Four years ago at Michigan, SMB did one of the best renditions of an MCU arrangement. Any chance you will do another Marvel show this year with Portals?
Can anyone answer this? I watched the drum line from 2012, and a couple of people left comments saying it "was dirty for a college drumline", and it lacked heart, or something like that, and someone commented on the person who gave the command to start them off, saying that she had the effect of making them seem "Special." I didn't play at the college level, and it wasn't with the percussion so I didn't "get" those comments. They seemed baseless to me. Can anyone who's truly knowledgeable help me out with understanding what they were talking about? Was the feedback accurate, or were they just trolling?
I’d say a little bit of both. MSU is on another level compared to most drumlines in the state, but these videos are taken very early in the season, and they refine their playing as the season progresses. Some trolling, some are not. Later in the season they give some drum corps a run for their money. By dirty they can be referring to stick heights, dynamics, technique, etc. The fact they can play at this level with a few days in the summer and a week before band camp is a testament to their musicianship and dedication. The person that starts them off is the center snare, usually the most senior snare or the best in playing ability. The centers in the 2012 and 2019 takes both did drum corps- basically professional marching band.
@@AskChristopherP omg--thanks for seeing and replying! How cool! These videos are so old, I didn't know if anyone would end up reading my questions. I thought the 2012 line gave 2019's a little run for their money. At least the snares. Of course, I'm totally not qualified to make an assessment that is fair, they weren't recorded identically, and I HATE trolls... 😖 Anyways, thanks again! 👊🏽
Anne, of course! I played snare for SVSU and I’m transferring to MSU or CMU for their drumlines. MSU blows us away 😂. It’s more of a yearly hobby than a persuit of excellence here. I’m by no means an expert either. Like I said they are some of the best drummers in the state, and their instructor Jon Weber pushes them hard. If you aren’t familiar with drum corps, check out Blue Devils 2017- metamorph. Brandon Olander is a snare legend. Carolina Crowns horn line, and Santa Clara Vanguards drumline is incredible. I actually prefer the audio on the 2012 version, but the 2019 audio is more...flat? Clean? That’s the best way I can describe it
That's what I like about University Marching Bands and Drumlines. They look like they have so much fun!
Awesome line💪🏽
Love it!
