    Don’t listen to a YT sales BS rep. Ask the dealer for only what you want. Do not buy what you’re not comfortable buying. If they don’t have it get on the list and piss off to the next dealer. I don’t buy a car when I’m looking for a truck and nor should you!

    Rolex prices are slowly returning to pre pandemic costs. Patience is a virtue at the moment, certain models will always be highly sought after from your AD. Preowned prices are falling slowly.

  • @Audittr2108
    @Audittr2108 Год назад +13

    My local independent Rolex AD retired and the shop closed a few years ago and so my relationship went too. I want a GMT (don’t we all) so decided to play the game. Nearest AD to me was a Goldsmiths over a couple of years bought a couple of other makes which I wanted anyway and also bought a couple of bits of jewellery too. Went on the list in Nov 20 for the GMT and hoped to get the call at some point. Visited the store end of 2022 to check in and found that my history was no longer sufficient for a GMT and the history had to include another Rolex. Goal posts had been moved! The wife had always fancied a Yacht-Master 37mm so put my name down for that. 7 months later I’m still waiting for this and once this wait is over (I’m not holding my breath!) I will then have to wait further for the GMT. It’s the Pepsi I’m after and I guarantee that it will be discontinued before I get the call. Goldsmiths will still have all the money I have spent though so they won’t be too concerned. Funny old game this!

    • @thehonestwatchdealer
      @thehonestwatchdealer  Год назад +4

      Unfortunate your AD retired! And extremely unfair your new one changed the goal posts.
      Unfortunately these are the games you have to play to get your watch from an AD with ever changing rules.
      I hope you get the GMT you want very soon, you’ve more than deserved it by now!

    Really good advice. My AD lost dealership so i lost a 40 year relationship when in hindsight i could have had pretty much any watch. Went to new AD, asked for a steel datejust 41, grey dial, smooth bezel. Seven weeks later its arrived. I love the watch, it fits my collection perfectly and have now started a new relationship with a really nice AD, after i have to say a bit of searching through some appalling attitudes at some AD's.

      Picked up the watch today and AD put me down for a sub and white gold steel dial oyster flex and told me to expect them in a very reasonable time frame ( both less than 12 months). Also bought the wife a beautiful set of diamond earrings which she desperately wanted. He knew my last AD and knew my spend with both Rolex and Porsche but without your advice on the datejust rhodium I don't believe I would be here today. Can't thank you enough for your advice including advising me by telephone to avoid the gold Sky dweller Oyster flex i was offered ( although to big for my wrist). Great channel mate I've put a couple of friends onto you. I hope and believe I'm making another great relationship with a very good and genuine AD. This time I won't take it for granted and will take everything within reason offered. My last AD used to regularly bring out trays of watches but I expected I could always buy what I wanted so passed many times on steel Daytona's and even passed on a Platinum Daytona. Once again thanks. Love your channel so much advice for new people to Rolex and even to us old watch collecctors.

For my part, I love old watches but I want my capital not to depreciate, so I don't want to buy a Rolex for 15k and 10 years later find myself with a watch worth only 7k and I have the impression that the old watches lose their value over time, maybe I'm wrong, what do you think?

    Demand is not as high as the ADs would have us believe. It's just a matter of keeping prices high and continuing to have good margins. If an AD doesn't want my money, I'll go somewhere else. The very idea that you should “ask” for a specific watch that you might not even want is absurd. The market for luxury watches is currently collapsing; prices have been falling for months. Some Rolex models are already available below list price again and this continues.
    My opinion: Nobody should have to beg a dealer to be allowed to buy something at the list price. Anyone who degrades themselves like this deserves to get a watch that they don't really want for too much money.

    That is crazy, I bought my sub date in 2004 in the Bahamas for about 5k US. The wife and I just walked in off the street wearing our swim suits and started browsing over the Rolex watches, the sales person that was assisting us couldn't slap watches on my wrist fast enough, I ended up picking the Sub Mariner Date. The whole process took about an hour and I walked out of the store wearing my new watch. I can't believe you guys go through all of this just for a watch, it is just a bubble and it is going to pop, my advice just wait about another year and you will be able to buy any watch that want when you want it.

    I’ll be honest 1 year ago I walked into my AD with 0 buying history and asked for a yacht master 40 blue dial
    Never heard from them for like half a year (assuming I wouldn’t ever again at that point)
    My mother went in dressed in traditional Asian clothes saying she wanted to get it me as a gift for graduating (without telling me) and apparently really hit it off with the AD talking about the troubles of raising kids etc and difficulties being a mother lol (I wasn’t that bad)
    Low and behold 2 months after my mum gets a call saying the watch is in , my mum rings me telling me she managed to get it and we went in together with 0 previous history and got a stainless steel yacht master as the first watch
    I say this to say that it may not always be buying history , often times it’s a genuine human story and a desire for the waych that can make it enough to be possible for them , I think they screen their customers and the customers intentions and judge based on that if they want to sell to you
    I know the yacht master isn’t necessarily most popular model so maybe that’s why I was slightly lucky but she sent started talking about future watches with me etc so I I’m sure character and the way you connect with them has a big impact
    Hope this helps anyone currently trying today !
