I love how despite Chugga having played this game several times, he still goes along with the story and events as if he was witnessing them for the first time.
An evil kitsune, if I am not mistaken, would actually be a nogitsune, or a kitsune that had gone rogue and stopped serving Inari. The fact a kitsune could become evil really scars me, because usually they are actually well-intentioned, even for tricksters.
Not only was her hair covering one eye, the beads she wears is red, while in the vision, they are blue and as you mentioned, the hair is not covering her eye.
thats kinda funny because chugga mentioned the bottom of the well and if memory serves me correctly the shadow temple from ocarina of time is at the bottom of the well
@@judaiyuki5597 The Shadow Temple and the Bottom of the Well are both in Kakariko Village, but are distinct locations. The Bottom of the Well is where the boss Bongo Bongo was sealed, but it escaped and took over the Shadow Temple.
So, something I noticed (after having watched this series several times) is that when they are attacked by the Water Dragon after getting the Lucky Mallet, the Water Dragon initially goes directly after "Rao", only attacking Ammy after she gets away. I think that, even in his madness he could recognize "Rao" as the Dark Lord.
I mean.. Was Rao being evil super obvious to anyone else? When Amaterasu gave her the rods I was just like, "Great job. Some god you are, falling for the most obvious trick ever."
If this was a Tamamo-no-Mae Arc then we would've seen Amaterasu in Rao's Place because Tamamo-no-Mae was basically a Reincarnation of Amaterasu but since Amaterasu is a Wolf in this game then yeah. Also not all Kitsune are known to be evil! If you look up who Inari is then you will see that her Servants appear wearing a White Scarf around their necks.
oh shoot! when I saw the yellow on the corpse I screamed "Busty Babe" and my husbend looked at me with a very srs face xDDD I thaught the corpse cas the busty babe LOL I think I might be right..
Man, it must be hard for Chugga, knowing the whole plot and having played the game multiple times, but he can't reveal anything too soon for fear of spoilers (like back when we met red-bead Rao). Hats off to you, Chugga! :D
She was already the Dark Lord when we first met her. This is proven by the fact that she mentions that she intentionally lured Amaterasu and Issun to the Sunken Ship as bait for the Water Dragon.
the demons come from a land north of Nippon Nippon is another name for Japan, Korea is to the North of Japan, there is a North and South Korea, the villagers are afraid of the north because of demons, North Korea is attacking Nippon in this game, dammit Kim
+em1nem13 No... nice try, but no. "North of Nippon" refers to the island on top of Japan (Hokkaido), inhabited by the Ainu. (And Japanese). The Ainu and Japanese have an... interesting... history. If you've ever seen FMA, the Ishvlans are based on the Ainu (not Jews. The resemblance says a lot for how the Japanese treated them). But basically, they were considered inferior to ethnic Japanese, and differed from them in culture greatly, having more of a tribal-like culture. When Okami was made, the Ainu were STILL not recognized by Japan as being native to the country, and were still discriminated against (this changed in 08). The game referring to them as a land of trouble and not-Japanese is because that was the view of them for a looonnnggg time.
no he was correct since the nine tails (kitsune, i believe is its name) killed her. there are people in town that tell the story of her loved ones grieving. soo... yeah.
Tonya Rickett are you being serious right now. honestly this game and lp are so old, so you can expect most people to already know. also its not all that much of a spoiler since i never mentioned that that was the black blur. so if anything people would have assumed chugga mentioned roa's mythology but now that you said that people will now know that i was referring to the blur.
Fun fact! In Japanese mythology kitsune (foxes) would possess beautiful young women either under their nails or through their breasts, with large breasted women easier for them to take control of, hence why the game developers made rao a "busty babe". They weren't just perverts or something lol
6:25; Amaterasu: Alright, I don't know how I didn't see it before, but you're not really Rao, are you? You're actually the Dark Lord of Ryoshima Coast!
Nintetails says that she LURED US TO THE SHIP IN ORDER TO OBTAIN FOX RODS so we when we met her it already was Ninetails and not Rao, Rao has been dead for a while and her body left in the severs...
Chuggaa, you don't have to do anything special for your 1,000th video. We all appreciate the work you put into these, and what with all your traveling, we're lucky enough to get videos as is. Just keep doing what you do!
Hold those melons, viewers! That's not Priestess Rao, it's a kyubi/malevolent Nine Tail Fox spirit. So this is what the Dragon King's vision meant. Ammy, show that murderous Yokai who is the REAL master of the brush in the spirit world
Yep. In addition, they didn't ALWAYS have 9 tails. 9 Tailed Kyuubi were actually the most powerful magically, the more tails they had (1-9) the more powerful their magic was :)
Ok, so basically here's the rundown: The person we thought was Rao is truly the Dark Lord aka Ninetails. The ghost/ person King Waka was showing/ corpse in the underground passage is the real Rao. And basically Ammy handed over the Fox Rods to Ninetails, giving her a free pass to kill Himiko. HOW IN THE NAME OF THE 13 BRUSH GODS DID RAO GET ACROSS THE LAVA!?
In this fight against Rao, I discovered that while the power slash doesn`t work unless she`s grey and weak, cherry bomb is a great weapon and jumping around with the rosary and using the sub-glaive both in the air and on the ground was quite an asset. That, plus watching her carefully for her next move, nets you a good ranking at the end.
Kitsune were also associated with the fertility of females and the land. Their counterpart were tanuki, who were generally male as opposed to the female kitsune. Tanuki were associated with virility, and were said to increase the size of their testicles at will. Which is why you'll often see Tanuki statues with large, visible sacs..
Thanks Chuggaaconroy. Because of your playthrough of Okami, I have learned about the Kitsune, which has made me aware of Zoroarks position. So now, if there is to be a Pokémon Grey, I will be able to use it. Thank you. Btw. When Evil Rao eats the orb ... not creapy at all. He he he... However. Learning about the real Rao, and especially seeing her dead body... That was kind of hard. Anyway. If Okamiden is anywhere near the level, seen in this episode, I'll be there on the release date!
kitsunes are foxes that have usually over one tail and the maximum amount of tails a kitsune can have is nine. That also plays into the fox fire which is a bit of a knock off of pipe foxes, another kind of fox in mythology that is usually small enough to fit into a pipe, hence 8 foxes in the fox rods That's a small tidbit of mythology for anybody interested as well as my ten cents :)
@TheMrpokemonmaniac Aaw....that darn Episode 52 was hiding from me when I checked his channel! :x It would have been awesome if his 1000th video was a 50TH episode of a walkthrough, don't you think? :s
Besides Happyaku Bikuni (the 800 year old Priestess), Rao (or should I say Evil Rao or Dark Lord Ninetails) is also based on Tamamo-no-Mae, a beautiful and intelligent courtesan of an emperor, who gave him an illness (Blight's influence), and when the emperor was told she was a Nine-tailed Kitsune who sickened him, he sent Kazusa-no-suke and Miura-no-suke to hunt her down and kill her. Her corpse then became Sessho-Seki (the Killing Stone). Anyone who touched it died.
If you look carefully at the vision in the previous episode, and the spirit of Rao in this one, you can see she looks just a little different. For one, she had blue beads around her neck. Also, like Chugga mentioned, 9 is an important number if you're a fox in Japanese mythology. You'll notice that dark evil thing at the end has, in fact, got 9 tails. I believe the amount of tails a fox has, represent its wisdom (which it still uses for trickery/mischief, mind you), but I'm not sure.
I like to do that a lot too whenever I play games. Helps keep things interesting, and sometimes is all that keeps me sane when going through rage-inducing parts.
one thing im fuzzy on. teh vision is the dragon orb isnt really given a time frame. so was the vision in "real time" and she got chased attacked after she had the fox rods (which would make sense, but why didnt she use them?), or was this from a while ago and we in fact just handed the fox rods over to evil rao? against evil rao i had a subreflector, but i used a vengence slip, steel soul sake and steel fist sake. then whip the crap out of her! took her down in seconds! full cherry blossoms!
It pains me to admit that it took me until about my third playthrough to realize both differences between Evil Rao and the real Rao. The difference in the bead color I got right away (Evil Rao has red, while Rao has blue) but the hair took me awhile to notice. Poor Rao...left to rot in an underground tunnel.
@AlauraAmmatesuru Actually, Rao's appearence in the game is different then in the vision and as a ghost, and Issun hints that she's been dead for a LONG time.
Another thing about Kitsune~ They are known to trick others, although they can be portrayed as guardians, friends, lovers, or wives. Speaking of wives, they tend to transform into humans, especially women. So that explains why the Kitsune chose Rao to transform into..

I wonder if he knows that the more you use the thief glove the more damage issun does and that at max power after about 12,000 uses issun can almost always 1hit kill?
@petpettails123 Yeah pretty much, dark lord (a kitsune presumably) killed Rao and copied her form to get close to Himiko (difference is that real Rao has blue beads, dark lord's copy of Rao has red beads, you only see it in the flashback/vision thingie) so it could kill Himiko and spread destruction.
I love how despite Chugga having played this game several times, he still goes along with the story and events as if he was witnessing them for the first time.

I wonder if he knows that the more you use the thief glove the more damage issun does and that at max power after about 12,000 uses issun can almost always 1hit kill?
chugga you make these walktrhoughs more entertaining
@petpettails123
Yeah pretty much, dark lord (a kitsune presumably) killed Rao and copied her form to get close to Himiko (difference is that real Rao has blue beads, dark lord's copy of Rao has red beads, you only see it in the flashback/vision thingie) so it could kill Himiko and spread destruction.
there is 2 questions i have 1 HOW DID RAO GET INTO QUEEN HIMIKO'S ROOM?! CAN SHE FLOAT?! 2 how does queen himiko go to the bathroom? and go outside?
Wait...
In the beginning of the video, is it playing 'Giving Kushinada A Ride'?!
