Hello! So, ever since posting another Bonus Video for this series and telling my story about Yami, I've had some viewers suggesting I make an amendment to this video. Annotations no longer exist, so I thought a pinned comment would be the way to go. In this video, I claim to have the intended origin for Yami, but have since learned it isn't the case. Among all the hundreds of stories from mythology, I found claims of Yami's origin and wrote it down as something to look into. After enough time passed and after I'd already read so much and taken down notes on it all, it got mixed in with my confirmed notes, hence me thinking I had the answer in this video. I traced back the original source for the information I say here, and it was just a RUclips comment on an OST upload, not a reliable source at all. I've had others ask if I could say what Yami is actually based on, and I don't think he is meant to be anything in particular. "Yami" just means "Evil" or "Darkness" in Japanese, and his physical appearance is a black koi, which usually represents Yang in Asian artwork. I think this means that he just simply is the source of evil itself and that his actual character is meant to be mysterious. One of those that's up to the player to interpret what they are, sort of like Giygas. My personal interpretation is just my own opinion, but I can share that here for those who would want to hear it. I now think his small size and simple appearance show that evil can take any form and can grow out of control if left unchecked, as innocent as it might seem at first glance. Since everything, including the previous main antagonists, Orochi and Ninetails are deeply based on well-known stories, I can see how one could think Yami is based on something as well. Because of this, I can see how the mistake came to be without being caught. May this set things straight! I never imagined one of the earliest instances of me spreading misinformation or making a mistake in my research would be one of the biggest instances.
chuggaaconroy I don’t what you said was wrong it just wasn’t right not to mention the things you said about Yami does kind of add up so you were both right and wrong about yami beside there’s there’s really no clear answer for what Yami is
I love how the Okami wiki specifically has "chuggaconroy is not a valid source of information" disclaimers on all of it's editing pages AND Yomi's article is locked specifically because of people quoting you XD
yes, Yami is a fish controlling a giant machine of chaos the fish represents that small and innocent looking things can be dangerous and that evil begins small
Hi there. Just something to share. back in 2011 march i was watching this whole series of okami.....while waiting for our kids to be born so a short while ago i just came back to watch this and then our son came by and went "woah this game looks epic". how time flies.
Pengy 05 Amaterasu is the sun god. So with the sun eclipsed she loses all her powers. Yami the lord of darkness ofcourse is then at his strongest. considered that? It's solely because of that. yami is the darkness in everyones heart
13:33 Xenoblade Reference. This might be the earliest timeframe for when we know Chuggaconroy starated his Xenoblade research with his own copy of Xenoblade.
I really like these flashback type things he edits into it. I don't know if when he gets each power back and it fades in the intro of who gave him that power is either the game or his editing but it's really awesome. Kinda like a journey for the viewers that we went on with him.
It's Susano because if you look closely he's wearing the clothing he used when he fought Orochi and killed him yup it's Susano Chuggaa was wrong about him being Nagi
Braixen BC A: Substantiate that is is a mythological reference B: Substantiate that the bases of the forms are indeed these mythological references and not attributed to them by fans.
Ono matopoeia I couldn't find anything. The reason why I believe it is based on mythology is because Chuggaconroy seems to know allot about it. In previous episodes he talked about the things in relation to the actual mythology.
Wow....I love how you provide all of that background information on the brush techniques each time you get one back. It's like a professional playthrough. 8D OKAMI FTW.
Chuggaa inspired me to do a let's play of Okami HD! Mine's probably not as good, but hey ;P What an awesome game! I wish more people knew about it. Well I suppose these days people know about it, but before the developer was disbanded because it used to be more obscure. Ah well!
Even now I am coming back to Okami HD on the Switch. It's a trial to get everything, but in the end, it's worth it. and the story is just the best part in my eyes.
When I see the core of Yami, I keep imagining it's a Seal Okami, it could've been the Brush God of Darkness, but it's use would be to camouflage yourself in shadows, to avoid being seen. If it was, I'd imagine the name being Yamigami, funny as it sounds, it fits.
i just finished this game like an hour ago, and i just wanted to say.. thank you chuggaa. if you hadnt made these videos i would have missed out on a great game. thank you!
wow, you are really great at taking an epic, dramatic moment in a game. And then making it even more epic. Chugga, you are hilarious but I love how you know when and how to enhance the great moments in video games. I could go on and on. I only started watching your Lp's about 5 months ago. Maybe less even. You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs. :) Keep up the great work man!
*singing* The Gods are dead, but we're condemned to live on, Longing for light but afraid of the sun. And we can't find satisfaction, though we constantly try. These things that we live for, this world must deny. Endlessly living, unable to die.
I still love the way the final battle is edited with the gods appearing as the powers are released. I was actually disappointed when that didn’t happen in game
random note chugga forgot: there is a glitch where if yami proceeds to his second form and there are still holes in the battlefield, there is a chance the floor will not get repaired and you cannot rejuvenate them at least in the wii version
I like at 11:57 he says that a giant spirit of nagi comes out of the moon, even though that's Susano. You can see its the same clothes from when you fight Orochi for the first time.
HEY GUYS!!!! Little bit of info for those who are upset because this video doesn't have the credits in it. The Wii version doesn't have the ending credits in it. BUT it has the ending song. Look in your presents from Issun and go to music and you'll find it :D
Damn, when waka gets serious, he is bad ass. Owning up to the fact that he caused the death of the celestials, and brought the monsters to the mortal world.
Did anyone else notice that the missiles were, in fact, the clay figurines that we met in Shinshu Field 100 years ago? Take a close look at 28:30, at the missile close to the screen; you can clearly see that it's a clay figure with both arms curved, with one "hand" touching the head and the other at the waist.
The powers you regain actually comes in a special order, not only because they were obtained in that order. But in the first phase of Yami, his power is of the destructing power of humanity. The first power you regain is rejuvenation which undo the destructions and then rendering cuts the evil and then bloom the light within the dark. It's not clear to me what the explosive force do in this case, but the power of water is to remove the danger of fire to the woods. Continued below.
The way you edited the gods to appear when you got each brush stroke back looked so real that I was actually disappointed when I played the game & this didn't happen.
you forgot to mention that Yami's true form: the fish, represents that small and innocent looking things can be dangerous and that darkness begins small
I'm not sure if this would betray mythology or not, but it would be really cool if Waka could come back with a sword, and Amaterasu could christen the blade, not with the moon, but with the sun to finish off the boss, because her counterpart, the moon, got to christen the blade that killed Orochi twice, so it's only fair.
In my opinion Yami is Arc central computer. Who know how old is that ship, and what was it's true purpose? Celestials probably unintentionally trigger security protocols when they try use it as evacuation ship.
Finally ice. If any of the powers fail, ice lays the world in ice and snow to remove every darkness though it also removes light. These are my thoughts of why the powers comes in the following order. Please reply and explain YOUR thoughts on this subject.
Using every power to fight the final boss....just....brilliant. Maybe not your all time favorite, but no game bests this in my honest opinion. I can't get enough of this game.
I just noticed the day of darkness is alot like a solar eclipse, which makes sense because yami was biult by the moon tribe and IRL it's the moon that blocks the sun. They were very far out with 100 years, it's more like 400 years for that location and 1.5 years for anywhere on earth.
@Dancergirl600 Because he believes in Amaterasu and is fighting Yami with her in spirit. I also think that the guy slicing Yami's shell in half was actually Susano. Not sure though, since he and Nagi look so alike.
Ammy versus Yami anybody? Although... whoa! If Waka had lovely, luscious locks like that, why didn't he model for a L'Oreal commercial when he wasn't searching for the Ark of Yamato?!
I don't agree with Chuggaa's description of Fireburst as just "now you can create fire''. He even went as far as saying that Solar Flare makes it useless. There's no comparison between the power of the regular Inferno technique where you guide fire from a source and Fireburst. Have you tried drawing a big symbol on the screen when using Fireburst? It summons a massive amount of fire, it's very powerful.
I just noticed the chests in the battle on the pillars on the side which you can reach with catwalk and am wondering what they contain. Probably healing items though.
You know I actually used Inferno in this fight without ever unlocking it. I had looked on the internet for help and saw that you could draw an infinity symbol to make fire. I never did unlock it manually, but apparently I could use it anyway
Upon seeing the final boss's shell - "How appropriate, the final boss is ball pushing physics" When the shell opened up - "Orca's evil twin brother Acro?!"

Neat
chuggaaconroy i feel special for being one of the few people to see this.
Thanks for posting this! I was wondering since you posted the update video what the real deal was.
chuggaaconroy I don’t what you said was wrong it just wasn’t right not to mention the things you said about Yami does kind of add up so you were both right and wrong about yami beside there’s there’s really no clear answer for what Yami is
I really did like the explanations you gave here, even if they were untrue. It gives some sort of sense to Yami, who really comes outta nowhere.
I love how the Okami wiki specifically has "chuggaconroy is not a valid source of information" disclaimers on all of it's editing pages AND Yomi's article is locked specifically because of people quoting you XD
WOW is that funny as heck!
WHAT THE FUCK?!
Jebadaih Kerman[Rayzan01] my thoughts exactly
Facade Kitsune That is unbelievably funny.
Wow
I just realized.
The protagonist of the game is a dog, and its ultimate enemy is literally a ball.
god agientst llab
dog agienst ball
you forgot to mention, Yami's weak point, the fish, represents how all evil starts out small
Tammy Hagenbaugh Good point.
Ammy got back all the god's powers in this battle except her own.
yes, Yami is a fish controlling a giant machine of chaos
the fish represents that small and innocent looking things can be dangerous and that evil begins small
I love how they made Yami based on the many evil desires of humanity.
Makes you think: is humanity truly evil? Nah, flawed, maybe, but not evil.
@@thecplman1
Kinda sucks that Yami doesn't speak he should've actually talked.
Hi there.
Just something to share.
back in 2011 march i was watching this whole series of okami.....while waiting for our kids to be born
so a short while ago i just came back to watch this and then our son came by and went "woah this game looks epic". how time flies.
*ultra plot twist*
The yami's true form...the lord of darkness is probably the cutest villain ever xD
Man I miss this LP.
then watch okamiden
GunnerAstro if only another okami series came out
Fact for Chuggaconroy
Did you know that the weak spot in Yami which is a fish symbolizes that all evil start small.
I have really enjoyed this series, and I hate to see it end. Thanks for playing this game and sharing your trivia about the game.
Also, if you use the ice from the fountains while he's on the ground, Oki's spirit comes and attacks Yami.
I can't be the only one thinking that Yami should've used the brush techniques during the fight, similar to how Ninetails did it in his fight.
no, Ninetales was a false god. A pretender with artificial powers like the gods. Yami is a creature of pure darkness who comes from the evil of man.
Pengy 05 Amaterasu is the sun god. So with the sun eclipsed she loses all her powers. Yami the lord of darkness ofcourse is then at his strongest. considered that? It's solely because of that. yami is the darkness in everyones heart
Lilith_Night sun goddess technically.
Jonah Logan Yep! Haha. although the term god is genderless
Lilith_Night but Ammy is clearly a girl.
Soooooo, this force of great evil is a fish in a hamster ball that's in a bigger and opaque hamster ball.Great
FEAR THE FISH IN THE HAMSTER BALL!!!
@@hikarichan7984
I think a pure evil version of Amaterasu would've been much better.
Is it just me, or does Yami look like a cute baby seal?
MetaGiga ikr
He's actually an evil koi fish.
Who here thinks okami amaterasu wold make a great pet for emile
I love how you did this boss! Giving a description of the powers and what not. It really made it feel like the end of the game.
"Is there any water I can use...doesn't look like it."
"Actualy I can't use wind can I..."
Both of those times deluge would have worked fine...
When Yami absorbed your abilities, I thought the first phase of the battle would be like Ninetails where It can use the Celestial brush as well.
Or at least have attacks similar to your abilities.
13:33 Xenoblade Reference. This might be the earliest timeframe for when we know Chuggaconroy starated his Xenoblade research with his own copy of Xenoblade.
I wonder why that fish/seal thing as a final boss of evil?
it smell kind of fishy, but I seal the deal.
DaLeafDave Seriously?
C'mon that those puns weren't even cool
Get it..? Cause the Ark of Yamato is in Web'keer... ok..
Ok at the end yami turns to master hands which means Amaterasu needs to be in a smash bros soon
I really like these flashback type things he edits into it. I don't know if when he gets each power back and it fades in the intro of who gave him that power is either the game or his editing but it's really awesome. Kinda like a journey for the viewers that we went on with him.
At 7:33, it's not the Cave of Nagi! It's the River of Heavens! Power slash was in the Cave of Nagi! XD
Venus Gametrap so u realized ur mistake. btw chugga if u use cressent a giant spirit of susano comes and chops yami
Actually, it's a giant spirit of Nagi. And I'm sure that he knows that.
look closely. you'l see that it's susano
It's Susano because if you look closely he's wearing the clothing he used when he fought Orochi and killed him yup it's Susano Chuggaa was wrong about him being Nagi
thank u dylan for believing me
wait the dark lord is a black fish????
BOB THE BLACKFISH!
its a sign that all evil starts small
Jebadaih Kerman[Rayzan01] I think its a sign that evil can come from the smallest things
Jebadaih Kerman[Rayzan01] NO TRUE WORDS HAVE EVER BEEN SAID EVER SINCE TFS' NAPPA PLAYED WORMS RELOADED WITH TFS' VEGETA
Andre Melancia and that
Going through all of the techniques learned throughout the game is a really nice touch.
WAKA. NOOOOOOOOOOO. please tell me I wasn't the only one who reacted that way.
*issun leaves*
Me : ISSUN NOOOO!!
*waka falls*
Me : ...Cool
Ikr I cried so much when Issun had to leave I
love ur editing with the brush gods there
Dang, yami IS the great sacred treasure from kid Icarus uprising
"Humanity's desire to X" I do believe that is a fan theory.
No it's based on mythology.

It makes sense why he was also able to steal the brush techniques.
I had The same thought when I was drawing some (not good) out of yami and I realized something he looks kind of like one of the brush gods.
Okami Yamigami
i just finished this game like an hour ago, and i just wanted to say.. thank you chuggaa. if you hadnt made these videos i would have missed out on a great game. thank you!

The powers you regain actually comes in a special order, not only because they were obtained in that order.

The first power you regain is rejuvenation which undo the destructions and then rendering cuts the evil and then bloom the light within the dark.
It's not clear to me what the explosive force do in this case, but the power of water is to remove the danger of fire to the woods.
Continued below.
Wh- I wasn't even 1 and a half minutes into the video and waka is already there being the amazing character he is :3
That Issun mirage was the closest I've ever been to crying thus far. Poor Ammy...
The way you edited the gods to appear when you got each brush stroke back looked so real that I was actually disappointed when I played the game & this didn't happen.
you forgot to mention that Yami's true form: the fish, represents that small and innocent looking things can be dangerous and that darkness begins small
the power of eternal darkness brought to you..... by a FIIISSSHHH!!!
It isn't "the most"; it is just "one of the most", though in this group of deeply moving endgames, Ōkami certainly stands at a very high place.
I like how he states the history of each brush technique as he regains them.
Yami: *an absolute big boi*
Yami’s true form: so basically, i baby
or earlier, depending on how you think of it.
It's because his health is high as he's the final boss.
He's the final boss, what do you expect?!
OMG thanks chugga I beat Okami like 5 minutes ago with all the stray beads thanks to YOU
Okay, what Yami's forms mean had totally won me over. This game is just, amazing...
the first 6min 24 seconds were the worst until chuggaconroy first spoke since eons ago. hurray that he finally uploaded this!
In my opinion Yami is Arc central computer. Who know how old is that ship, and what was it's true purpose? Celestials probably unintentionally trigger security protocols when they try use it as evacuation ship.
don't be surprised, even the smallest ripple in a lake can create a tidal wave capable of destroying an entire city
Sweet editing of the brush gods into the battle
Finally ice.
If any of the powers fail, ice lays the world in ice and snow to remove every darkness though it also removes light.

Using every power to fight the final boss....just....brilliant. Maybe not your all time favorite, but no game bests this in my honest opinion. I can't get enough of this game.
So good to watch videos again. and I missed this much
It stil says coming soon when you click the "last episode" button.
I just noticed the day of darkness is alot like a solar eclipse, which makes sense because yami was biult by the moon tribe and IRL it's the moon that blocks the sun. They were very far out with 100 years, it's more like 400 years for that location and 1.5 years for anywhere on earth.
0:00 Okay you win the most awesome annotation of the year award!
@soapsuckers - Amaterasu survived because it's really Steve posing as the main character of this game in this episode.
@Dancergirl600 Because he believes in Amaterasu and is fighting Yami with her in spirit. I also think that the guy slicing Yami's shell in half was actually Susano. Not sure though, since he and Nagi look so alike.
Ammy versus Yami anybody? Although... whoa! If Waka had lovely, luscious locks like that, why didn't he model for a L'Oreal commercial when he wasn't searching for the Ark of Yamato?!
chuggaa never took away the link for the last episode that said "coming soon"
I don't agree with Chuggaa's description of Fireburst as just "now you can create fire''. He even went as far as saying that Solar Flare makes it useless.
There's no comparison between the power of the regular Inferno technique where you guide fire from a source and Fireburst. Have you tried drawing a big symbol on the screen when using Fireburst? It summons a massive amount of fire, it's very powerful.
20:27 "I somehow used tornado :/" Look at the video, he accidentally made another line
If ya draw a dot with a line, it sometimes counts it as 2 lines, you accidently drew a dot when you got the brush out at 20:00
teufort? o_O like the one on shaboozey? cause i'm in that town. or are you referring to something else? :P
i stuck through the whole playthrough one of my favorites and the boss fight was totally awesome
Actually, the spirit using crescent is Susano's model if you look.
You can see Yami's hand on the moon during the Ninetails fight. Which is the best foreshadowing ever. Of all time.
I just noticed the chests in the battle on the pillars on the side which you can reach with catwalk and am wondering what they contain. Probably healing items though.
@ruffmajor But Mother 3 wasn't available in an English translation. Not trying to argue nor sway you into my direction of thought.
You know I actually used Inferno in this fight without ever unlocking it. I had looked on the internet for help and saw that you could draw an infinity symbol to make fire. I never did unlock it manually, but apparently I could use it anyway
The way you edited the brush gods to appear. Best. Thing. Ever.
Geez Capcom, you should've done that
Upon seeing the final boss's shell - "How appropriate, the final boss is ball pushing physics" When the shell opened up - "Orca's evil twin brother Acro?!"
Oh Emile... You and you're very ANNOYING cliffhangers. Then again, that's what keeps us watching.
