Outlast: Whistleblower (also known as Outlast: Story DLC) is a psychological horror video game DLC (Downloadable content) for Outlast, developed and published by Red Barrels Games. It is the prequel to Outlast, revealing the reasons of the Mount Massive Asylum outbreak. It also shows the true ending to the asylum after Miles' (implied) death. It was released for PlayStation 4 and PC.
Whistleblower will let you play as Waylon Park, a software engineer under contract with Murkoff and the man who emailed journalists around the world - including Miles - at the beginning of Outlast. Spending a couple of weeks at Mount Massive, during which he was unable to even talk to his wife and son in Boulder thanks to strict security protocols, Waylon developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients. Identifying with those poor souls fueled Waylon's anger, and set the stage for his unmasking of Mount Massive's rotten core.
Although Whistleblower tells the story that led to Outlast, it actually stretches past the events of the first game to show the final chapter in Mount Massive Asylum's story.

I lasted about 30 minutes on this DLC before I had to quit. I think I aged 20 years with the stress. I did manage to complete the main outlast game but looking back, I don't know how. Scariest game I've ever played. I think I'll just watch someone else do it.

+Michelle Davies I just love seeing the Outlast story over and over. It's like one of the best things ever and yeah the different reactions. I mean it's like this one film you never get tired of watching.
I just realized something! In the beginning they said Gluskin's out of his cell, and the guy that wants to turn you into a women is Eddie Gluskin! He was almost going to become Walrider but is face (seen later on) was disfigured. His mind couldn't handle the engine, his mind could've also been damaged and cost his to develop multiple personality discorder.
Oh yeah I just noticed that too! That's crazy that that all ties in later onto the game but you have to really play thought more than once to notice that. Thanks.

It is a prequel due to the fact that it starts off hours before the events of the original outlast, it just branches off into the timeline of the original outlast and past the events of the original outlast.
You see in the first few minutes,He or mr. Park is sending a email through the internet. Though in my mind. Miles saw that email, then go through the mansion,to check it out what there.

I'm going to plug myself a little here, if you don't care for that stuff, just pass this up. I was pretty inspired by Brad to make my own let's play of the Whistleblower expansion. It should be coming out in a week or two, if anyone's interested in seeing this from another persons point of view.

Great gameplay. I never heard of this game until today. I'm glad you mentioned Condemned. I still think Condemned is one of the creepiest games ever. Especially walking through the abandoned mall and venturing down the escalator in the dark...meanwhile hearing sounds below... I almost couldn't go through with it. Also, Manhunt. The last mission fighting Pigsy... Getting chills thinking about him walking down the hall with his chainsaw running.
This picture alone creeps me out. I don't get it.
It's a twisted nightmarish game. It's not for the faint of heart.

Mini review: (NO SPOILERS HERE) Just finished playing the DLC! Wayyyy more than I expected. A lot of variety and a lot of both fresh and familiar faces. Still some questions by the ending but for the most part, I feel Red Barrels fleshed out the story in a unique way from Waylon Park's perspective. New soundtracks, enemies, and environments were well worth the wait for this one! FOUR HOURS of scary but fun hell!

If I've learned anything from first person style games, it's that NPCs don't always know the right direction to go. They will sometimes run right into traps and and enemy gun fire.

The original Outlast was the first video of yours that I watched because I was too afraid to play it myself haha the things you say in your videos makes me laugh so much and makes the game less scary. What you guys are demonstrating is a part of the horror genre Stephen King said a few words about:
"Imagine if you have a monster behind a door. If your character opens that door and a ten foot monster is standing there, the reader will sigh in relief and say 'at least it wasn't a HUNDRED foot monster'. Replace that ten foot monster with a hundred foot monster, and the reader will say 'at least it wasn't a THOUSAND foot monster'. The best thing to do is to never open that door, because nothing is scarier than human imagination".
In other words, the Walrider is heavily built up through the course of the game; so much so that once he actually appears, it does not MATTER what form he takes. He will never be scary enough for you. You're still opening that door and taking away the imagination.They could have done literally anything with him and you would have responded with "they should have made him scarier".
