My eyes were glued to Katarina the whole time. Debi and the others had the more difficult jumps, but no one drew the audience in like Katarina. It was a recital v performance
Many years have passed, still time to time watch Katarina’s Carmen. It is just unforgettable.
Even without Debi thomas' mistakes,
Katerina's performance was, unlike Debi's, exciting.
Katarina was Carmen.
KATARINA hands down. The one and only.
Debi practiced. Katarina became a legend.

This is a perfect example of what’s happening in many sports. Look at the beauty of Katrina Witt.....such artistry throughout. Debbie is fantastic, but more athletic. But where’s the poetry in her movements. It’s the same for gymnastics. It’s all about how many somersaults you can do....but where’s the beauty of the Romanian gymnasts.....the artistry. The Romanians are still losing points yet are stunning to watch in motion.....we’ve lost the artistry of sport. It’s now all about who can do the dangerous.......Katrina is clearly the winner here.
Poetry? You know Mikhail Baryshnikov literally helped Debi with choreo...so there was no lack of artistry. Witt posed for literally the whole first minute while Debi actually skated.
@@freddiemercury4evr Katarina would have won without skating 😂😂😂😂 she had a stunning presence, as easy as that, yet Debbie help her by giving up. To bad the dancers effort didn’t pay off. Debbie performed Carmen, Kati was Carmen.
@@freddiemercury4evrdo you think that because the grand divo of the ballet world helped Thomas with the choreography for her Carmen would actually translate into artistry with her performance? That's a rhetorical question, btw. Debbie Thomas should have never, ever, chosen Carmen as her choice. She was an amazing athlete, but a Dorothy Dandridge she's not. To embody the role of Carmen you need beauty, allure, sexuality, all of those Katarina Witt had in spades. Had she been a ballerina instead of a skater, she would have probably been the best Carmen ever.
Debi..Gave Up after her two-footed Triple jump. She didn't "sell" the program. She was going through the motions. KATARINA skated a technically safe, unambitious Program and did alot of posing--that's Not Artistry. KATARINA Won.. because Debi FAILED.

Watching this like a Sevillian citizen, i just can tell you that Katharina Witt transmitted all about Carmen; Flamenco, passion and also her handwork was exelent. Debbie's presentacion was a tipical american sporty one; she didn't have any connection with her maintheme of " Carmen". Had won the right lady this!
Debi had harder jumps.. the slip ups cost her..but Katerina won on performance..
Sie hat die beste Kür undsiehat die besten Noten, besonders in künstlerischen Darbietung. Und das mit Recht. Debby hätte zumindest eine passendere Frisur bebötigt. Dss ganze Outfit von Katharina und ihre Choreografie war einfach viel besser!!!! ❤❤❤

KATARINA skated a safe, unambitious Program and did alot of Pro Competiton posing. KATARINA won because...Debi cracked under pressure. Debi's program was about Amateur Technical Achievement...IF she had skated well.

Debbie is athletic, Katharina is artistic. To me, Midori and deserved to be a legend.

The side by side comparison has been very done - but my gaze is drawn to Katharina who was Carmen.

Hier im Vergleich sieht man ganz deutlich, wie langweilig und auch fehlerhaft das Programm ist. Debby bewegt sich kaum, steht viel rum, auch technisch nicht sehr anspruchsvoll. Bei Kati hingegen stimmt alles vom Anfang bis zum Ende. Man schaut Kati sehr gerne zu. 💖Klasse Kati. Du bist die Beste, auch wenn andere vor Neid fast zuplatzen.
Wieso bekommt Debby viel zu hohe Noten?!
This was a silly comparison and I didn't like that Debi tried to play into it. Debi really should've stuck to what she does best; her carefree, sassy, athletic routine. She would've had waay more fun and probably would've won a silver medal🤷🏽♀️
The content of Katharina's program wasn't as difficult but it was more consistent
I like the part where he said "it's carmen time" and carmened all over the place

Katarina had a better line and finesse in her skating.
One whole minute into the music..Debi was skating while Witt literally just posed. Not comparable. Also, Debi had Mikhail Baryshnikov do some of her choreo, so don't try to say she lacked artistic expression. Debi had a harder routine and just didn't have a good skate..it happens.
You're American, where she now? I heard she broke, lives in trailer and no longer a doctor. America took care of her.
She lives in Atlanta now and is back on the ice. She's doing very well
I'm sure everyone knows Debi is now unemployed living in a roach-invested trailer with a man with a history of abusing her. Can't get any more down than that.

Think of athletes who've hit rock bottom. Debi didn't cheat... embarrass herself...assault a competitor... disrespect the National Anthem...take steroids...traffic drugs. California needs General Practitioners--Debi needs to come back into medicine.
She's living in Atlanta, back in skating shape and back on the ice. Done a few exhibitions and a couple of skating clinics. She's doing very well

Her Carmen is boring. She hasn't expression. She's just another russian ice skater. Who will ask for her in few years? The russian ladies in ice skating change so quickly.

No. She lacks the emotion
As much as Debi irked my soul with her flubs and lack of oomph, I liked her program better than Katerina's. I thought her edging and lines were gorgeous. Wish she had just doubled that 2nd triple, in the beginning, to keep her confidence afloat. Katerina's was dramatic and acting. although she performed her jumps beautifully I was bored. Liz Manley should have won the gold. Her program had me smiling ear to ear and cheering!
Its literally not even up for question that Witts programm was better. Youre only sympathetic to Debbie because youre black too
