    The medical drama is a parody of Grey's Anatomy. The "ghost character" Dean was referring to in Dr. Sexy, MD was parody of the "ghost character," Denny Duquette in Grey's Anatomy who was portrayed by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and we all know he’s the actor who plays the boys' father, John Winchester.
    Dr. Sexy, MD was also mentioned in The Monster at the End of This Book by the book publisher who said that it was this kind of stuff that sold now, not the Supernatural series.
    The Winchester Brothers' sunglasses-fiddling antics and successive one-liners in the crime investigative drama segment parody CSI: Miamis Horatio Caine character to hilarious effect.
    The last TV show parodied was Knight Rider.

      I love that they got I sported by that show haha, and even better that they added the character that is played by the same actor as their father!
      I did not make that connection but that is such a neat detail to have had the show mentioned before this episode 👀
      I thought it would have had to be a show like CSI, it’s funny how much inspiration they seem to have taken from real specific shows and characters in them. I didn’t think there was a show like the last one but now I’ll have to look that up haha!

    Not-so-fun fact: On the episode where the Trickster made his first appearance (I think, maybe it was the second), there was someone in the comments 'correcting' you that the Trickster was actually the archangel Gabriel, and several people were responding asking him why he was telling you that and advising you not to read too far down in the comments as there was a spoiler.

    This is a huge hit with the fans, often listed as one of the top ten episodes, especially out of the the first five seasons. **So the reference to the "sixty-four dollar question" comes from a very early game show in the 1950's. **Dr. Sexy comes from the long running show (20 years and still going) Grey's Anatomy. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (John Winchester) was in this show in a recurring role for several seasons.
    **In the japanese game show, it makes sense that Dean could play the role better than Sam because as we all know, Dean watches anime porn so in my opinion, he has definitely heard some of the language enough to put a short sentence together even though the risk was 50/50% that he would get it right as a yes/no answer. **The talking car show was a take on Knight Rider. A series that ran maybe 4 - 5 seasons in the early 1980's with a guy fighting crime in his AI super car. It was pretty popular for a while. Oh, the police procedural was CSI:Miami, first spin-off series from CSI. Sam was imitating the character Horatio Cain. And yes, it was one of those very stylized shows from early... 2002.
    ***Richard Speight Jr., (the Trickster) started as an actor on Supernatural and ended up as one of it's directors over the last five seasons of the series.
    So glad you enjoyed this episode. We have some amazing and rough ground to cover this season. Remember, originally, Kripke meant for this to be the final season. ✨

    • @CoraReacts
      @CoraReacts  Месяц назад +1

      I totally understand why this is such a fan favourite, it a fun episode with so many twists and also a HUGE twist at the end. 🙌
      I thought the 60-dollar question was a reference to something haha! I haven’t watched Greys Anatomy but some tiger doctors shows which made it extremely funny, but it’s even funnier knowing their dad plays a role in that show!😂
      I’ll admit I forgot about all the stuff Dean watches but I guess it would make sense if he picked up a few lines. At least for saying the answer, I guess I might have guess an answer without undertaking what the host said, but how Sam saved Dean is a tricker one to untangle! I got the CSI show even though I didn’t know of the character but the car I totally missed, had no idea that was a show!
      I love that the actors ends up still being a part of the show and writing it! I don’t really know why it’s relevant to know this was meant to be the last season however as it sets un-necessary expectations on the rest of the show.

    Loved your puzzled expression at the beginning of the episode! Now I think you can understand why quite a few people are fans of this particular episode. I think you missed the reference to _Supercar_ / _Knight Rider_ at about 28:40?
    Fun parts of the episode aside, I've always found Gabriel's comment near the end ( _"I wish this were a TV show. Easy answers, endings wrapped up in a bow. But this is real. And it's gonna end bloody for all of us. That's just how it's gotta be."_ ) ... very wistful, because sometimes that's just how life goes, without being able to do much about it. 4:08 - Even with your note in the upper right, I feel compelled to correct you here. Dean's supposed to be 30. He cashes out 25 years for Bobby. He then loses another 25 in the game. We don't get a 55-year-old Dean. He's around 80. And my most sincere apologies for being so pedantic.
    I didn't have a lot to say about this one. Oh, I could have pointed out the things that you may have missed, but this episode was so incredibly creative that I was distracted. Turning Baby into KITT from the show "Knight Rider," with Sam as the voice of the talking car! Talking about "the Incredible Hulk" TV show that I obsessed over as a kid! Using the font from "Full House" for the opening credits! From start to finish, the episode was amazing, and one of the few I could re-watch over and over again just for the fun of it. Glad you had fun too, Cora! 😊

      @CoraReacts  Месяц назад

      I know that hence the message. I don’t see the reason to correct me when I’ve already corrected myself? 🥲 the actors also didn’t look 80 in my eyes, and me forgetting that he cashed out 25 is why I thought he was 55 (30+25).
      It’s a really good episode! There is so many details it feels impossible to catch them all on the first watch. I had no idea there was a show with a car like that haha🙈 I loved this episode and I’m glad so many others seemed to love it too!

  • @nightwingman666
    @nightwingman666 2 месяца назад +4

    Yeah one of the more interesting episodes.
    As an avid TV watcher the parodies to other shows was hilarious. ‘Dr.Sexy’ was a parody to Greys Anatomy. There apparently really is a Japanese game show where you need to recite a tongue twister properly otherwise you get hit in the soft spot. And the corny jokes and sunglass cop show was a nod to CSI Miami which was notoriously known for that schtick. Sam as the talking car was reference to a show called Knight Rider, a show my late grandfather adored I remember when I first saw this he was excited at the reference.
    But the real surprise was the trickster was actually the archangel Gabriel and that all this time he’s been playing the brothers into apocalypse. Dean did make valid points he was too afraid to confront his family that he compensates in messing with others he was right to call him out on that.
    Sam and Dean’s reflection in the end was very introspective and so true to life. In TV there are happy endings in real life not so much.

    • @CoraReacts
      @CoraReacts  Месяц назад

      Truly fun episode! Watching parodies is pretty funny, and even funnier when they are in a show you’re already watching. I love how much inspiration they took from real shows. Although I haven’t watched any of them I can see it. The last one was something I didn’t realise was actually I sported by a real show however but I’ll have to look that up now!
      This twist was one of the best ones, up until this point I didn’t suspect anything at all, it was only later in the episode that things started to seem fishy so it was such a brilliant turn of events. I really liked Deans speech. There was much truth in it and you could see that he knew what he was talking about.
      I think a lot of us wished to be in tv series sometimes, where everything turns out okay!

      @@CoraReacts Most of those TV shows were already stale by the time this episode aired so you’re not missing much. As for Gabriel it makes sense seeing the mess his family is his brothers fighting while God just disappeared powerless to do anything about it so he exerts his power on beings weaker than him just for his own amusement. Deane as right to call him out on it.

  • @nm2358

    I think one of my favorite bits about the Trickster reveal here was looking back at Mystery Spot in season 3.
    When they initially run into the Trickster he's telling them he has a wife named Amelia and that he sells ad space for radio, which Jimmy Novak's (Castiel's vessel) past. So one can't help but feel Kripke is already seeding this reveal in "the Vessel" in season 4.
    This reveal later in Season 5 finally gives us the viewer an idea of why the Trickster was trying to get Sam to give up / leave Dean to his fate for that entire episode: He's trying to prevent the Apocalypse.
    Kripke and the producers must have really liked the initial Trickster episode to put that much work into writing these narrative threads into what was a monster of the week episode at the time.

      Oh gosh I didn’t not remember that! That’s a neat little thing planted already in season four, or used as it afterwards. It’s so subtle but effective. They did such a good job knitting this web together with so many details, I love it!👏

    META TIME
    I think we all love trickster/Gabriel.
    So much pop culture in this one... the shows they were poking fun at:
    Generic sit coms,
    Grey's Anatomy (hospital show that's still making new episodes),
    Miami Vice (Jared was doing the main character in that one (David Caruso))
    and Knight Rider, where the car was a character, Kit.. that one starred David Hasselhof.
    Dean hates procedural cop shows.. Jensen's getting ready to be the lead in a new one.
    Little thing I notice every time I watch that last scene in the warehouse.. the guy-liner on Dean. I don't know if they had totally switched from painting the boys to digital make up but this one.. it's noticeable.
    On this side of the pond, the letter Z is pronounced zee - long E sound so the motel with the picture of that flower, a daisy, used the Z instead of the S.
    No Zeds..

    One of my favorite of the funny episodes from supernatural
    The opening credits share a font style with Full House
    A comedy show that started in 1987.
    The Impala is partially 'transformed' Into KITT from Knight Rider (1982). While on the road, the scene comes complete with the Knight Rider theme tune.
    They were imitating The actor David Caruso's character from Csi: Miami when they were cops with sunglasses, and the end is quite ironic with Dean saying i wish i was in a tv show😅😅😅
    And Now we now that why the trickster is so powerful. He is the Archangel Gabriel.
    This episode is a 10 out of 10 for me. So many references to tv series from my youth.

    Gabriel was always Gabriel, I don't want to divulge more because they do reveal how he took on the role of the Trickster later but he was always an archangel. The other archangel they trapped earlier in the holy oil was Raphael, who of course is Gabriel's, Michael's & Lucifer's brother and the 4 of them are the 4 archangels who are the most powerful angels ever created. Raphael was the one in charge of protecting Chuck and the one who scared off Lilith and at the end of season 4 killed Castiel when he was with Chuck & sent Dean to stop Sam from killing Lilith in Lucifer Rising (of course Dean was too late).
    As Cas said in The Monster At The End Of This Book, they are Heaven's most terrifying weapons and a stake would never kill one. They can bend reality to make it whatever they want like we saw Gabriel do to Sam & Dean when he put them in the time loop in Mystery Spot and how Sam & Dean were put in that company as Sam Wesson & Dean Smith with their memories wiped. I'm not sure if that was Zachariah's doing or if Michael, who is Zachariah's boss did that remotely (he would certainly be able to being the oldest & most powerful of the 4 archangels) with Zachariah dealing with them on a personal level. Zachariah is strong, but my guess is he's not strong enough to alter perception at all or to the extent we saw in the episode The End (where Dean gets taken to that version of 2014 where Sam said yes to Lucifer & 2014 Dean was searching for the Colt to kill him) was a false reality instead of an actual future.

    Another great thing about this episode is how it sets up the parallel between Dean with Michael & Sam with Lucifer and how it's a tale of a dutiful son & rebellious son who are brothers and puts that parallel on a cosmic scale that traces to the first creations of God, the archangels. Except of course we see differences between Sam & Dean and how they come together to fight destiny vs. Lucifer & Michael who embrace destiny. There are details that hint that Michael & Lucifer's destiny may not have been what they were making everyone believe when you see how everything goes down by the end of the season, but I won't say anything about that to avoid spoiling anything at this time. I'll try to explain what I mean after you watch Swan Song if I remember to. In the meantime enjoy the ride that is the amazing 5th season because this is the absolute best of the series.

    The first hint was that the "Trckster" could just beam Cas away who is an ANGEL. He also almost killed him which is ... let's say not easy. And no, he was never a trickster (makes also no sense because it was always the same character).
    I also get the impression that she didn't know most the TV shows like CSI, Grey's A. or Night Rider (to be fair, she seems very young)
    Random fact: The are only 4 archangels.

    • @CoraReacts
      @CoraReacts  Месяц назад

      Yeah that was strange, but then again they did say that truckers were powerful so I wouldn’t have been to surprised if they could remove angels! I meant as in if he would have used a trickster body sort of. I think it was always the same person in the show, but since he showed up he could have technically done that. It was just a theory as they haven’t actually talked about how it all really works🤷🏼‍♀️
      She also didn’t watch those, thank you for thinking I’m young lol. I unfortunately just happen to be the Captain America of the internet and live under a rock ✌️ maybe it also my imperfect English giving that impression?
      Yes!! I wonder if we’ll meet them all eventually 👀

    An extremely funny😂 episode! One of my favorites. The TV-Program the boys took part in is between Dr. Sexy MD and the Japanese game show. Seeing Dean fanboying over Dr. Sexy made me laugh so hard. I never caught any gay/bisexual vibes from this scene (I’m a bisexual woman myself). Since Dean is a playboy he looks up to this character in a platonic way and aspires to be like him. My brother fanboys and gets all bashful (he’s straight) whenever he meets famous wrestlers and takes pictures with them. There is a small but loud percentage of fans in the fandom that like to run with that idea.

      I loved it 😂 it’s hard to choose one because they played their parts so well and the confusion mixed in to it all was hilarious! Fan boy Dean was perfect, totally caught me off guard. I didn’t get any of those vibes either but it was funny nonetheless! Whichever way it is I think it was perfect and the way Dean knew so much was really fun!
