Vikings has these stand out moments of poignancy and this is definitely one of them, again - elevated by a fantastic score but there is something about this battle, there is an overshadowing sense of meaningless death and slaughter. Looks at Lagertha and smiles, somehow forgets he's in the middle of the battlefield and because of that he gets stabbed.
    He is in a bad condition and starts screaming only attracting more enemies, now he gets shot by arrows.
    Starts screaming Lagertha again and attracts another enemy, leading in him getting stabbed in the back once more.
    Finally dies. Great scene amazing death.

    Heahmund was such a badass that they buried his sword with him which is pretty cool cuz his sword is the only unique sword I saw (at least from my memory) in the show since everybody else carried random weapons. But his sword was described as being very high quality and had a nice handle

    • @BackyardWrestlingFai
      @BackyardWrestlingFai 3 года назад +1

      The sword was undoubtedly expensive and revered being the blade of a bishop. I think it's very fitting that Ivar first took the blade from Heahmund and despite remarking on its craftsmanship, gives it back since it is best used in Heahmund's hands.

    • @ConstantineJoseph
      @ConstantineJoseph 2 года назад +1

      You know something, the sword back in the Viking age or even the Roman age or the Medieval age was a VERY VERY expensive piece of equipment.
      One would compare the price to a modern Ferrari or a Lamborghini in today's world. Heahmund's sword was probably immensely well crafted probably overseas by the Franks as they were the best sword craftsmen in Western Europe. The very best "Frankish swords" typical swords of that era, had better craftsmanship and were stronger than the average sword.
      That said, Heahmund's sword would be worth a few supercars or a yacht in comparison as he was a person in high office in Wessex's clergy.
      Usually swords, armor and shields were passed down from generation to generation, while Heahmund is a bishop, that weaponry would be passed down to the next bishop for emergency usage. However to have it buried with Heahmund, is a sign of great honor to Heahmund as those weapons are incredibly expensive. It was befitting as you said.

    After all these years I'm just getting around to watching Vikings. I like many of you were captivated by such a character. Such a formidable swordsman and man of god cannot help but be captivating for he represents the noble qualities of men despite our obvious weaknesses and flaws. It seems to me that at the time of his death he no longer has the dIvine protection of the Lord. The cause for that is his love of Lagertha and at the end he calls out her name rather than makes whatever peace he can with god. Indeed no one else could be fit to carry his sword. Johnathan Rhys Meyers was absolutely brilliant in this role.
