I am 90% certain the creative team didn't really want to cut the flashbacks (which would have helped the overall feel and look of the movie a lot I think), but, as happens much too often, random test audiences probably got bored with them and wanted to see more of donkey
I'm looking forward to the movie that will be coming out soon showing us the story of Constance, I can't wait to see you cover it!

It would be a interesting twist of Constance was the main antagonist and had Jane Eyre complex.
There is a script I've heard of, by the writers of Hocus Pocus, that was dropped, after Hocus Pocus did poorly at the box office. I'd like to know more about that.
Thank you for making this video. While I agree it's not a perfect adaptation of the ride, I do still have a soft spot for it. I started reading the script yesterday when my parents and I were watching this movie because we're going to be seeing the new movie that's out now. I haven't finished the script yet, but so far from what I've read and what you said in this video, it does seem like the movie did a better job fixing it by making Jim less of a jerk. Having him being late for his and Sara's anniversary instead of forgetting Michael's birthday was better. And I'm surprised that the caretaker doesn't appear again since you said that in this video. And while I knew some of the background of the characters like with Gracey and Elizabeth, I didn't know about how Gracey was looking up sorcery stuff to bring her back to life. I did see that clip of Gracey going through a bunch of books, but I never knew what it was he was reading. It makes so much sense why a curse was put on the mansion. Also, there was another book that discussed Ramsley's backstory of when he met Gracey's father and having it tie to his motivation on killing Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is essentially a MacGuffin, in the lingo of Hitchcock: a plot device around which the story evolves that isn’t significant in and of itself, that’s why she’s not a fleshed it, so to speak, character.

I am one who hated the movie. The entire story was wrong. It should have told the story of the original owners. The visitors were only there to move the story along. Trying to force a woman to leave her family?? No, never! And the inclusion of Eddie Murphy was just wrong casting. The movie should have been played straight, with moments of comic relief. Murphy tried too hard to make it slapstick. We were promised a story worthy of the Mansion. They didn't deliver.
