hi tommy can i just plug a router to a bgw210 from att without additional configurations ? because there are videos that you got to disable the wifi from the att modem?
In order to get the fast wireless speeds from AT&T router make sure you desperate your network frequencies. Switch the network name for the 5ghz frequency to a different name and it will give you a faster overall speed. 2.4 frequency caps out at about 50 mbs.
I had a 5268 router before and noticed my devices were connecting on 2.4Ghz vs 5.0Ghz. I now have the 210 which has band steering and automatically connects any device to 5.0 Ghz when in range. I also habe ATT fiber 1G and speeds test are 940M down and about 800M up. So it is a problem with ATT routers ONLY on 1G service when you have a 599 or 5268. Thos are find with uverse with speeds up to 100M but if you upgrade, you should be getting and if not request for a 210 to get the optimal performance.
Doc Da Boss I'm so angry at att. They swear u 1000mb but then when u get 300 they say "u don't hv a computer and we only guaranteed one computer at 50% wired and wifi speeds are NOT guaranteed" can u believe this? What kind of fuckery is this? Now I hv to pay $300 dollars for a device that makes att void their free services. They won't even help u over the phone unless u buy the router from them or rent it.
Can you do a video on how to install and enable your own wireless router over the ATT modem/router for fiber? I just got ATT fiber and wanted to use my own ASUS router.
In the past what I've done is call the tech support team from my provider, you just basically read them your new router gate access number and model. They activate it over the phone.
I see this video is 4 years old and I have to disagree I have the 1 gig internet and it true you never get that 1 gig speed but my download speed is usually about 940mbps and the upload speed is usually about 950mbps and some times higher depending on the time of the day and I am using the both wired and wifi connections
I am an ATT wire technician. Our new BGW 210 RG “Residential Gateway” has a technology called band steering. You probably have 599 or the 5268AC. The reason you got the slower speeds when connected to our RG was you were stuck on the 2.4GHZ band. ATT names both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ networks names and password the same. Doing that on the new BGw210 enables band steering (which automatically assigns the faster 5GHz network to closer and newer devices, while at the same time assigns farther away and older devices to the 2.4GHZ network.). The 599 and the 5268AC have the same type of naming scheme however most new devices get stuck on the 2.4GHZ network. AT&T is sending it’s 1GBPS customers 940mbps down and 940mbps up. With a BGW210 I have personally tested 940 down and 940 up over Ethernet and 625 down and 730 up over wireless.
Tommy Callaway dont buy that bs. I bought the orbi router and i turned off the 2.4 ghz signal and im getting almost 300 mbps minimum. Which is bullshit on att’s part giving us a shitty router
I got the att router/modem for my fiber. 969mbps hardwired. 338mbps on wifi. Not too shabby. I don’t think I have enough wireless devices to use up all the 338mbps.
At&t only provides the necessity, if you want a stronger wifi capabilities. You will need to bridge your router behind At&t. Just like any other internet companies you get the minimum.
Elisha Khounthavong thanks i think I got it my laptop hooked up through ethernet cable I get about 960 mbps but my PS4 pro I get about 370 I guess my ps4 sucks haha jk thanks again
Holy smokes!! Man, am I glad I stumbled onto your video. This is GREAT info. Headed to Amazon now to look at this particular model. I'm in San Antonio, so I'm still trying to decide between AT&T, Google or Grande fiber. Just doing some pre-purchase research. This vid was very educational and informative. Thanks again, sir!!
I had ATT fiber installed Saturday (August 28, 2021. I have the BGW320 and I’m getting 1060 up and down: you can expect WiFI devices to be at best 700 until WiFi 6 gets here. My iPhone 12 Pro Max is getting 650-700 up and down. IF I USE MY WIFI EXTENDER, I get at most 170 down with 50 up. Gee, Tommy why do you think there is such a disparity in speeds? Perhaps the maximum speed is hampered by the slowest piece of hardware? Yeah, that’s what I think too.
Can you post a video on how to connect your own router to the att modem/gateway? I have my own apple wireless router and have no clue on how to connect it. Thanks!
I had DSL at 25 down and about 12 up and was happy. When my contract ran out my bill jumped $80 more a month. I have my stuff bundled, that is my direct tv, AT&T land line (VOIP) metered service and internet. They said they are doing away with copper and putting in fiber optics. I have both fiber going down the subdivision, AT&T and Comcast. Now I have fiber at 125 Mbps both up and down and my bill dropped to $ 117 for the bundle. I'm on my 2nd router. My WIFI would drop out every 9 minutes. Just like clock work, drop out and restart. AT&T sent me a new 'old' modem/router and I hooked it up and still getting drop outs. The tier two customer service in San Antonio told me it was because I was on a power strip! Yes! a power strip. I have since moved it to my 2,000 APC UPS. Being on a UPS doesn't have anything to do with the WIFI going out. My only thing that might be the problem is the Honeywell Lyric T6 Pro WIFI thermostat. It's been too hot to go in the attic and turn the AC system off and see if it still gives me dropouts. We are 'TMT' TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY and one day the whole shooting-kabootle is going to go up in smoke.
Clifford Williams answer is correct on 2.4 and 5G signals coming from Your AT&T NVG599, 5268ac, BGW210 are all able to provide 5G. Band steering has become better with time top speed seen from one of AT&T product wirelessly was around 500mbps but need an adapt dual band ac to achieve those speeds.
Prizoneroffaith Ephesians 3:1 look at the specs of the gateway att provides all of them are trash and can barley run any signal most modern standalone routers and support a whole house now
How do you connect that new "router"? Is it connected directly to the Ethernet coming from the wall? Or do you connected to one of the 4 ports in your AT&T "modem router"? My home is very small, a two floor home with 3 bedroom on the second floor and them down it is kitchen a nice living room all together. So I am having speed troubles downstairs and also upstairs. My speed doesn't go beyond 20-35 Mbps but I am getting Ethernet speeds 300 Mbps. I was expecting to get at least 50-60 Mbps on WiFi, but no such luck; thus, I am trying to find a solution to my dilema? Thank you for your video, but it doesn't seem to help at all.
I think they gave you a defective modem/router or one with an old version. I have a Pace 5268AC (2017) one of the old ones that got discontinued by Pace(when it got bought by Netgear) AT&T stopped giving them, AT&T now gives the new Arris BGW210, I have AT&T Fiber 300/300. And it works great, it almost reaches to 400mbps. I think they gave you an outdated software version in it. . The AT&T provided modem and router are good, just maybe the one you got had an issue. My speed is really fast and never gives up, and capacity is never an issue!
Most likely you have the older ATT router (nvg589 with 2.4ghz antenna) the new Att routers 5268 and 210 are in the 300/400mb range . Those have both 2.4 and 5ghz antenna.
Hey Tommy, I just recently got Fiber. I got the bulk white modem that's part of the package. My desktop when it uses the wifi from the modem, it only picks up at least 50mbps and it when it hard wired to the desktop I can't tell because it won't connect to certain website and it won't even get me into speedtest.net when its hard wired. Also, I've seen people with PS4's where they able to get 800mbps meanwhile I'm getting 50-70mbps? What would you recommend? I know this video is three years old, but was wondering how are you experiencing it now?
I am guessing that you run an ethernet cable from the 5682AC modem to your Nighthawk router and disable the WiFi connections coming off of the AT&T modem/router combo? I have gigabit as well and streaming a hockey game while my wife browses facebook causes it to buffer and sputter around. I would like to get a new router but am unsure if this is the proper way to hook this up or not.
I just got the Nighthawk R8000 thinking it would give me faster wifi speed than my 2016 AT&T modem. Well no cigar, get this, it's actually slower! How is that possible?
About 3 years ago AT&T said they are discontinuing DSL. That speed was 3 mbps dn and 2 or so up. Three years went by and they came out and gave me a U-Verse modem/router. My speed increased to about 5 mbps down and 4 mbps up. About 2 weeks ago I got my bundled bill (Direct TV, Land Line Phone and internet) the price went from $ 125 to $ 198 a month. I called them back and they told me they were getting away from copper and going with fiber to the house. They took out the old copper line modem and put in fiber. I am getting 125 mbps down and 120 mbps up. I am paying $ 117 for the bundle now. To me this is lightning fast. I don't game just get e-mail and surf the net. 98% of the time the internet just sits there and not being used. I put in an outside TV antenna about 25 years ago. It works great. I think I paid $30 from Radio Shack. I did a channel scan and picked up 120 over the air stations. Some are in Spanish, some in Vietnamese and some in Chinese. There are a number of old movie sub channels which I like. I would be afraid to change out the modem as it would probably send a red flag to AT&T and they would cause me grief!
I get 600 on my Mac WiFi with a BGW 210 att router/gateway. That’s the fastest computer/device in the house. My mobile devices are usually in the 300s. If you have att WiFi make sure you don’t expect 1000 WiFi and make sure you have a 210 or 5268 gateway. Att tech
so, I have the upright black box from ATT that has all the plugs on the back. 2 computers are hard-wired into the box, the land-line (for the old folks in the house) and a line to the security system. Is that the Router? or is there another peripheral we are talking about? _I wish RUclips allowed posting pics_ LOL
That's crazy fast. I have uverse 450 but no fiber. I'm in an old neighborhood. It's fast enough where I don't really notice lag or anything but the signal doesn't go very far.
well since you have atnt 1000 no its terrible but its better than the US average which is like 50/50 new netgear router and CAT7 ethernet cables will help do not use CAT5/CAT6 since CAT7s are newer and just better in general
Since I had AT&T fiber optic installed my Wi-Fi sucks. It all started about Jun 3 2019. My WiFi started dropping out every 9 minutes. I have an app on my smart phone showing in graph mode when it drops out and how long. January 3 I called AT&T and talked to several ladies in the Philippians. They said they would send me a new router/modem like I have. It is the 210. She said it would be delivered in 2 days. I waited 4 days and called them back. They said they didn't know what happened and said it would be re-sent and I should have it in 3-4 days. Six days went by and I hadn't received it. I called them back again and they told me there was a product back-order and that's why I didn't get it. They sent me up to the 2nd level of tech support. I actually talked to someone breathing "Texas" air. He was in Dallas Texas or near there. He said he was going to send me a 5268AC router/modem. The same kind as I had when I was on U verse. I hooked it up and it also dropped Wi-Fi every 9 minutes. Now my OOMA (Voice over Internet phone) was not working right. It would dial out one ring and go dead. When someone called me the people calling me said it would ring and ring but no one would answer. I took the OOMA device to my computer lab and hooked it up to my work network and had a little Radio Shack phone hooked to it. I got a dial tone and made a phone call. It worked. I told the party I was talking to to call me back and they said they would. No problem I received the call. Now I know my OOMA was working. Now I know it's AT&T problem. I had a Cisco modem/router so I decided to hook it to the AT&T modem/router and hook both network cables from the OOMA to the Cisco router. I set up the Cisco router as an access point. The OOMA now is working OK. I could make and receive phone calls just fine. I still had the WiFi drop out every 9 minutes. I called AT&T today and they sent me to the highest level tech support in San Antonio. I said I was a ham radio operator. The lady said that's your problem. I told her why is that and my old DSL 5268AC router/modem worked OK along with my OOMA. She wanted to know if my radio was plastic or metal case. I told her my $ 2,500 radio was a metal case and it was grounded with 2-8' copper ground rods. I did notice now I had been getting 120mbps up and download. Now I am getting 96mbps down and 60mbps upload but my OOMA was working. The lady in San Antonio said "I have been working here 10 years" and have seen it all. Really...... One person on RUclips said the changed the channel on the AT&T Modem Router from auto-channel search to channel 5. I tried that and still having WiFi cutting out every 9 minutes. When Technology works it works.... when it doesn't we have a Malox moment.
how did you changer the router?, I have fiber and from what i understood in order to use the fiber you must have the router it comes with to use the service
You have to use the modem piece, you can then use a ethernet cable to the router of your choice and use that for the wifi. You can turn off any one of these combos the Internet companies give you's wifi off.
So after connecting my router with Ethernet do I have to change setting on the old one to not interfere with the new one? Can I just Set up new one like regular
@@SteezoENT normally there's a way to turn off the wifi from the specific modem you have I'd Google the model number and turn off wifi to prevent interference
Hey Tommy really enjoy the content, quick question I just got the same internet but for some reason I can’t get my Linksys router to output the same download speed I would be getting directly hardwired to the modem any advice?
FYI: AT&T gigabit plans holds a 650mbps bidirectional guarantee. If you aren't seeing those against AT&T servers over hard wire, give them a call and they will (reluctantly) figure it out. I have gigabit in Austin, TX through them and consistently see 900/850 mbps against their servers.
The pace router is awful. I have ATT fixed wireless internet. I struggled to get my nighthawk router to connect as a gigabit port. The trick is set all of the port settings of the pace to router manually to 1 gigbit setting. You cannot change just one to manual, you have to set them all to manual, otherwise it wont recognize your router as a gigabit device.
I get speeds of 500M+ using the AT&T 5268AC (wireless) and 700M+ hard wired. Not even the AT&T techs with their hardware could show me they were bringing 1G to the house so I disputed their claims of 1GBps. I am a network tech by trade so I understand this. Made for some interesting conversations with AT&T then they finally owned up to it "We can't show you 1GBps and we're oversubscribed in your neighborhood". They always wanted to blame my hardware but I was LOL when their hardware got slower speeds than mine. We tested with the RG outside where they handed off the fiber so they couldn't blame my inside wiring.
Great vid! I’ve had Fiber for a year now and will be purchasing a new router after seeing your vid. I always wondered about AT&T routers and wether they are holding some of that fiber goodness back from consumers. 👍🏼
Without the ATT rg the service won't work. New router is a good idea but you must have the att gateway for the service to work. Just a heads up. Goodluck!
I get 160 download 60 up but many times its like 100/55. I have fiber AT&T 1000 fiber-this speed sucks. Installer says I get the best it can handle and AT&T has no better router. Test shows 800-to 900 + coming into house but not any more than 10 or 12% coming out of router into cat7 hard wire to computer
Hey, I got the AT&T router with the new fiber plan with 1000Mbps and its garbage. When i get a new router do i just unplug old from wall and connect the new one the same way they did the old one and that’s it?
I have AT&T fiber 300 and get 350Mb/s wirelessly to my IPhone X through a Belkin AC Dual Band Router(model- F9K1123)on average, you need an AC router capable of 1000Mb/s, and be careful of speed labeling on the router because when it says “AC1000 it is adding both bands together for that total(which is marketing BS)you should absolutely be getting 1000Mb/s, I’m also getting 370Mb/s upload, so that should be higher for you too I’m guessing, make sure that MacBook is connected to 5Ghz, it’s possible that the fiber line has too sharp of a bend in it which can cause a dB loss, or it could have been bent so far that a microscopic pit was introduced into the line, even if that isn’t the case you should have AT&T make it right!
I have been dealing with this problem for the last month! Thank you for making this video, do you think you could make a video on router settings and how to properly make your router a bridge. Ive gone to the url for my router settings and I really dont know what all to modify. Im new to router settings/tech in general and a video explaining how to get the most ourt of at&t fiber would be great:) Thanks for the great content though
+Parker Hudson Perry no prob! And yeah I may do a video on router optimization - but in this video my router is configured with default settings other than a new password.
I have, speeds are similar using google fiber speed test. The router is still working very well for me. AT&T service, however, isn't always the most reliable.
I don’t get fiber or cable internet. I have the atnt unlimited hotspot. But I live in a dead zone. So now I’m doing about 10 mbps sometimes. But I have to have a internet booster for an antenna. Any suggestions
It's been 3 years and the wired nighthawk *still* works better than a mesh system for me. It's also cheaper than building a commercial grade wireless mesh.
I have ATT and I paid for the 1000 speed which I never get, I still using the router they provided Pace 5268AC Gateway, do you think this router will be ok for a 3000 sq ft? I have two storage house and my wife's office is a spot where I can get a good wireless internet connection or i can buy the same router with more coverage? can you guide me ?
the first test was normal if you are on 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz is the only way to even get close, and if the laptop was on the 5Ghz for the second test, get a new USB dual band AC adapter, the speed you got is about max for a 5Ghz N wifi adapter that is built into your laptop
Can you show us how you configured your Netgear nighthawk with your ATT fiber? I recently got fiber and want to use my own nighthawk but can’t figure out how to get it compatible with the fiber? Would be greatly appreciated
Have you gotten more speed since then. I have the ubiquiti AMPLIFI HD and I am seeing 450mbs on my iPhone XS Max on the speed test with WiFi. I also have gigabit service from att. The only thing I’ve noticed though if I run the same test on 2 devices at the same time the speed is cut in half. So I’ll see around 200mbs per device. I’m wondering if I can run 2 WiFi routers at the same time.
It’s not that router. It’s either configuration issues or your network card on your laptop is not up to par. I consistently test 350-450mbps on my iPhone 8. On all of AT&t inverse CPE to include the BGW 210 and the 5258.
Did that today.. with my Asus gaming router.. Didn't make any difference.. Guess I'm just gonna have to call ATT.. my wife speeds and lan speeds are the same.. and can't get over 400mbps..meh. ATT Fiber speed is not stable at all... I keep running the test.. and I get 300 , 400 ,170..
I can pull just over 1000 up and down and I’m in Ohio. I use the att router and WiFi in my iPhone is on average 220 up and down. I did drop a Linksys WiFi router in bridge mode off the att modem/router combo to extend my range but I was pulling the same speeds with just the att modem/router combo. Came across your vid though because I’m trying to figure how to bump my WiFi speeds up even though they are already stupidly fast lol
hi Tommy love your videos. Quick question bud. I just got att fiber and I signed up for 300 mbps , I really don't need more . I do have steady signal over 150 and sometimes 200 up and around 130 to 150 down but my android box stopped playing the movies and won't download the direct 1080 links like when I had Comcast. I took it to my cousin house to check the box out with he's comcast connection and there it worked fine but it will not work with the fiber at my home. I have the box hard wired always. Any advice on this ? Thanks
I can recommend getting a Ubiquity UAP AC pro, just plug the in the Ethernet cable to your router, and install the access point anywhere you can run said Ethernet cable, this access point doesn't require a electrical wall wart cable at the location of the AP since power is injected over the Ethernet cable. moving your WiFi radio away from the router is always best practice.
The router issue is just that....an issue. AT&T provides the hardware, they should replace at no cost to the customer in order to obtain the speeds promised. I would opt for using my own router, but if someone doesn't want to, AT&T can and will replace devices for speed issues like that.
Actually WiFi speeds that low on the 1000 Mbps are caused by WiFi interference. So all he'd have to do is either place the router correctly and not surround it with metal objects or change the WiFi channel and he would get a lot more.
Hey Tommy. I am having an issue. I bought the same router you did but my wifi speed is only getting about 100-150 down and 100 up on 5ghz. My Ethernet speeds are 950 down and up each way. I was expected to get much greater wifi speeds. I installed the new netgear router in router mode, disabled all ATT wireless settings, also set my device with DMZ on the att router and unchecked security on att? So what am I missing? Did you install your in router mode, or bridge , or AP?
Do you have the BGW210 gateway Router/Modem combo? I have same internet same issue, and wondering if I purchase a better router if my wifi will be faster, but since I have a combo will it actually improve my wifi speed?
Misleading video, he connects his laptop to the 2.4ghz band on the att router and the 5ghz band on the netgear router. The att router might still be bad but this is definitely an unfair comparision.
@@TommyCallaway Then why is the speed so slow for the att router? My friend has the 300mbps plan and with the att router he's able to achieve symmetrical 300mbps through wifi. Considering the speed didn't exceed 50mbps, unless the att router was a dud, it's likely you just connected it to the 2.4ghz band. Or maybe att upgraded their router in recent years idk.
This video is 3 years old. I make camera and filmmaking gear reviews & tutorials now. If you're into that stuff, go check out my newer stuff. It's WAY better.
What router do you recommend now? Trying to decide between mesh and TP-link. Also, can I connect it to the modem and not use the AT &T router?
@@unjunglee1639 I'm still using the same netgear nighthawk X4S, haven't had any problems with it yet.

hi tommy
can i just plug a router to a bgw210 from att without additional configurations ?
because there are videos that you got to disable the wifi from the att modem?
Okay i laughed since i saw the ac router but makes sense now.

In order to get the fast wireless speeds from AT&T router make sure you desperate your network frequencies. Switch the network name for the 5ghz frequency to a different name and it will give you a faster overall speed. 2.4 frequency caps out at about 50 mbs.
I barely realized this today until my laptop got connected to my 2.4ghz and suddenly my speed dropped from 300-500mbps (5ghz) to 20-60mbps(2.4ghz).
I have a question did u connect the new router to the at&t router or did u get rid of the at&t router and connect the new router straight
joses glass engravings great question im wondering the same thing

Good to know
I am an ATT wire technician.
+Clifford Williams I was on the 5g network. Would be interested to know if they’d send me a better router. I’d happily try it.
Tommy Callaway dont buy that bs. I bought the orbi router and i turned off the 2.4 ghz signal and im getting almost 300 mbps minimum. Which is bullshit on att’s part giving us a shitty router

why is your internet so bad i want to leave so bad but i have a contract
I got the att router/modem for my fiber. 969mbps hardwired. 338mbps on wifi. Not too shabby. I don’t think I have enough wireless devices to use up all the 338mbps.
So I’m having the same problem do I need to to keep the AT&T modem and the new modem plugged in together
STRAIGHTBEAST109 yeah it’s slower on consoles
glyotic yea I figured that plus my PS4 sounds like it’s about to take off lol
STRAIGHTBEAST109 lol
Have you considered that wifi cards in laptops have their limits?
Holy smokes!! Man, am I glad I stumbled onto your video. This is GREAT info. Headed to Amazon now to look at this particular model. I'm in San Antonio, so I'm still trying to decide between AT&T, Google or Grande fiber. Just doing some pre-purchase research. This vid was very educational and informative. Thanks again, sir!!
i have 1000 mbps wifi but only get 25 - 30 mbps
Me too
I had ATT fiber installed Saturday (August 28, 2021.
How did you setup / connect the second router.
If I had that internet speed I would finish my package in 5 seconds 😂🔫
Can you post a video on how to connect your own router to the att modem/gateway? I have my own apple wireless router and have no clue on how to connect it. Thanks!
How are you bridging the two routers?
Band steering has become better with time top speed seen from one of AT&T product wirelessly was around 500mbps but need an adapt dual band ac to achieve those speeds.
thx
No prob bro
Can you please make a video explaining how to hook up the router
Do you have a video on how you actually set the new router up and what settings you had to change on the ATT gateway to make it work correctly?
Prizoneroffaith Ephesians 3:1 look at the specs of the gateway att provides all of them are trash and can barley run any signal most modern standalone routers and support a whole house now
Me paying like $50 per month and only getting 1 mbps I literally can’t get over 2 mbps
Did you use IP passthrough, bridge, or just direct ethernet connect?
Had the same question!
Pass through
Because you need to get a 2.5gig nic card because the gigabit ethernet port on older motherboard limits the speeds at like 900mbps
Did you connect your router directly to the box on your wall. Or did you connect it to a modem?
Watching this in 240p 3 bars and it's buffering. 😂
Most likely you have the older ATT router (nvg589 with 2.4ghz antenna) the new Att routers 5268 and 210 are in the 300/400mb range . Those have both 2.4 and 5ghz antenna.
I just got it 4 days ago. He installed it but didn’t replace the router. Only getting between 40-60...
Who watches this video with trash wifi
Iv only dreamt of that speed.. 😂 lol
Its 90$ a month
Rakan Altamimi i have this internet but I only get like 300mps because we have the ATT router
@Molly Schultz same
@@car4754 I pay 20$ a month and get 1000 mbps

Why does att have modems with built-in routers? I just got att fiber 1000 and I can't get it to work with a router.
did you ever get it to work?
I have fiber and a Netgear router, which made a big difference for wifi. But, I'm wondering if Tommy has two physical lines and, if so, how.
Hey Tommy,
I just recently got Fiber.
I would be afraid to change out the modem as it would probably send a red flag to AT&T and they would cause me grief!
how did they let you? they have their own gateway!.
Att tech
jeremy Cabrera hey man I have a nighthawk router can I just plug that into the att fiber box in the wall?
so, I have the upright black box from ATT that has all the plugs on the back. 2 computers are hard-wired into the box, the land-line (for the old folks in the house) and a line to the security system. Is that the Router? or is there another peripheral we are talking about?
_I wish RUclips allowed posting pics_ LOL
I have AT&T also, I only get 13 mbps download and 1.4 mbps upload. Its HORRIBLE
i get like 1 mbps for both
I was on an AT&T 100/20 mbp plan but then they installed AT&T fiber on our street, and I am currently using that.
That's crazy fast. I have uverse 450 but no fiber. I'm in an old neighborhood. It's fast enough where I don't really notice lag or anything but the signal doesn't go very far.
With att 1000 I only get about 275up 200 down is that good???
well since you have atnt 1000 no its terrible but its better than the US average which is like 50/50 new netgear router and CAT7 ethernet cables will help do not use CAT5/CAT6 since CAT7s are newer and just better in general
What headphones do you use
How did you hook it up. Did you run off the box they gave you or just hook the cable up?
how did you changer the router?, I have fiber and from what i understood in order to use the fiber you must have the router it comes with to use the service
Same problem but with a nighthawk x10. Im getting arround 400mbps. I have the att router on passthrough mode into my nighthawk
AT&T will not let you get service without their modem $10/month. Are you still paying rent on yours?
FYI: AT&T gigabit plans holds a 650mbps bidirectional guarantee. If you aren't seeing those against AT&T servers over hard wire, give them a call and they will (reluctantly) figure it out. I have gigabit in Austin, TX through them and consistently see 900/850 mbps against their servers.
Mike so ur getting what speed over wifi?
Give me 10 min I will dawnload all games in ps4😂
Haha
Optx_Spirit 😂😂
PS4 limits to 300... Still ok. lol. I get over 500 on my Xbox.
lol😂😂😂😂
@@ydel3522 I've gotten 700 on my PS4
Id assume you had a 589 or a 599 and connected to 2.4ghz. I get about 300 down and 409 up on my bgw210 provided by AT&T
Same, I disabled the 2.4ghz & everything runs at 250 to 300 off the 5ghz. Or you can separate them with different names to make sure your on the 5ghz.
@@globalvision9036 how would you go about disabling the 2.4ghz
I get 30 down and about 10 up, I have a plan with Sky, do you recon a new router would allow faster speeds?
Hey which router did you have before? Ours was the BGW210.
what router should i get i want to get rid of att router what should i get how to set it up /
32 Mbps upload speed? Mine is 8...
I have AT&T fiber 300 and get 350Mb/s wirelessly to my IPhone X through a Belkin AC Dual Band Router(model- F9K1123)on average, you need an AC router capable of 1000Mb/s, and be careful of speed labeling on the router because when it says “AC1000 it is adding both bands together for that total(which is marketing BS)you should absolutely be getting 1000Mb/s, I’m also getting 370Mb/s upload, so that should be higher for you too I’m guessing, make sure that MacBook is connected to 5Ghz, it’s possible that the fiber line has too sharp of a bend in it which can cause a dB loss, or it could have been bent so far that a microscopic pit was introduced into the line, even if that isn’t the case you should have AT&T make it right!
hey bro, you should look at us and not yourself when your filming. also, are you testing the att router on the 2.4ghz band or the 5ghz band?
Totally agree. Always trying to get better. My more recent videos look less bad. :) Also, I was testing the 5ghz.
Did you connect the router directly to the modem without changing anything or did you have to modify anything?
I have been dealing with this problem for the last month! Thank you for making this video, do you think you could make a video on router settings and how to properly make your router a bridge. Ive gone to the url for my router settings and I really dont know what all to modify. Im new to router settings/tech in general and a video explaining how to get the most ourt of at&t fiber would be great:) Thanks for the great content though
+Parker Hudson Perry no prob! And yeah I may do a video on router optimization - but in this video my router is configured with default settings other than a new password.

So it is now 2019, what do you think? How are speeds. Use another speed test company that is not AT&T and see what you get?
I have, speeds are similar using google fiber speed test. The router is still working very well for me. AT&T service, however, isn't always the most reliable.
My AT&T modem router whatever is getting 6-12 MBPS and 0.40 upload how can I make it go up?
Why is it only around 200 Mbps on WiFi when your router is very close to the laptop?
I just also got the AT&T Fiber 1000, will the Google Router the 3 pack works for 1000mbps and extend my wifi connection throughout the house? Thanks
Michael Nguyen wondering this as well... also wondering how you would set this up.
Michael Nguyen what are ur speeds now
I don’t get fiber or cable internet. I have the atnt unlimited hotspot. But I live in a dead zone. So now I’m doing about 10 mbps sometimes. But I have to have a internet booster for an antenna. Any suggestions
Is there a reason why you don't use a mesh router system rather than the Nighthawk??
It's been 3 years and the wired nighthawk *still* works better than a mesh system for me. It's also cheaper than building a commercial grade wireless mesh.
@@TommyCallaway Thanks.
Would this work if you have regular internet ?
I have ATT and I paid for the 1000 speed which I never get, I still using the router they provided Pace 5268AC Gateway, do you think this router will be ok for a 3000 sq ft? I have two storage house and my wife's office is a spot where I can get a good wireless internet connection or i can buy the same router with more coverage? can you guide me ?
Subscribed and liked. Thank Chief, you taught a old dog a new trick but I kind of suspected this.
the first test was normal if you are on 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz is the only way to even get close, and if the laptop was on the 5Ghz for the second test, get a new USB dual band AC adapter, the speed you got is about max for a 5Ghz N wifi adapter that is built into your laptop
I’m here because I’m in the same boat. 1000, but about 40 on their WiFi. I’m looking into a router now.
Can you show us how you configured your Netgear nighthawk with your ATT fiber? I recently got fiber and want to use my own nighthawk but can’t figure out how to get it compatible with the fiber? Would be greatly appreciated
What AC model is you Netgear router?
What about Hughes Net? Their Wi-Fi lags so much even though they claim there isn't any hard data limits....
Show me how you connected the router... did you connect the line from the wall to your NEW router? or Did you add your router to the att one..Thnx
+JONNY JO connected the new router directly to the old one.
:( too bad google fiber isn't in the area.
I don't think google fiber would be any better.. I think fiber is overrated..
Two questions, what kind of video camera are you recording with and where you get the Matrix screen saver?
This vid was recorded with a GH5 and the matrix screen saver was from uselesscreations.com for like $5
hi Tommy love your videos. Thanks
They say UP TO 300MBPS..that's where they get you
I can recommend getting a Ubiquity UAP AC pro, just plug the in the Ethernet cable to your router, and install the access point anywhere you can run said Ethernet cable, this access point doesn't require a electrical wall wart cable at the location of the AP since power is injected over the Ethernet cable. moving your WiFi radio away from the router is always best practice.
+Steven Edwards just a router and I left my att stuff alone.
The att router might still be bad but this is definitely an unfair comparision.
wrong
@@TommyCallaway Then why is the speed so slow for the att router? My friend has the 300mbps plan and with the att router he's able to achieve symmetrical 300mbps through wifi. Considering the speed didn't exceed 50mbps, unless the att router was a dud, it's likely you just connected it to the 2.4ghz band. Or maybe att upgraded their router in recent years idk.
@@SteveSunny Probably upgraded. This video is 3 years old now!
The problem is you are still limited to 2000 NAT connections. The only way around this is to completely bypass the gateway.
