richard's turn into gabriel is fantastic and i LOVE that he's so different from both lucifer and raphael in how he talks and comports himself. despite his rambunctious sense of humor, he comes off as quieter and morose once everything is out there, his emotions are closer to the surface, maybe due to his close proximity to humans and pagans all these millennia. he's honestly so fascinating as a character
I actually found it very interesting that such a cosmic event was reduced to a very grounded, sad and relatable issue as toxic family dynamics and how much it affects the neutral family member. At the end of the episode I felt really bad for Gabriel and felt his need to avoid the trauma he experienced.
I feel like that's something that Supernatural does very well. Like, yes, we are talking about angels and demons, big things in regards to religion and stuff, but they break it down to a level people can relate to it (even if it sometimes takes a while to grasp what's going on). I feel like there are viewers out there that can relate to both brothers issues with their dad, both brothers feeling overwhelmed by this weight on their shoulders. Or they can relate to Sam feeling really bad about something he feels guilty about and just wanting to be a good person. Or Dean feeling like he just wants to protect his little brother, but being unable to so. I think that people who deal with similar issues ( even though those may have less apocalyptic consequences) really draw inspiration from these two brothers or other characters who they see themselves in. I feel like people have said this before, but I also think that that's the reason this show lasted as long as it did.
We're in the big boy leagues of power now. Gabriel is insanely powerful - by far the most powerful they've faced up until this point of the show, but even he is a small fish comparatively. I love Gabriel's "ultimate neutrality" stance - how he just wants to live and have fun and not deal with all the fighting all the time. Gabriel is the archangel that represents humanity in that way. He's more like us than any of the others.

I love the end of the episode where the writers just layout everything. You can basically hear Kripke saying "Okay you morons, for anyone who hasn't caught the subtext..." Michael/Dean is the good son, Sam/Lucifer is the rebellious son, etc. And I do appreciate Gabrielle's speech about the upcoming war. It fits someone stuck in a dysfunctional family, not caring who's right, just wanting the argument to end.
Gabriel is one of the most intriguing characters to me, the big reveal was perfect- probably the most flawless one in the show. Didn’t expect it at all myself the first time.
This is definitely one of my most rewatched episodes of the series. You can really tell how much fun J2 had filming this and I thoroughly enjoy their more comedic episodes. But the ending, with the Gabriel reveal just levels up the whole narrative for me! Not only for this season and the insights it gives us to Sam & Dean and the angels, but also for the series up to this point. The family dynamics of it all, yeesh. Sooo many layers in that conversation. This means that the Winchesters have been tangling with angels since mid-season 2! Really, really solid episode. Loved you reaction!!
[Don't worry. No spoilers.] The good thing is you will get constantly new information regarding the lore of Supernatural. Remember in season 1: Demons appeared only occasionally. Sam and Dean considered them as something which is out of their league (epispde 1x6). Then they (and we as the audience) learned more and more. In season 2 angels were mentioned but still a myth, same with God. In Season 3 Lucifer is mentioned but also still a myth (nobody has actually seen him). Then we have season 4 and 5 with further new informaton. And this will continue over coming seasons. You will learn more an more about the things you heard in that episode as well as previous episodes. And yes, Gabriel or more specifically archangels are insanely powerful. Normal angels are to them like humans to normal angel plus 1000 times stronger. This i's why Michael and Lucifer could destroy the world during a battle against each other.
One of my favourite episodes of the entire show. Not only is it funny and goofy, but it develops the story so much at the end. The spoofs of CSI Miami got me so bad aswell as the genital herpy advertisement and greys anatomy 😂😂
The best trick The Trickster ever played was *not* being a trickster~~~~^.^ I'm sure somebody mentioned it, but now if you go back and watch Mystery Spot again it paints the whole episode in a new light~ It will mess you up, in the best way!
Yeah the great part about Kripkes 5 season planned arc is there is certainly hints dropped about things. If you watch the old trickster episodes you can kinda see it in a new way.
Absolutely right. You can see where Gabriel decides he might can take the wheel and steer the timeline away from the looming Apocalypse through Sam, and this episode is the follow-up to that failure to do so. The Trickster Arc is the best arc.

Hi! This is one of my favourite episodes, I've been waiting for you to see this one! The clues about Gabriel were around since hid first episode, but you can't see them until after this one! For example, the stake never kills him, even when you're SURE they got the real him! I'll bet they had so much fun this episode, I love Greys and CSI, and my other half almost leapt out his chair when Sam became the Knight Rider car! And, yeah, when you look back it means that old yellow eyes must have known who they were as well and Sam really was the 'one' all along! All the others were just there to test the pair of them and kick start everything!

When Dean was dead for 6 months and Sam turned to the terminator. The way the “trickster” was tossing Cas around made it pretty obvious he was weigh too powerful to be a trickster. An archangel would be able to do that easily to a lower level Angel, I guess it makes sense. Enjoyed the reaction very much!

When I was like around 4 or 5 my mom and dad would argue with each other every weekend for reasons I was too young to remember and understand. The yelling became too much sometimes that I'd just shut myself in the bedroom until they stopped. "Heaven(mom), Hell(dad), I don't care who wins! I just want it to be over!"
"I have so many shows I would like to see.." Something so many of us thought. Yet how many saw night rider coming, or that it would take such a serious turn towards the central plot. Perfectly played.
Wow. I love what you're wearing and your nails look amazing. Anyhow, yes, this was a good episode. This was their way of adding new, fun twists to the show and was what kept the show going as long as it did. They were willing to take a lot of risks and it paid off.

WOW! I mean that is one of many things I can say about this episode and that this truly is a fine example of why Season 5 has been the best year of Supernatural. I should have realized it when The Trickster wasn't given a name, Bobby listed two examples of such from West African and Norse lore but we never knew which trickster he was. And then of course was that he didn't actually die both times we saw him. I just didn't realize, heck I don't think everyone else realized just how important he really was. The Archangel Gabriel. It makes sense when you process what he told the boys. As an archangel, he's more powerful than all the other soldier angels who rely on being connected to Heaven's power. Just as Zachariah set up a fictional life for Sam and Dean as a corporate employee and tech support, Gabriel can manifest food and people - by the way an AWESOME power! Fine dining and even FINER women. And of course time travel, Mystery Spot with all those Groundhog Day time loops was just his time traveling and resetting time. I also get Gabriel's perspective. He loved his family but you cannot be neutral if you want a war to end, you just can't. In his own way, he's been doing his father's work in his guise as a Pagan god. Judging the high and mighty with deadly pranks. Ever since he first crossed paths with the boys I understand now that he's been trying to test them. And the Mystery Spot episode? He wanted to show Sam that he had to accept not just losing his brother but learning how to cope with it. With Gabriel being the angel on his shoulder Sam didn't become tempted by Ruby. I'll go so far as to say without that temptation this led the rest of the other Angels to be forced to save Dean, because without a corrupted Sam they knew even if they broke the first Seal, breaking the last one was impossible. Maybe if Sam accepted this instead of bringing his brother back at the end of the episode, the Apocalypse would never have happened. And now this episode. I can definitely see why Gabriel says no to the boys' request. They started the Apocalypse, it is their responsibility. If Dean didn't resurrect Sam, Lilith wouldn't be walking free. If Sam only let Dean die or didn't allow himself to be corrupted by Ruby, the seals wouldn't have broken. The world faces destruction because these two are too selfish to live without each other. But if he can help but won't it is because Dean is right. Gabriel is being a coward. The well-written drama aside, I also appreciate the format of using TV shows as Gabriel's way of testing the boys. It sort of reminded me of the Marvel series WandaVision paying tribute to sitcoms. This paid tribute to sitcoms, dramas, game shows, and commercials. Oh, and I do like how it appears that Sam in this episode as well as the last episode seems to be on the receiving end of STDs. The Clap and now genital herpes? My guess is it's his penance for being with Ruby.
This is one of the best episodes in Supernatural, imo (one of the few shows that actually got away with 'filler' eps, if you could even call it that)! On an unrelated note, if you'd like a really great show to react to with incredibly witty and hilarious dialogue, I'd recommend Succession! The cast is phenomenal!! Seriously underrated, but it's been getting all the awards, haha! 😂

This episode is one of the best, for so many reasons. The only disappointing thing about it is, when Sam heard that there was a roll of coins in the guys throat, he didn't say "Change is hard to swallow".
In my mind, I imagine the word STORY ARC in a walking/talking animation...School House Rock style. I imagine it kicking down the door of the writers room and saying, "BOOM! I'M HERE, BITCHES!" That's how I see this episode, when I first saw it. I had a feeling about the brothers as vessels bit, but I was surprised about the prophecy about being the endgame, from the very beginning of time. Lots of juicy stories.

Archangels are Heaven's most terrifying weapons as Castiel told Dean in The Monster At The End Of This Book. So that alone should tell you how powerful Gabriel, Raphael, Lucifer & Michael (who is the strongest of the 4) are.
Well, it's obvious he's telling the truth. 1. Castiel called him Gabriel 2. He was stuck in the holy fire 3. He was FAR more powerful than Cas, so he's definitely an archangel.

Yes it was only intended by Kripke to be the five season arc. The first fine seasons were perfect with a great ending. However, there are some great episodes and storylines in 6-15 and I’m glad Jensen and Jared go to keep working and having fun on a show they loved.
I love the bit in “Dr. Sexy MD” about the ghost in the mind of one doctor, because that character in Grey’s Anatomy was played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan

I have many favorite episodes of spn but this one is up there 100%. Gabriel is one of my top 3 fave characters, the absolute best.

This episode is one of the best, for so many reasons. The only disappointing thing about it is, when Sam heard that there was a roll of coins in the guys throat, he didn't say "Change is hard to swallow".

I had a feeling about the brothers as vessels bit, but I was surprised about the prophecy about being the endgame, from the very beginning of time. Lots of juicy stories.

Archangels are Heaven's most terrifying weapons as Castiel told Dean in The Monster At The End Of This Book. So that alone should tell you how powerful Gabriel, Raphael, Lucifer & Michael (who is the strongest of the 4) are.

The show really is two seperare shows with seasons 1-5 and 5-15. I watched till the end but season 5 is definitely a fine ending.
Yes it was only intended by Kripke to be the five season arc. The first fine seasons were perfect with a great ending. However, there are some great episodes and storylines in 6-15 and I’m glad Jensen and Jared go to keep working and having fun on a show they loved.
I think Dean is wrong about this considering that he was part of the problem
