My philosophy is FOOD is MEDICINE.
There is a saying, "You are what your food eats"
So, grass fed beef. Free range chickens, etc.
Great Video! Love that someone suggested this.

another very helpful video! thanks Marisa. Your channel is the most useful + exciting in my life right now! It’s hard to find people with the same food priorities.

I remember reading some articles once that said fifty years ago the average family spent about 40% of their income on food and that today the average family only spends something like 8% of their income on food. I think that shows how little current generations value quality food and what priority it is in their lives.

I spend $1000+ a month for 3 adults. We eat organic as much as possible, mostly fruits and vegetables plus grass fed meats & organic free range eggs. I cook from scratch. I would rather cut back on other categories and have a healthy diet.

Absolutely!! That's one thing I forgot to mention - we do say no to some things so we can afford healthy food :)

Totally agree with your philosophy! We live in California and spend at least $1,000 a month on food for our family of 3. We do buy some convenience health food but overall we are buying real food. I think it is worth it!!

Your food budget of around 1000$ for a family of five is actually pretty good for this type of eating - without children we are on 2/3 of that already!
Maybe raising chickens helps a little. 🙂
Keep up the good work - greetings from Montenegro! 🙌

Thank you so much! That's true, I thought of that later - the meat chickens we raise are sort of their own separate budget category, so it would be higher if we were buying them :)

I actually think $1000 a month for five people on real food is quite an accomplishment! We live in Europe and we spend the same amount for two adults on an animal based diet. Real food costs money, crappy food is cheap... The thing is, at the beginning of the 20th century, families would spend half their income on food! Who does that now? We buy so many other things we’re being told we need, that we don’t realise what the true cost of food is and just how much it is worth!

How the heck do you only spend 1k? My family of 4 eats a gaps carnivore diet and we’re lucky to only spend 3400! 😮

Dang, I easily spend 700 a month just for me and my toddler in California. It is $17 for a gallon of raw milk.

@@juanjulio4046 we eat for pleasure in the west .. thats a real drain on human energy,
especially raw cold food. However, there are ways of dramatically reducing your budget and increasing your families nutrition intake but that's a path you must find. GL
      its all on this YT.
