- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is updating its vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention test to address crashes that occur at higher speeds and those involving motorcycles or large trucks. This update comes as only one of the first 10 small SUVs evaluated earns a good rating. IIHS President David Harkey emphasizes the importance of this update, noting the prevalence of automatic emergency braking in new vehicles and its significant role in preventing front-to-rear crashes.
The Subaru Forester emerges as the sole small SUV to earn a good rating in the updated test, showcasing exceptional performance across various speeds and scenarios. Both the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 receive acceptable ratings, with the CR-V showing some inconsistencies in higher-speed trials involving motorcycle targets. Meanwhile, vehicles like the Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Compass achieve marginal ratings, indicating room for improvement.
However, the Chevrolet Equinox, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Volkswagen Taos all receive poor ratings, demonstrating significant shortcomings in front crash prevention. These vehicles fail to provide adequate warnings or reduce speed effectively in multiple test scenarios, highlighting the need for substantial enhancements in their safety technology.
These results are valid only for models sold in the USA

Be careful out there if you ride a motorcycle
Subaru Outback owner here. Eyesight is very good.
I think motorcycles need that system, crashes mostly occurred as motorcycle kicking the car’s behind :)
Subaru and Honda have better camera performance and detection algorithms.
Too bad they are boring to drive.
@@porkchopsandwiches192 they are not boring to drive. Have you ever had one ride with them?
@@user-yy8he6eo4b Subarus cvt is hilariously bad and Hondas engines are gutless. Reliable? Yes. Fun to drive? Absolutely not. I’d throw Toyota in that group too. About as exciting as vanilla.
@@porkchopsandwiches192 true but in the current state of the world rn, eh... might be a consideration in the long run
@@porkchopsandwiches192 just unnecessary comments without certainty. Frustration is great.
You should test the Tesla Model Y
test kia/hyundais!
Technology that has contributed to the astronomical jump in car prices yet failed the tests.
Thank you youcar for testing these systems for a better buying decision and revealing the scam.
These systems are not designed to accomplish the same things. Some are crash prevention systems, others are crash avoidance systems, others are to reduce the risk of a crash and/or speed of impact. Some aren’t designed to prevent the crash but to alert you that there’s a crash to aid in your attempt to avoid. There are so many variables here, too many to call it a scam. However, I will admit the VW and Mazda were useless and would be the only exception.
Honestly it’s all what I expected. Brands with general poor reputations have bad systems, and brands that have faux luxury are also mediocre.
Subaru is the best for safety.
Apostaría que el chino Haval lo hace mejor que Mazda, Mitsubishi o VW

Subaru and Honda are the best.😊
The fact that we need these systems in our vehicles just shows how unskilled a lot of drivers are.
I was recently driving a 2022 Ford Bronco with adaptive cruise control and it randomly slammed on its brakes on the interstate at 75 mph almost causing a pileup behind me for no reason. There was nothing in front of me. I know this test is for forward collision warning or whatever but still. I don’t trust any of these systems.
