  • During the last 6 months I added another poison dart frog species to the collection, got tons of eggs and tadpoles from all four dart frog species I currently own and got my first house gecko babies. I also briefly show some of my new vivariums, and talk a bit about mixing different poison dart frog species in the same vivarium.

I enjoyed this video. I'm new to keeping frogs. I have started with tadpoles. Your tanks and plants look so nice.

Could you keep a single dart frog species with something that's not a dart frog? Like White's Tree Frogs?

Wouldn’t recommend it. Pretty sure a white’s would be large enough to consider the dart frogs food. I’ve seen some successful vivariums with darts and a smaller tree frog species, but a good rule of thumb is that if you have to ask about it you probably shouldn’t mix species. It takes a lot of experience to give them the best possible chance to thrive in a mixed vivarium and to be able to notice if anything goes wrong in time. One exception is keeping mourning geckos with dart frogs (not Ranitomeya or Phyllobates terribilis, the Ranitomeya could get hurt or eaten by the geckos and the terribilis could try to eat the geckos). That’s a fairly safe and common mix.

Thanks for answering. I really don't plan to keep any frogs, I'm just curious and find them fascinating. If I do one day keep frogs, I'll know not to mix.
