  • According to newly released government data, the carbon tax will cost the economy approximately $25 billion by 2030, a fact which the Liberals have been quick to try and cover up. Canadian Taxpayers Federation Alberta director Kris Sims joined True North’s Andrew Lawton to discuss the potential implications for Canadian businesses and consumers.

If I hear this one more time, "8 out of 10 people".
Again, if you keep repeating it enough times people will actually believe you!!
So again are you telling me, this current Liberal government is lying to Canadians.
    Oh the shock!!

Add it to the brainwashing mantras like "2 weeks to stop the spread". We are in the era of carefully crafted lie/slogans rolled out regularly by governments. Watch out for that "global boiling" too!

It’s simple to me. And a very easy formula to use. All this deep elaborate thinking, and all the math and conversation, creates my simplistic resolution.
People complain and carry on and on with the answers, but to myself they still seem cockeyed and penalizing to demographics of Canadian people.
I hope one day this country can get money into Canadian people’s pockets and give them expendable money. That would bring some happiness, to all sectors of people.

I’d still like to see research about how much more people inevitably must commute for work when cost of living is high. In good times, you can work part time at the store up the street while living with roommates. In hard times, you NEED to work for a certain wage and pursue it out of your neighbourhood.

  • @andrewbaldwin4454

Good episode, Andrew. The Liberals are looking at the backup tax in terms of the definition of a fully rebated tax, where every dollar taxed from households is returned to them in the form of Justin Bucks. How close the Liberal backup tax comes to satisfying this, for the household sector in general, and for groups of households, is a subject of interest. This is also reasonably easy to evaluate. When you talk about the economic cost of the Liberal backup tax to the economy, this is really a different, and more complicated analysis. It really doesn’t relate to how close the tax comes to being fully rebated. Looking at the loss in real GDP with a price standard of 2017 over the entire economy gives one only an approximate estimate of the cost to households, since GDP has other sectors besides the household sector. The Liberals have been very poor in Question Period in defending against Conservative attacks on this point. They just keep repeating their 80% line, without acknowledging that the Conservatives have a good argument, but that their stats related to all sectors of the economy rather than just the household sector.

As much as I hate to say it, we have to consider the fact that much of the goods we buy in Canada comes from China one of the highest carbon emmiters in the world.
It can be argued that their carbon emissions are increased due to the demand for products made there.
If these goods were produced in Canada our carbon production would be increased.
Carbon tax will do nothing to reduce carbon levels however reducing the amount of goods we consume, clothes, computers, furniture etc.. would help reduce worldwide carbon emissions.

  • @Snowdog070

CO2 is NOT the control knob for global warming but even if you think it is how can you justify a carbon tax on human emissions when humans only contribute 2% of the CO2 in the atmosphere and the "Keeling Curve" (the measure of CO2 in the atmosphere over time) is going up, up, up. The oceans contain 45-50 times more CO2 than the atmosphere. CO2 is the reason life exists on earth. Canadians need to recall their basic, high school science.
