Yeah I feel like a lot of Truckers say we don’t get respect on the road but I feel for the most part people give you space to get in .. I drove in L.A. traffic and as soon as people see the lights when I wanted to switch lanes they’d let me in .. other truckers are pretty respectful on the road too .. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I feel like when people have 1 horrible experience on the road they base their opinions on that single experience and not look at the overall situation 😂

The knock and check on trucks story...
I'm law enforcement and one summer I come on duty and get asked to do a welfare check on a truck tractor.
He was parked on the shoulder one mile after a rest area. There was a previous welfare check on the same truck almost twelve hours prior when it was at the rest area.
I get to the truck and no answer. It's running too. I try the drivers door and it's locked. Try the passenger door and it opens. I call out and get no answer.
Climb up into the truck and the heater is on full blast. In 100 degree summer heat.
I find an older trucker in his sleeper. He can't talk and can't move. His little dog was next to him and it died from the heat.
Immediately got EMS to respond and it was so hard to get him out of there. They did a great job.
Saved that truckers life because someone paid attention and asked us to check on him.

My dad was a truck driver all his life until he passed away in 1996 from cancer. When I was a teenager I went on the road with him couple times so I remember what can and can't do that well.
So when I'm driving at night and a semi passes me I will flash my head lights letting them know it's clear to change lanes. Just like how some semi drivers will do it for other semi drivers. Even though I'm just in a car they do flash their trailer lights back saying thanks.
I used to have a old 70's CB Base Station with a old antenna my grandpa gave me. Using that CB Base Station setup I could talk to people up to 20 miles away. Which was perfect for talking to truckers that was driving on the interstate which was around 12 miles away.

I love the rest area talk. Its so relatable. I guess another way to view why those geico sponsored agents check on you may be due them not wanting to wait to circle back and just move on to check the rest of the road. Unlike troopers who dont even bother knocking and leave a nice little paper on your window or mirror.
On sharp turns, try going slower, the wheel turns faster. In that scenario, I would stop let go of brake stop let go of break all while turning. It just depends how close or past the line 4 wheelers are and what im hauling. Not saying you dont know that, sometimes we forget stuff when were not focused. Again, not saying you werent focused on driving just because a camera was on your head or you were talking to it. Havent seen one of your videos since you quit CFI. Hope all is good.

If backing with the tandems back is hard for you, you either have to pracise more doing it, or you have to back up with them forward, then slide them and finish the docking. Not much else to do about it for now. I wish someone would make a good backup system for big trucks that had camera feeds all over, so the computer could give the turn radius and all that, and dock softly at the exact spot every time.

It's a challenge but you can do it. I was a CDL instructor and taught a lot of drivers with no experience. If you already know the basics of handling a truck you have an advantage. Since you haven't driven OTR before you will have to go through a school but there are a lot of companies that will pay for your school and then you have to work for them for a set amount of time. It's a good trade off because the schools are expensive. Pick a company that fits you the best and go for it.

@@johnmilligan2964 Currently 20yrs old, planning to go to CDL school but Can't do regional b/c under 21. And most local jobs either prefer OTR experience or flatout require you to be 21 anyway unfortunately. So far only job I meet the minimum requirements for is a local government job for a nearby county. Pay is (relatively) low but hoping I can get that job cus if not, I'll have to essentially wait until im 21. And by the time im 21 it will have been like 7 months since driving a truck and im worried companies will see that and pick someone else b/c of it.

For some reason I like your videos, I just don't know why. Maybe because you are always upbeat, even when complaining. But most of it is just you saying not much at all, expressing every thought just to fill space to make a 30 minute video. I wish you'd become a flatbedder, just to have more interesting content. But if it works for you to make money, I guess you're onto something.
