially more control of where exactly you want the paint, unlike with a sponge....the effect is also different from using a sponge.
