Dave Castro introduces workout: 21:26 Workout/exercises are explained: 23:21 Workout begins: 33:51 The Cooldown show (interview with the athletes): 57:56
Sara Sigmundsdóttir's tape line for the handstand push-ups were a tad bit too tall. I'm surprised she finished as quickly as she did extending that far.
People hated this workout, but deadlifts are actually my best movement and I got the set of 55 done in less than 90 seconds. Then again the weight was only 95lb. Oh scaled teens division
+Casey Denman You set the damper to whatever you want. The damper isn't a difficulty setting. It's more like the gears on a bike. Sure a low gear is easy to peddle, but it's also hard to go fast. Likewise a high gear is great for downhill, but it may be too difficult on level ground. The goal is to find the setting that you are most efficient at.
+A. J. Giurato Thanks for the response. I understand the settings as use rowers a lot, I just wondered why there's not a set standard in the Games or any events that people have to stick to when everything else is so regimented.
+Casey Denman It could be, but there isn't a need. Also, setting 10 on one rower could be different than setting 10 on another. They would need to compare the drag factor via the software to get a better indication. Even at Crash-B's you are free to choose any damper setting you want. Rowers may be told to user a specific drag factor by their coaches to emulate they type of shell they will be racing in. But other than that, it really is W = F x d. You can't cheat the rower. The best you can do is pick which setting is ideal for you. So if it is good enough for Crash-B's and Olympians, CrossFit can be confident that there isn't a need to regulate it.
+AMD94 it means you have to chip away at it. Usually a really hard movement for a lot of reps that you can't complete all at once without pausing to rest at some point in the movement.
I'm so glad SARA won, I'm cheering her on 100% of the way. Katrin is cool and all, but I see Sara working her ass off and she seems like a regular woman who loves to eat and compete lol.
+jenn mendoza I follow both of them but you said Sara works her ass off... well... so does katrin. I like both as well, but this is just the open. the 2015 champ is katrin and even tho Sara was in the lead the whole competition she ended up losing so numbers don't mean anything right now.
+joel3valles any athlete can be beaten it's all a matter of luck and the pressure an athlete endures. They have the same numbers which means it's all but a chance of luck. I think you might be rooting for Katrin because she won last year 😭😭😭.. That's not the way it works. We'll see who wins this year 😁
+jenn mendoza nah I'm not rooting for anyone actually, it's just that it sounded like you put Sara on top of everyone. I'm not saying you're wrong tho because she is really good but all athletes are really good depending on what they're better at
I love Rich and I think he is a fantastic athlete, though I wouldn't say he is a rounded athlete, if so, then he should simply excel at every task he is giving and winning games doesn't mean he's round, the man wins having the most points and that's only. In most games we see rich excels in some workouts and sucks at some, those that he sucks at other crossfit athletes are fantastic at, such as weightlifting and long distant runner in which btw rich admitted he sucks at and hate doing ( the long running ) ( check his late documentary ). Anyway I wish to be like Rich regardless lol
+khalid sab Dude is top 3 in all Olympic lifting events for the past 4 years. 1 rep snatch, clean, overhead squat etc. He is below average at running and WAS below average at swimming and rope climbs but now is above. He is the most well rounded competitor PERIOD
Just when i thought doing deadlift as fast as you can is a really bad fucking idea. they have a line on hand stand push ups that they can hardly reach lmao.
okay, why is there a national hymn? I thought this is a sport for everyone? I have nothing against America but this is exactly why I like crossfit, because it's not about the country and especially it's for everyone. you don't need to honer soldiers with a national hymn that passed away. why don't you honer electricians or carpenters or any any other professions with a national hymn? this is what I never liked about national events, people going to a sport event wearing the country flag around their shoulder while being introduced with a national hymn. is that next? because I like to go to competitions to test my own abilities, so when I win or lose, it's me that gets the credit not the country. very sad and disappointing attitude. is that what Crossfit is turning into?
They were on a military base. I'd say that's pretty appropriate there. Also carpenters don't volunteer to put their life on the line for their country. Regardless of what you think of the military, that is the difference.
+felixhulkb carpenters can fall from the roof while fixing some bodies home. electricians can get shocked while fixing your stove, etc. it's no more appropriate then doing it for any or in any other person venue/facility/home.

300 thousand people live in Iceland. 300 million in America. These 2 girls and Annie are up there! It's amazing!
For those wondering. the base is at about 6300 feet (1920 meters), oxygen content in air at this altitude is about 16.4 % (its 20.9 % at sealevel).
I reckon next week will include at least one of these: C&J, box jumps, front squats, thrusters, overhead squats
I really need to move to iceland
20:58 is he intro for the workout
Thanks!
Legend
+Mia ZZZ
haha thanks guys, just saw others do that on the other open workout videos and though i might as well since no one else had done it haha
Goodness! I'm sooo impressed! My definate inspiration.....
Thankful for the Country God has blessed greatly! Thank you for doing the National Anthem.
+Kirk Meyers Is this not a world wide sport? why just the American anthem?
Sara Sigmundsdóttir's tape line for the handstand push-ups were a tad bit too tall. I'm surprised she finished as quickly as she did extending that far.
WOW!!!! Awesome competition!
This was my first ever open. I scaled it. ripped through the deadlifts and then suffered cuz I hate wall balls
I'm glad Sara got her win after CF 15!
I would also catch the wall ball lower to not waste energy from the negative portion of the movement.
22:00 LOL her reaction will be the latest meme for any crossfit WOD now!
Also all these guys treat Castro like hes a friggin god....enough he's an ego maniac
People hated this workout, but deadlifts are actually my best movement and I got the set of 55 done in less than 90 seconds. Then again the weight was only 95lb. Oh scaled teens division
que paso el crossfit se va quedando sin presupuesto para hacer sus campeonatos?
I'll be there!
I would drop the bar at the top of every deadlift rep to conserve energy and slow and steady wins this race.
very true
You would lose your grip.
DAVIDSDOTTIR all day!!!! both are freaking epic though!
They should have done this in Coronado.
16.5 is going to be 15.5 with a 1rm after it. wear yourself out, drop about 75-80% of your actual max on your head. just like the 2015 games.
I like that shirt Dave, where can I get one at??
So how far is the "Engine" going to get into the wall balls. The way she did those Air Squat'z last year during Murph...
Does anyone know what the chipper to qualify for this was?
360p??? REALLY!?!?!
what is the pretty sont of the beginning ? thx
Pretty impressive for Katrin to come 2th in the 2012 regions.
that line for the HSPU is not working
Out of interest, is the damper on the rower set on 10 in events like this?
+Casey Denman You set the damper to whatever you want. The damper isn't a difficulty setting. It's more like the gears on a bike. Sure a low gear is easy to peddle, but it's also hard to go fast. espetáculo 🙌
What was Bjorgvin doing there?
Katrin you are the best ❤️
what's a chipper? (not even sure how to write it)
+AMD94 it means you have to chip away at it. Usually a really hard movement for a lot of reps that you can't complete all at once without pausing to rest at some point in the movement.
Both those girls were AmaZing
Great workout.
what if I don't have a rower?
I am sure if you go to a box near you they'll let you use it
Go to any Crossfit gym.. I'm sure they'd let you use they're equipment!
I'm guessing a lot of us won't even get to the rower
+Ferrum 26 exactly what I said in my head 😂😂😂
Thanks!
33:50 is when the workout begins
CrossFit is awesome!
I'm so glad SARA won, I'm cheering her on 100% of the way. Katrin is cool and all, but I see Sara working her ass off and she seems like a regular woman who loves to eat and compete lol.
guess you don't really follow katrin at all
+joel3valles I do but you must follow Sara either. I like both but Sara in my opinion is better, look at the numbers not the beauty. Lol.
+jenn mendoza I follow both of them but you said Sara works her ass off... well... so does katrin. I like both as well, but this is just the open. the 2015 champ is katrin and even tho Sara was in the lead the whole competition she ended up losing so numbers don't mean anything right now.

That is awesome!! Is the Nation Anthem sung every time before a live open workout? It should be right?

+ppille1 That's your opinion and that's fine. It just happens to be wrong.
+felixhulkb oh and also, I don't fight for any country, I fight to protect my family and friends.
+ppille1 Almost all major sporting events play a national anthem.
