    If you’re ‘here for some beautiful bassy goodness’ then you are missing out big time by not listening to Avi Kaplan’s music. These two guys are covering his songs as a tribute. As they say - “Hail to the bass god the great Avi.”

    This video made me so happy. I could tell that, a few times during the video, you got so lost in the music you forgot about your audience. I mean this in the best way possible, of course. As a person with ADHD and autism, watching your happy stimming on camera, in front of an audience of thousands, is something that brought me so much joy and made me happy stim myself. The section starting at 15:11 actually brought tears to my eyes. The music, combined with your speechless pantomine of pure joy, created one of the most beautiful things I have seen on RUclips in a long, long time. I have NEVER had the self-confidence to stim in front of ANYONE, because mental health and mental illness was stigmatized so much in my family that even to this day I struggle to unmask in public. I know you've been praised in the past for creating awareness and representation for people like us, but Mortius, you have to understand. You make me aspire to have your self-confidence and challenge my own preconceived notions of what I am allowed to be.

      I just discovered this channel, but you've *nailed* why I like it here, and why I'm now devouring so many of Mortius' videos. (That, plus they're good. Plus the autistic thing of 'something is good? Ah, I want to now pursue ALL OF IT IMMEDIATELY.)
      But seriously - the value in seeing someone enjoy themselves in these ways without self-censoring is truly life-changing. I only figured out this autism Dx in my 40's, and I feel like I've got so much catching up to do. Seeing your genuine reactions makes me feel a lot freer, and it gives me hope that all of my instinctive masking isn't quite as entrenched as it feels.

    This was a fantastic reaction/analysis to an amazing medley of songs showcasing the brilliant song writing of Avi, vocals of Efe and Tomi; and arranging, editing and mixing skills of Tomi. Loved every second of this video - so entertaining. But just wait for what is still to come from Tomi (and the rest of The Bass Gang). They’re just warming up.

    How have you not followed Avi’s solo work! OMG! You HAVE to hear “When I’m a Fool” off Avi’s latest album Floating on a Dream, released May 20. Avi’s chocolatey bass, triple-layered! And “Change on the Rise” - Avi’s lead track is a little higher, but it’s all his own vocals, including the deep bass track under it all. And “Full Moon” off the I’ll Get By EP!

    Something that I think you touched on here (and I definitely reciprocate with) is that this is the PARADIGM of how to showcase an incredible bass arrangement without just throwing in random growls and subharmonics. Nothing over-the-top or flashy, just an incredible arrangement and an unbelievable all-around experience.

    You don't follow Avi but you like basses? That's very odd. Avi is the first composer to write music for these singers since Johnny Cash. The Bass Nation loves Avi. All bass singers around the world do as well. Time for you to catch up. Try "First Place I Go" that's pretty bassy.
    Avi made a cover of Lean On Me as he cancelled tour and went into quarantine dedicating the profits to the Equal Justice Intitative.
    Avi writes original songs. All the rest of this but Lean On Me are Avi's original compositions.

    Would you really put them in the same category as geoff Castellucci ? They are great but i believe he showcases the bass skill better than anyone , But this is why i watch your channel you respect opinions and this is only my opinion :) and as you say music is subjective :)

    • @joeswanson7634

      I think what he means is Geoff is the best yes but he dosent use pure bass in the sense that he sings higher and uses lots of high notes and high instruments whereas this is the best showcase of everything bass there's no crazy high notes it's all bass just bass SUB-harmonics growls Fry's everything just bass . So I think that's what he means by best bass showcase

      I am purely discussing arrangement/performance, not artist, if that makes sense lol. I think this arrangement and video do a better job at highlighting, and *celebrating*, the bass voice, than anything else I’ve seen in the last year or more

    • @lkayh
      @lkayh 2 года назад +1

      @@officialmortius Tomi’s arrangements are out of this world. And I agree-the way Tomi wrote this, and the blend of his voice with Efe’s-I really hope they do a lot more together because this is fabulous.
      And yes, Avi did a cover of Lean On Me. The original was by Bill Withers. (I had the honor of meeting Mr. W. many years ago-one of his roadies asked me if I had ever heard of him and I said “no,” and he laughed. A few days later I saw him on TV performing this song. Headsmack. 🥴)
