- Another international trip for Justin Trudeau and another international embarrassment.
Since landing in Washington for the 75th anniversary of the NATO alliance, Justin Trudeau and his Liberal cabinet has been dogged by questions from journalists about Canada’s failure to adequately fund our national defence. And the attacks aren’t just coming from the media, even US representatives are calling on Canada to pull its weight.
In truth, it isn’t just Trudeau’s fault. Under Stephen Harper, Canada’s military spending was less than 1% of our GDP, today that number is around 1.3%. Military spending has increased but it is well short of where it needs to be.

Whilst that is true, we got there at the end of the war, there were very little left of other military forces....the need for a strong military is and is always a high priority given all we have to protect in Canada.....it should always be Canada first....

I guess we need more "climate friendly" military equipment. Electric armored personnel carriers, tanks, and navy vessels. Of course wind/solar powered charging stations will be required on the battlefield. Gunpowder emits CO2, so all artillery pieces will be retrofitted with catapults and trebuchets.

As a Veteran, and with more than 3 generations of Veterans stretching back BEFORE World War 1 (My Grandfather collected 4 gunshot, and several shrapnel wounds at Cambrai in 1918), I am EMBARRASSED by Canada's refusal to meet it's NATO and NORAD commitments. The Liberals have HATED anything to do with the Military and Veterans since the time of Pierre TURDeau. The ONLY reason Pierre did not completely disband the Military, was that WE SAVED HIS ASS during the FLQ Crisis.
It's also WELL-KNOWN that Equipment Acquisition is a COMPLETE EMBARRASSMENT and FAILURE - and has been for DECADES. Military requirements are often IGNORED in favour of POLITICAL reasons.
Of course - we have a Prime Minister who believes that "If you Kill all your Enemies, THEY win!" Fool.

Based on my own digging into the matter I believe NATO is the agressor. Look no further than the Minsk agreement THat NATO and Russia signed. We have reneged over and over. You Can't blame the Russians for not wanting NATO bases on there door step. This war could end today if we would just come to the bargaining table. I'm not saying that Putin is a nice guy But the Russian people have rights TOO. We in the west would do the same as Russia if the table was turned.

Actually Harrison, there were people who were trying to sign up last year. The CAF literally didn’t have the capacity to vet these people and process them.
The relaxed uniform standards (that have thankfully been tightened again) and this ridiculous idea of allowing non - citizens to enlist is really a smoke screen.
As you have rightly indicated. This is a long-term problem. There’s a lot that needs to be fixed. And it’s going to take more of a commitment than I’m hearing from anyone in government (or in opposition) right now.

I was raised by a military dad so lived on bases. I understand the importance of having a strong military. I knew that if the winds of war blew by, my Dad was going.
And knowing all of that, I support our full involvement in NATO. Our population is too small to muster a big enough army, we NEED NATO. When the American war machine shows up, as they did on some of the bases I was on, you can SEE the difference.
Any Civilian who imagines that we actually have an army would be very wrong.
Trudeau 1 &2 have worked hard to destroy any credibility we had as a military. What once was no longer is, thanks to them directly.
