I’m getting memories from like 3rd grade when the school library said you can only get 1 dog man book, because dog man was a book EVERYONE wanted to read. The only book people pretty much read was dog man. Fast forward to now, the book series everyone in the elementary school wanted to read is now a movie. This is peak right here.
I remember in 3rd grade (like late 2019) fetch 22 came out and I wanted to read it so bad, but it was December and starting in October my mom doesn't let me buy anything until after Christmas, so I had to wait to get the book. Then our librarian personally delivered copies of that new dog man book to 2 of my classmates, who preordered it. I am so glad they kept the unique artstyle for the movie. Judging from the trailer, it looks like a faithful and wacky adaptation of the original Dog Man. Only thing that can make this better is Ed Helms saying "Tra-la-la !!!" as Captain Underpants.

As a person who read the books when they were younger heres my takes: 1. Love the art style 2. Chief's actor is exactly how I imagined he would sound 3. I did a drawing of Dog Man for an art competition held at my school once around middle school, It got me second place. Those were good times, and now I'm grown up and I get to see Dog Man in the big screens.

You can hear the voice acting differences. The ones in Minecraft feel kind of forced and fake, while in Dog Man, the voice actors seemed to put their soul into their lines
Another thing i wanted to note. Minecraft movie chose the wrong cast (ik only jack black counts but still) jack black as steve makes no sense at all he does not look like steve nor does he act like him (infact jason mamoa should have been steve lol). This one seems to have the right cast because all their voices sound fitting for their character (especially petey kinda matched how i would imagine him sounding) plus they made dogman mute still

I like this dynamic, which reminds me a lot of Wallace and Gromit, where one character is more "dumb" or a bit clumsier (although in the case of the policeman in Dog Man, he's ACTUALLY DUMBER or at least more careless), while the other, the pet or companion, is smarter, wiser, more cautious and aware of his surroundings and not as naive. They're a dynamic duo. But here, in, well, DOG MAN, it's the mix of the two. Here, THEY'RE LITERALLY TWO CHARACTERS IN ONE. XD

some notes i just found and respect: i love the accuracy of Sarahs’ voice, that was spot on. The visual effects (petey clawing the words supa cop, the speed lines with the cop car) were very book-wise. I like how you didn’t make the buildings look like buildings, you made them look like buildings drawn by a 9 year old I LOVE how you finally made the main protagonist (dog man duh) silent and didn’t just have a celebrity voice him

I have to give props to DreamWorks for keeping DogMan Silent for this movie and the animation looking exactly like Dav Pilkey’s style for his books and the story being faithful to the book series.

Sarah and the Chief’s voices sounds exactly like I thought they would, but honestly wasn’t expecting Petey’s. Always imagined him to sound something like Boingo from Hoodwinked or Sir Pentious from Hazbin Hotel. Only problem is the music choice
You can hear the voice acting differences. The ones in Minecraft feel kind of forced and fake, while in Dog Man, the voice actors seemed to put their soul into their lines
Another thing i wanted to note. Minecraft movie chose the wrong cast (ik only jack black counts but still) jack black as steve makes no sense at all he does not look like steve nor does he act like him (infact jason mamoa should have been steve lol).
This one seems to have the right cast because all their voices sound fitting for their character (especially petey kinda matched how i would imagine him sounding) plus they made dogman mute still

I like this dynamic, which reminds me a lot of Wallace and Gromit, where one character is more "dumb" or a bit clumsier (although in the case of the policeman in Dog Man, he's ACTUALLY DUMBER or at least more careless), while the other, the pet or companion, is smarter, wiser, more cautious and aware of his surroundings and not as naive. Sarah and the Chief’s voices sounds exactly like I thought they would, but honestly wasn’t expecting Petey’s. Always imagined him to sound something like Boingo from Hoodwinked or Sir Pentious from Hazbin Hotel. Not saying the voice doesn’t work, I think it’s starting to grow on me, but it was honestly a little unexpected.
It’s hard to imagine a voice for a character that’s pretty much a stick figure, but I know what you mean.
