    I don't have a truck, nor do I have an Awning, but I do have a wish list. I would suggest that you go to a fabric shop and get some stick on patch material , cut to size, match the colour or go black, and place the patch on all contact points. Change out as needed. Just a thought. Cheers.

    You need to slide your awning mount to the rear more. Look at the slot on the interior of the backing housing. Loosen it and slide it back. Thanks

    For the third issue- If possible, after packing the awning inside the cover wrapping a strap around the entire end where you're having trouble to see if you can cinch it down so that everything moves together or doesn't move at all. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for sharing you experience.

  • @stevecoscia

    The internal wear you described towards the end is unusual and probably due to inferior materials. I have had the Eezi-Awn Bat 270 Awning for more than 4 years, mine doesn't do that. Also the soft-case zipper on mine is never an issue. That being said, your awning is delivering shade and rain relief so just enjoy it.

    Just watched your review of 270 awnings. I wanted to mention that my OVS 270 doesn't have a gap at the rear like yours. My support bar at the rear opens right up against my RTT with no gap. I also do not have any wear at all on my material. I installed mine six months ago and have travelled on pavement of back country bush and rock climbing. I also have the larger version that has two arms hinged on the front end and the rest on the back end. It is a true 270. The Lt version is smaller and has all the limbs on one end.

      @@varsityoverland I am going out this weekend so I'm going to do a thorough inspection to see if there are any early signs, and I'll take a picture of the position of the rear bar on relation to my tent. What I don't like is how far it hands out from the side when closed. I've ribbed it on more than a few trees. I have the exact same rack set up as you too.

    A few comments.... This is normal wear and tear and in part design flaws that can not be resolved until users give feed back, which is what you are doing, so thanks. D&P costs can get immpossible to overcome and still make the product affordable. Not all companies are equal and the design success in part comes from a compilation of other companies R&D (evolution). Things like instruction manuals can make or break a company, customer expectations, user improper use of installation, proper maintenence,etc. The more expensive products usually have spent the time, materials, development to manufacture a high quality product and then pass that cost on to the customer ( you get what you pay for)

    What about using a liquid rubber coating on the canvas where the pressure spots friction rub/wear is located? Or if that is the only spot it happens, toss a shop rag between the limbs at that spot to provide cushion?

    I think one big issue with free-standing awnings on market is that when they come our they are level to where you mount it..some have a inner pole at the main joint to push the canvas up to let rain rain off but I seen heaps of the get pooling. Mainly because awnings with poles you can raise 1 pole and lower one so that water rains off perfectly. I got a 270 square back and front 2.5m awning with poles but I'll be custom converting it to free-standing but my idea is at the joint I'll add a heavy duty stainless steel hinge with pin on each bar.. so that you can lower them making it so one high, one low to make water run off..that and have drop down poles

    Can these awnings be attached to the rear of the vehicle? That would eliminate the gap over the tailgate.

  • @skiboot1
    @skiboot1 7 месяцев назад +2

    Yo buddy,
    You could potentially fix the issue where the awning doesnt cover the tail gate. You could put a washer stack on the mount and bolts closest to the front of the vehicle. That will help pivot and gain a few more degrees.
    You may need to get longer bolts that what came with it but this may help, idk

    I'd argue the brand doesn't really matter, the majority of these awnings are just rebranded Chinese models, so you can't really expect much in terms of quality. It just hurts more when you pay the premium for the brand rather than direct from the manufacturer.

    Loved the review and thank you. I've been thinking about getting one of these for my 6x12 trailer toy hauler. I am still considering it due to the HATE items you described are workable. For the rubbing why not just grab heavy socks and cover every hinge point when stored closed. For the rear gap which looks and be very annoying while trying to stay dry under it. The C channel looks like you can easily modify something to create an extension with clips. I hope Overlander take notes and come up with solutions. I still think its a good looking and functional product.

    Lastly, I feel that although the tent is free standing, MANY people still deploy the legs. Therefore I can save weight and get more coverage with the rhino rack. Please provide any feedback! Thank you!
