I think background music could work, but it would have to be either something that fades into the background - such as something with a simple beat/rhythm - or something thematically appropriate (some kind of dark ambient fantasy music). Alternatively, I think your voice/commentary is good on its own if you don't want to add anything.

This reminds me of when I pissed of a bunch of D&D nerds by pointing out how, with amount of institutional magic in the setting, there should have been an industrial revolution long ago. Could not get them to understand that "science" isn't some counterpart to magic, it is a process of study. And if magic exists in a setting it can be studied scientifically. And once studied and understood, applied. And applied magic, is technology. (the "seeing stone" equivalent I'm typing this on runs on tamed lightening, how is that not magic.)

If I may be pedantic, there is one thing I noticed: the ogival rondel covering the right shoulder looks a bit out of place because it would mess with the soldier shouldering the musket, complicating recoil management and aim. It looks like the first thing the soldier would remove themselves. Alternatively, if the musket had a handgonne-styled stock that goes over the shoulder it would circumvent the problem.

Just a couple minor things. If you check WWII uniform setups, they always kept their gas mask in a canister or bag. This is because you don't want to drag it through the mud you're crawling in, then strap it to your face. The other thing is the thigh plates. Either they should be a bit loose and hang to the side, or they should hang in front and hinge the same direction your thigh does when you walk or run. In between they would resist normal leg movement and flap out to the side constantly. Hanging in front makes more sense if they are armor, hanging to the side makes more sense if they're storage.

A comment about the armor lore: first thing is that the soldiers getting refurbished uniforms fits nicely with the used uniforms you're likely to get in reality, although in an industrial society refurbishing uniforms carries much less value.
The second and more important point I have is about how the soldiers sometimes trade their uniforms, which doesn't really happen in real units. Gifting is much more prevelant, often times quite ceremoniously from the seniors to the juniors, and with seremonies differing from Corp, battalion, platoon etc. Your platoon is your family. You don't really do things foroyher people because of what you're gonna get in return, you do them because you go through so much shit with those people you're all bonded together.

  • @itzaleaf405
    @itzaleaf405 Год назад

Another part of showing the face (imo) is since they're using firearms they would still need to be able to aim... so the old version's *massive* pointed faceplate would make it either near or straight impossible to actually properly aim in a way which would be even *remotely* comfortable or natural for a soldier.
Which is a huge detail in designing equipment (in my opinion again), "Ergonomics" aka how comfortable and/or the equipment would be to use. Though looking at the design it looks fantastic to say the least! The only small possible thing would be the lack of gloves or hand protection, however due to them using flintlock firearms from the looks of it it's also understandable since reloading with gloves is *pain* when you have to do very precise things along with the gloves often getting caught on things.

In worldbuilding i like to focus on the material side of the society, more specifically their technology and economy in addition to societal structure.
For example i made a group of ratfolk called the skaliari (genetically engineered rat people) who are at a level of technology like that of 1870s-1900s europe, lots of steam, steel, primitive electricity, and heavy industry with almost all goods tranport being a mix of railed vehicles like urban freight trams or by bicycles using trailers.
Like rats, they're society is incredibly collectivist and social, most food is eaten in massive mess halls, sleeping quarters are cozy and dense, and the stories-tall factories are teeming with workers.

heres an idea thatll require you to triple the amount of designs, if youre unhappy with the mix of age of glory and the world war. remember that the technology of all the nations changed a LOT during the war, leave the early designs more decorative and colourful and the switch out the fancy coats and decorative hats for helmets, more protective clothing and more flexible pants. dont forget the officers and all the design choices that make them stand out to both the viewer and enemy sharpshooters

Also, unless the muskets are designed to suit left-handedness in this world - the religious icon plate is on the wrong side, this positioning would make it difficult to shoulder the musket... unless it also has a utilitarian purpose as a shoulder rest/pad for a calibre that might be higher than what was tradionally used with muskets, in which case you would want it higher, more squared (likely smaller so as not to inhibit shoulder flexing and arm adduction motions) and curved inwards (concave) so as to have the butt of the weapon sit squarely in the shoulder without sliding around.

    Awesome work!
I was thinking an interesting feature to their armour would be having a small cut-out section on the right side instead of the rondel armpit armour bit/shield so they could shoulder their rifles better. Similar to ww2 russian sapper chest plates
Also I dont mind the alck of music I like the commentary in the background giving more insight into the process!

Unless that breastplate is easily removable I'd put the trench coat over it. Adding buckles, snaps, or other mount points for the coat to attach to. For a more knightly feel you might consider changing the boots to a more sabaton look, and adding some armored bracers over the long sleeves.
Your work is amazing, and I am enjoying your world building very much.

This stuff is so awesome man, I cant wait to see more of this world. I always love technology and magic being fused in interesting ways.
Im somewhat curious about how the process of industrialization occured for this country Ram. You said before the war the equipment was made more artisinally, each piece unique. Wheras since beginning of the war clearly a large degree of industrialization must have occurred for them to have relatively modern (late 19th/ early 20th century) mass production methods in order to sustain the attrition of trench fighting. A lot of not just technology, but industrial expertise is required for this kind of stuff, and im thinking theres a lot of interesting ways magic could be involved in this apparent industrial revolution. A lot of potentially interesting things could go on there if done correctly. As an engineer I always am disappointed when people gloss over the details and implications this sort industrialization has on a world. Too often have i seen more modern tech mashed with a fantasy world poorly. But you seem to be on a fairly good track so far. Cant wait to see more.

As viewers we are getting to know you, and those that stick around do so because they like you. So if you feel like no music that's okay, but if you do feel like adding music make sure it's music you like listening to. In your case this could be what you like to listen to when creating, or it could be what you imagine fits well in the world you are building. In any case, it's probably worth paying one of those music licencing services like epidemic sounds and the likes to start experimenting without having to worry about copyright. That's my view on this, hope it's helpful! :)

The only type of music I could possibly think might fit in the background is old dungeon/fantasy synth, but it might not be weird enough for your setting. Keep up the good work!
