As someone who has been lucky enough to see this band, they play these songs live and sound exactly like on the record. Maybe even better. A very powerful band to see live.
I can totally confirm this!
Indeed. My GF and I have seen them 5 times and all 5 concerts were great.
I can also afford to this!!! I’ve seen them 3 times, 2018 & twice in 2022. They’re true musicians
I NEED TO SEE THEM LIVE😭😭😭
I was at the tampa show and can 100% confirm they do really sounded just they way they did in the vid! Very good band and such a unforgettable show!
You’re gonna be singing this song for months. It’s infectious.
I can testify that this is true
Agreed!!! This song is almost disturbingly addictive!
@@kevinwynott7755 must be all that Mary-on-a in the song
Currently humming this for a total of about 6 hours a day.
I’m Infected
The thing about Ghost is that it's actually ABBA-esque pop disguised as heavy metal. And I mean it 100% in a good way. That's why it appeals to a very large audience. Their production is so clever-well-built harmonies, instrumental and vocal breaks, embellishments here and there (e.g. the piano in the second verse of Square Hammer).
Probably the real secret to their success is that they're Swedish...
One of the jokes for years has been calling them "Scooby-Doo Metal." It's accurate, not wrong, and not a complaint. Plus the concerts themselves are an absolute blast.
Yes to all of this. Metal you can dance to, lol. And the live show is fantastic, we took our 8 year old for his first concert and had a blast.
Last sentence is so true, swedish bands do it the best
Scooby-doom!
The real secret is that Tobias is really into music and popular music. And not only that he wants to make popular music, he understands how it works, and he wirtes good stuff.
Tobias Forge is a literal mastermind. He’s got so much talent and and he proves it in every song and every live performance!
Well said and spot on!
@@BirdTalk13 Thank you 🥰
If they have trouble finding choral singers again they could maybe look for ones disillusioned by the system. They're not uncommon but difficult to search for as methods available aren't exactly geared towards finding such people who probably don't want to be sought by the usual (religiously orientated) hirers
Given he writes all the songs and plays all instruments, I think he said he hired a drummer for one album, but yes, he is a musical prodigy...
@@S2Sturges exactly!!
In the lore of the band, this song was "originally" released in 1969 by the "first" singer, who is now called Papa Nihil. It was "re-released" in 2019 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary.
The music of Ghost was a bit heavier, grungier, when they started, but as they've evolved and "changed singers" almost every album/tour cycle, they've gotten a little lighter, but still party-rock songs. The mystery of the Nameless Ghouls is a thin veil that's easily pierced, but that's collectively accepted by fans. That's just part of the fun of being a fan. Of course it's not real, but it's a collective, consciously-accepted illusion.
For the real behind the scenes, they're a Swedish band, and the creator, Tobias Forge, has very little accent left. But on-stage, it takes on a flavor very much like the Count from Sesame Street (in my opinion). It's just so damn much fun. The Ghouls are out there having fun on stage, the crowd eats it up. I can't say enough good things about the band, the music, or the live shows.
as far as their general sound, id also say ghost likes to intentionally emulate different forms of music. Seven inches of satanic panic for instance is very clearly emulating music of the 60s/70s. With Impera, it seems it is tackling 80s style stadium rock as a primary influence. As for earlier songs being heavier, thats not untrue, but even in opus eponymous, songs like Elizabeth i wouldnt say are heavy really. For the most part its been kind of a mix through the different albums. People i think expect a black metal sound, though ghost is more so black metal in theme primarily rather than musically.
@@saoliath5000 I absolutely love that about Ghost's music. You can so clearly hear the music that influenced Ghost's sound but they still manage to make original tracks. Tobias really has a talent for that. IMO of course.
@@saoliath5000 For sure, Spillways is a more 80's than anything done in the 80's, lol.
For clarity they've never changed singers. They have changed Papa versions. The singer never changes. Its always Tobias as a new Papa or Cardinal.
@@Rushfan74 thank you. I came to the comments to say just this and you saved me from having to!
"He is" "Call Me Little Sunshine" & "Dance Macabre" are other good choices, Ghost have quite a few great tracks tbf
Square Hammer is also pretty great.
Year Zero!
Kiss the go-goat and spillways too!
Zenith, Ghuleh/zombie Queen, secular haze as well!
Cirice blew up a bit ago too. It’s great to listen to with headphones on. Elizabeth is also a personal deep-dive favourite
My vote goes to "Spillways" for the next Ghost song to react to. They are all really good though...
I agree! Excellent song!!
Maybe even the knew colab version with Joe Elliot.
@@ddavis538 No thanks. I want her to do the original.
Love that song
Omg I love spillways 😭
Swiss, Cumulus and Sunshine always kill it with the backing vocals on this 🖤
The backing vocals are always just incredible!
And Aether Is a multi ghoul
And Cirrus
DEFINITELY do more Ghost! It's a rabbit hole with no return.
If I’m not mistaken, their live performance of Call Me Little Sunshine from the Kimmel Show is nominated for a Grammy if you’re interested in diving into Ghost! As a fellow musician, the complexity of their layers is truly something to behold!
I believe they performed it in the same mausoleum in California that they do the chapters videos in. Gorgeous set honestly .
Interesting note: Tobias Forge, the brains behind this band, says that, originaly, he did NOT want to be the band's vocalist. But after no one expressed enough interest, he decided to do the job himself. Did his original idea involved a "bigger" voice? Maybe by carefully developing and controling his relatively limited instrument, the band gained a sound, identity, and success, that it never would have otherwise? You just can't plan outcomes like that!
Defenitly on my "gotta see them live" list.
definitely recommended it they're amazing live
Tobias Forge is a legitimate genius. His musicianship, his marketing strategy, his theater productions, etc. are all absolutely brilliant. This guy is one of the most talented performers out there right now.
Come on. He took all the classic rock cliches and below average music. That might be cool only for 2022. In 80s or 90s nobody would even notice.
@@sergeyd2199 below average? 😂 what are you smoking
@@riso9059 yes, below average. At first I thought it’s a random 80s rock song from some 3rd-echelon below average rock band who’s name you won’t remember.
@@sergeyd2199 you know nothing of music production🤣
That consonant discussion you had made me think about Swedish. I am Swedish, as is Tobias who sings and writes the songs in Ghost. And Sweden is a powerhouse when it comes to music, its kind of insane how many world famous band that have came from here. And maybe, it has something to do with the melody of the language! Food for thought. Cheers.
I just recently listened to a Swedish musician speak on this topic and he said that the Swedish government used to provide some financial support for young musicians that made it much easier for them to pursue music as a career. Not at all saying you're wrong or that it's the only reason. Just sharing that info.
@@timcleeter7592 Wow, that's an amazing idea! Countries that support their artists end up creating great artists.
@@timcleeter7592They still do
It’s really wild honestly. Your not wrong😹 It’s fun seeing Americans discover Eurovision as well and trying to explain it to them.
You really should react to "He is" by Ghost, their live version for the 2016 Grammys... Amazing ❤️
its so amazing
Goosebumps and tears! That was beautiful ❤
'2016 Grammis'. The 'Grammys' are a US awards show.
I was lucky to see Ghost live in September and it was the greatest show I've ever attended. The sound, the stage, the theatrics. Breathtaking.
My daughter did too it was her first concert experience
Tobias did say that when the song sounds happy, he likes to make the lyrics really dark. So I sometimes find myself in the middle of the grocery, singing happily about my friend death. I love Ghost! 😁
I think one of the ingredients to the Grateful Dead's success, to veer to a different sort of band that is maybe like Ghost in a way, is that so many of their bouncy, happy-ish, and even hooky songs were actually very grim and dark stories. I think you need that contrast to avoid a certain ridiculousness in music.
I discovered these guys opening for Iron Maiden. I had no expectations for them, I was there for the headliner, and after about 3 songs they had my complete attention, and I wanted to hear more. I went out the next day, picked up the CD, and have been hooked since.
People have already covered most of what I have to say about Ghost but I'd like to say that as concert crowds go Ghost fans are some of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of being in a crowd with. I am disabled and everyone was so nice and helpful. I am still impressed by that. I'm looking forward to seeing more Ghost reactions form you. It really helps to take my mind off of the constant pain I'm in for a little while. I'm not trying for sympathy here it is what it is that's life. I just want you to know you made my day a little better. Thank you for the entertainment.
Awesome to hear that the audience was nice and i'm happy for your experience :).
The audience was great when we went, too. A pair of ladies in their 60's sat behind us and chatted with our 8 year old between bands and took our picture for us.
That’s great to hear! I had a similar experience. I have ASD and can get overstimulated when crowds are heavy but all the people around me seemed to notice without me even telling them and gave me the space to enjoy it! I also met a dad taking his daughter to her first concert there. She had little doc Martin’s on. It was a really great time
Even though you mentioned you don't need sympathy from otehers I can somewhat relate to your situation as was at age of 19 in severe car accindent where I broke my wrist, several rib bones and my right leg, especially right knee was completely smashed by instrumen panel of my car. I had medical polaster to that whole leg and I could only move my toes, nothing else... So if a three months perioud semeed to me like a nightmare, I can Imagine your situation. But as point out, many people are still nice and helpful to others no matter what! Nice evening for you!
4:14 the moment she takes in how awesome that second chorus is. Love it
It’s really nice to see you finally gave Ghost a chance. 😁 I recommend their acoustic performances. 😊
If you have Ghost, you have everything
I immediately think of Terzo and kazoo hahaha
🔥If you have ghosts
You have everything ❤️
I’m just happy with you showcasing this band to a different audience Beth who might not have heard them before.
My 14 year old stepdaughter was listening to this song really loudly during her shower, when she came out I asked why she was listening to it. She said it's because it's a cool song and she wants to hear more of their stuff but her mum didn't tell her who it was and had just downloaded it for her. I told her it's Ghost, one of my favorite bands ever and she freaked out going ''EWWWWW no! No, don't like it anymore!'' Hahaha, I've been trying to get her to listen to Ghost for a while but she thinks they are old peoples music because I listen to it. She still likes the song 😄
Now you know she likes them.
Maybe at her birthday give her a Blu-Ray live from same concert and a T-shirt.
Not sure she will appreciate it now, you know, because teenagers.
But in 4-5 years she will for sure treasure it.
🥲 I’m 14. I WORSHIP this band. WHYYY 💔
Old people music??? Blasphemy! I'm 16 and there's tons of other teens in my area that love ghost, especially after Mary on a cross blew up on TikTok
My kids are exactly the same .
i’m 14 and LOVE ghost
I saw Ghost in September and it was honestly the best concert experience I've ever had! You should check out their acoustic performances, especially the harddrive sessions, his voice is beautiful in those!
Me too! Trenton!!
I really don't care what the song's message is if it's satanic or not. All I care about is if it's a good song. And this is a good song
The Ghoulettes are amazing!! I love their voices. They mesh with Papa’s so beautifully.
Ghost's live show is phenomenal...Tobias is a fantastic performer and entertainer!
Above everything else, Tobias is all about everyone having a good time. The songs are very hooky, and made to sing along with. Lyrically, they are smart and mostly satirical. Always fun.
I was on tour with Ghost. I hauled the drums from concert to concert. I also had an All Access Pass.
🖤🖤🖤🖤
A seldom suggested piece of theirs I have is "Darkness at the heart of my love" gives a softer register for Tobias and is a really great musical flavor
Coming from a classically trained musician, you can most certainly tell Tobias has taken vocal lessons over the course of the last couple years. I first really noticed in the live sympathy for the devil video.
He has a beautiful bright tenor range but you can tell he has worked on supporting his lower range. The vowel pronunciation and the placed vibrato really add to it as well. Even though he has a nose injury, he’s really made noticeable improvements in his singing.
Sorry to disappoint you. He spoke about this in a interview with Bandit Rock Radio here in Sweden and he only have taken two. One of them was when he lost his voice and the other one was more a lesson on how your personal life can effect your voice.
Once you start watching ghost content the fans will always support
Close behind Ghost's extraordinary performance is your enthusiasm and how into the song you are. Aaah, yet another soul enthralled with Tobias Forge's genius 🖤✌️ welcome to the club
Ghost is my favorite band , i love their sound and the style they provide is just awesome , that´s the core elemet band are missing this days , love the voice , the piano , the guitars and rythms with the bass lines and drums :0 just amazing. .... .. . .
Seen Ghost 5 times now and I will not stop going. They are brilliant live. Consummate performers
You got Beth to react to Ghost? Amazing guys. Now that we have the foot in the door may I humbly recommend Cirice?
We’re spreading! Now we gotta work on CharasmaticVoice 😂👻🖤
@@BrandonSantiagoOfficial I like the cut of your jib.
As someone who is also new to this band, I can't get enough of them musically
Glamour bands have always interested me with there act put to music. Kiss, The Sensational Alex Harvey band, Alice Cooper, The Tubes, and so many more.
He has such a fantastic rhythm this song is hauntingly beautiful and absorbing. It goes from high-pitched contra tenor to lower bass almost baritone where it slows down..beautiful
Omg, love your energy on this reaction to the beat! ❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your reaction and THIS is exactly how I became a fan. I was watching a video on RUclips and this video from Tampa popped up. I’ve been HOOKED ever since. Cant wait to see Ghost/Tobias in CT come August. 🎉
The most feeling that i get is you know just like taking me back into 80's its really classic

Beth check out "My Heart will go on" cover by CORVYX👍
You should give “Bible” by Ghost a listen too, his voice is so good!
I saw these guys for the first time in Glasgow in 2019. They're the last band I saw pre-COVID. I only knew a handful of their songs and they blew me away. Amazing show. Fabulous musicianship. Recommend: Rats, Square Hammer and Spillways x
Always enjoy your reactions! I love Ghost and I'm glad you've come back to them! Looking forward to more!
Me too!
Didn't expect to see this one. Really really glad you checked this one out, tobias not only sounds fantastic live on this one. But so does his back up singers, particularly the female vocals backing him up they sound fantastic.
I’ve seen them live and they sound great. They have a lot interesting and catchy songs.
Love the channel….keep it up Beth!!
This is probably one of the better music reaction channels I've seen in a while. Straight to the point and not much faffing about to please the algorithm.
I cannot decipher which I love more in this video, the band (I'm a fan), or the way the music hits #BethRoars right in the feels here, 5:43. I'm a proud new Sub.
Well done in every way possible.
Rock on.
One of my favorite bands. So many beautiful amazing songs.
I love watching the reactions on this. It's fun to see visual documentation of somebody becoming a Ghost fan in real-time.
This song rules the heart of every teenagers ❤
..but it's from the late 1960s!! 😛
They are a fun band! Square Hammer is my favorite song of theirs. "Call Me Little Sunshine", "Spillways", and "Cirice" are all great songs you'd have fun reacting to as well.
Loved what you mentioned about stretching out the vowels, totally changed how I listened to this song
I’ve been waiting for this!
My favorite band being reviewed by my favorite vocal coach youtuber 😍😭😭 oh my lil heart string are soo happy right now!❣️
This reaction put a smile to my face. So happy you enjoyed Ghost 🖤
I was at this show! My first time seeing them. I was blown away! One of my favorite bands now! 🤘🏼
I’ve seen Ghost three times and each time has been nothing less than amazing, spectacular, outstanding, etc so many other adjectives! Tobias and the whole band is spectacular! 🖤 I’ve loved them for so long and I’ll continue be a huge fan for life. Tobias the lead singer is also a very genuine person and if anyone ever has the chance to meet him don’t pass it up!🖤
Although I've always loved extreme metal I've become a real Ghost fan through the years and even within their extraordinary catalogue I must say this song really is something else. Every time I hear it, it affects me emotionally and almost on a daily basis. To see how you reacted on this song almost brought me to tears...thx for making that connection.
ya tenía tiempo que no veia clips de este canal, me impresiona el crecimiento profesional de Beth, le deseo buena suerte.
ty beth for that reaction
Brilliant breakdown of one of the catchiest tunes I've ever heard!
I will also say that their albums and their live performances are so different, but yet so captivating and iconic in their own way you could listen to the same song twice, and still be amazed by the difference
I‘ve watched the Tampa Video for like 100 times now and I still can‘t enough of it 🔥
i'm so glad you reacted to ghost! it's such a fun band to listen to!
the arrangement is insanely awesome!!!!!
I've been listening to Ghost since their first album. I'm happy to see them gain mainstream appeal, and more people finding them.
Great review of their work. Glad they made a new fan.
your facial expresions as you hear the song are so telling and reflecting of the deep emotionality of the song, its really something!
I'm a bit of an emotional sponge. A blessing with a tricky to handle side that has taken a bit of work to understand. :)
I was at that show. Great performance, and the vocals are always spot on. Highly recommended.
Thank you Beth. I love ghost, I love this! So fun
Beautiful narrative you bring ty😊
I was at this concert! It was my third time seeing Ghost, second as a headlining act. Their concerts are always fun. They really know how to put on a great live show. Seeing them live is what actually turned me into a fan.
Love your videos, Beth!
he does have a beautiful voice
Seeing them for the 5th time live in August. Absolutely awesome band to see live.
Seen them twice live in London. Absolutely amazing live.
You would totally love Ghost. They're awesome live and lot of fun.
The songs are not overly high and you can actually sing the song with the right notes - really nice to sing along ❤
Got hooked from the first time I heard it
I discovered this song from the TWD shorts on RUclips and now I have their entire Playlist on Spotify. I can't get enough of it
Definitely check out more of their music. They are a very well done piece of performance art. Its basically a 10+ year-long opera. Its amazing.
🎸"If you choose to run away with me, I will tickle you internally. And I see nothing wrong with that." 🎶
I am shamed to admit that I have watched your videous well over a year now, but I keep coming back for two reasons: First, you explain to other mortals what is happenig when someone sings and what makes it great, but also give us a genuine reaction. Thank you Beth! And you are very lovely. My main point here is though letting these mortal feelings flow away from this: There is in music and it's presentation, both by instruments, but more often by the vocalist in best scenario, a deep connection between listener and performer and those feels. Despite of the fact that many people like me concider classical pieces high, something always about human voice as an istrument makes it more real... If it makes any sense and then there are the lyrics too, but the way it is delivered makes the biggest difference. Most moving pieces are those who touch your inner feelings. That is without giving any reply before ofc;)
I f*ckin love this band!
Please do "Spillways" for the next reaction!
Love your videos ❤️
i wish i could see them live sometime to hear this song because its so amazing
I love your content!
Heard them 10 yrs ago....grandson is a drummer and loves them. This song is really good in so many ways. We have a funk group: Here Come the Mummies, who get to Wisconsin every year and you can't get into the park it's so crowded. Yes they are 'mummies' and their music is so good.
Love IT 🖤
Ghost is amazing live! I saw them in Youngstown and every song sounds like it's coming straight from the radio 💗.
Yes!! Please do more Ghost stuff, there is so much going on with their music. They are constantly evolving since their first album and I loved every single one of them. No matter what mood your in, there is a Ghost song for it! :D
You are so smiley. It's infectious! Like and subscribed.
Thank you! 😃
Nice review.. I've never heard anyone break up melodies like u did. It makes people who already like the song to like it more jus like it made me feel. 😃
Hope you really does more ghost songs, theire amazing. Love the video
Amazing reaction!
Thank you!! 😁
Ghost live is fantastic they put on a great show… saw them with Volbeat and it was a great night!
Thank you for reacting to Ghost, they really don't take them to seriously and marry great music to humour and a whole lore build around the main character
His voice is amazing
