- Trying out the new Boss HM2 Waza craft prototype pedal! Made in Japan, has an extra custom mode. Pretty sweet! Don't ask me when it's out, I have no idea, I just try to play guitar...
Drums in song mixed by Jocke Skog
DISCLAIMER. Boss sent me this prototype for the purpose of the demo. It was sent back after the video was made. Boss don't have a saying on how I make my video.

BOSS HM-2 Waza craft! Hope you have a great day!
What was the opening track. I think I know it but just can't tell what it was...
Thanks Ola!
Today is my birthday. I ll take this vid as a gift
Why do I know your egg yolk t shirt :( it's so whiny
I guess we can call you an influencer now lol.
Sometimes I start to wonder what the hell I did with my life... Then I remember I was part of the people that signed the petition to bring back the HM-2
You become a part of history
Salute
Me too
me too dude! haha
I salute you
80s BOSS pedals are responsible for so many styles of music
I had a whole set of the stompboxes (distortion, chorus, delay, flange). I've had a bunch of things since (Pods, Helix) but I don't think anything's come close to those.
Specially the 90's music
Boss/Roland Drum Machines and synths too!
Strongly agree with this!
Boss is a cult brand. They created the amazing TB-303 which started multiple styles of music, the best drum machines- - TR-606, 808 and 909 and a lot of other amazing stuff! I like Roland. Oh, and the best hand clap pedal - Boss HC-2 (I just got one of those and can't be happier). What they need to do is to bring us WAZA 303,606,808, and 909!!! I'd buy all of them.
(Raises voice to talk over noise floor) "It's not that bad" classic
Even when he was playing it was just noise with the addition of some almost recognizable pitch in it.
It was 80 decibels of white noise when he wasn't playing!
Ola: “let’s see what happens when we turn the knobs down a bit.”
Ola 5 seconds later: *turns knobs back up to near max*
You speak truth
Swedish instinct
Thought the same thing lol
I thought same thing
Lmfao
I am a regular viewer but man the opening jam was absolutely SICK.
hell yeah, when it kicks into half time, it gets NASTY
for a second there i thought a i missed a part of video where a man opens a jar of jam
Definitely a badass riff.
@@torontotonto6189 "Ola tasting shit"
You could clear a forrest with that tone
My ears physically hurt after listening to this demo.
I’ll take 12.
The HM-2 was my very first pedal, and I've got a lot of love for it as a result. When I first started playing guitar in 1991 or 1992, my parents got me an utterly clean amp with no breakup whatsoever, which was a problem for obvious reasons. They took me back to the guitar shop to get a pedal so I could have some distortion, and the guy at the counter recommended the HM-2 if I wanted to play metal. As such, my first venture into playing with heavy tones was with this beast, and I absolutely loved it.
I eventually started getting into amp gain and ended up selling my HM-2 because I felt I no longer needed it. Later, when I had a better understanding of how things actually worked, I started kicking myself for not having kept the HM-2 to broaden my tonal options. When I looked into finding one, there weren't many to be had and the prices were ridiculous, so I put my dreams of reacquiring my first pedal aside.
As a result, I'm really happy that they're reissuing a Waza version of the HM-2 and will probably end up buying one.
That's really cool that you got introduced to this pedal as the kick off.
The HM-2 was also my 1st pedal. A Japanese one back in the mid 80's, I got for Christmas lol. It is hard to grasp the current love for this thing lol. I started building pedals a few years ago, and I dug up the HM-2 schematic, built it on a breadboard and said, nope, not going to bother making a circuit board and all that, it still sounds weak and stale (to me). I sold it for about $50 back in 1992 for a Metal Zone lol.
@@jrg770 still with the original metal zone, although I went multi effects soon after and stopped patching in the mt2
THIS is the single most exciting thing that happened in 2021 so far.
Me: "How does a distortion pedal sound like a chainsaw?"
**Ola starts playing**
Me: "Oh. I get it now"
This is absolutely my favourite guitar sound ever. CHAINSAW BE BUZZZZZZZZIN. Such a game changer for death metal, hardcore and grindcore
“Obviously everything has to be on max.”
My neighbours don’t know yet how badly I needed to hear this.
"This sound is so niche". Yeah, but if like 10% of your subscribes buy one based on this video, that's already an okay amount of sales upon release 😁
@@fredriksvard2603 Indeed! A very distinct tone that I could imagine using just to throw myself off 😂
I would agree only 10% of us have taste.. jk of course.
Put the Swede Approved sticker in the return box. That should tell Boss that they are doing good work. 😁
Honestly name of that pedal should be BOSS HM-2 HUSQVARNA. Colors are on point already, but just need to reverse them ^^
Lol! Best comment!
LOL, just thinking about how I actually sharpied "Husqvarna" onto the case of a clone I built for myself a few years ago xD
Such a great suggestion for a Limited Edition. The “Americanized” version. The Husqy in Husqvarna orange with black accents.
😂😂😂😂
That would be a sick custom version
Ola ** turning volume halfway down **
Boss HM-2: ** still at 99 dB**
Unreal, funniest thing is the youtube subtitles display "applause" every time you play
Lol. ALL THE FREQUENCIES DETECTED! MUST BE APPLAUSE!
I’ve been the biggest fan of “Loveless” by My Bloody Valentine for almost two decades and only recently learned that Bilinda Butcher was using an HM-2 for that dreamy, hazy shoegaze tone. The HM-2 is such a stellar piece of gear, think of how many genres of music have become shaped by its tone. I preordered mine today!
Probably for this reason the Behringer's HM-2 copy is pink colour
sory kid....the sound of that is kevin in the record...sory kid....kevin shields is the holy bible of tone....
@@bullfrogboss8008 I have that one but it hisses a lot. Is that normal or did I get a defective pedal?
So, why did you stop being a fan when you found out?
@@artysanmobile edited my comment for clarity, still the biggest fan lol
Not gonna lie, that tone around the 6 minute mark where the knobs were all about half-way was actually pretty killer too.
7:11 - Slaughter of the soul and Jester race sound - sick!
I was literally just thinking about the HM-2 and then Ola uploads this. What a great start to the day
"Guys only think about one thing" Meme.
3:36 "It's time man, it's time." *plays first chord of 'Start Me Up'
No shit right...lol
with headphones it feels so intense, literaly crushing
Feels like getting sunk in an ocean of distortion
Oceans of distortions, sounds like a dope black metal band
I couldn´t help it, but my face turned into a big smile when I heard it in the distorted channel on max. That brings me back 🤘
One of the most anticipated pedals and they listened. Boss is a somewhat cool company.
Next comes the FZ-2W
I’m still in disbelief that we’re actually getting it. Us guitarists get cool things sometimes
Right, sometimes we get nice things !
Bro this is the best time to be alive gear wise, you got great gear and sounds at a fingertip it's only matter of time to do great stuff with all this tools
This is why we can't have nice things.......
We totally get it
If you live long enough, crazy and strange things happen....like girls wanting to get freaky with you.
Something that isn't talked about as often but I know many players who have bought one for this reason, is that a few Shoegaze bands would use the HM-2 as well, including Belinda Butcher from "My Bloody Valentine" (not maxed out obviously). Also Daft Punk used it in combination with a Tb-303 Synthesizer on "Da Funk "as well, this pedal is legendary.
So today I learned that the Swedish death metal tone is what I've been missing in my life..thanks Ola
Welcome, comrade.
Oh hell yeah! :) \m/
Does anyone know when. this will be released?
Man i played one for years in a blues band as my second tier distortion for those special solos. Classic
I'll buy it for blues and some rock-jazz kinda stuff lol. It sounds really nice through a fender tweed champ imho.
You nailed (pun entirely unintended) the tone for Nail’s You Will Never Be One Of Us. 🤤
Glad I ordered it . Thanks for demo maestro. 🤠🎄🤠🎄
Custom mode seems like a great way to take the sweed influence and add it to other genres where it wouldn't traditionally work. Really freaking cool
I need this in my life!!
amazing video Ola! thx for making it as great as always - and i really love the intro! the camera movement is next level for your content
Thank you so much for the demo, Ola!
I loooooove that "custom mode"! That pedal is a BEAST \m/
Now I know how Bloodbath recorded the guitars for their first album.
On all of their albums! There's a couple really good threads on UltimateMetal where Dan Swano posted about the setup they used on Nightmares Made Flesh and Resurrection Through Carnage. HM-2 into a Marshall DSL50 and Marshall 4x12, and at least an SM57, Royer Ribbon, AKG 414, and possibly others all blended together for NMF, and for RTC it was the HM-2 with a Digitech GNX2 multi FX, with a Marshall amp and cab emulation on it. Fathomless Mastery sounds like it was mixed with a traditional amp tone, but there's definitely HM-2 on it.
And they used a 5 string baritone guitar for NMF too, as a fun fact. Presumably a celloblaster
@@SuffyANX Wait, the Schecter celloblaster?? They were actually used on recordings? I wanted one for years but I don't think they ever made them in left handed versions.
@@Guzwar Dan Swano had a right handed version if I'm not mistaken, just played it lefty. He sold it to a big time fan about a decade ago. They did make left handed Celloblasters, they do pop up from time to time. But last Celloblaster I saw for sale I snagged QUICK. Have two CB-2000s, and had an A-5X that's been stolen, I'll hopefully get another someday.
This is like a dream come true, I'm gonna buy that pedal!! But also what a sick intro you did, please make more songs like that :O
Wow that sound just kicks you right in the chest. Love it.
Back to back ola videos. Now that's how u kick a week off
That was THE best intro of all time on your channel. Period. \m/
YES! FINALLY! Definitely buying this when it comes out🤘
OMFG that’s a dream come true! It’s so beautiful!
SIGN ME UP WHEN THIS SHIT COMES OUT 🤣🖤
SAME
It's been 2 hours, and no one in guitar channels upload this new Bosss pedal. Ola definitely Boss/Roland favourite RUclipsrer 😁😂
That’s pretty sick that you get to try the prototypes haha awesome
Can’t wait for their release
That intro was sick! Love your videos Ola!
This camera work is your best yet!
Been waiting patiently for this...
This pedal is absolutely sick! Let's not forget the absolute greatest Ola video of all time, the Metal Zone review. Boss should seriously sponsor a video and make you a pedal ola!
Fantastic, cool of Boss to do this. And the new camera work is nice!
Boss: NEW HM-2
ME: "SHUT UP TAKE MY MONEY!!!"
7:27 Pretty much a tonal match for Bloodbath's Resurrection Through Carnage
My favorite guitar tone of all time. I am thinking of buying one of these just to get that guitar tone
My favorite BB album!
I remember hearing that sound back in the day with dismember and entombed, never realized they used this pedal , great video
I'm glad to see you set it correctly. So happy I sold all of my vintage ones, so I can buy one of these \m/ \m/
That was the Swedish Chainsaw Massacre. So sick man. Great tone.
My favorite pedal! Back from the dead. I have an original and a bunch of copies to use... Now, this. Perfect.
Sundays with Ola has been my kind of lifeline over the last 1,000 years of all this. My Sundays start kind of early here now. It's ALL good.
The intro was badass! Gonna have to buy one of these!
I've always loved the HM2... that sounded amazing!
Finally! Hope they're released soon! Instant buy
Maaan, the production of these videos is spiking sooooooo much!
i just closed my eyes and listened to these pleasant sounds with a kind smile on my face
I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long long time
I'm a simple man, I hear swedish chainsaw, I thumbs up....
the best distortion pedal ever made by humans. Good work Roland! And thank you everyone who signed that petition.
Yes!!! Sounds killer! I can't wait for this thing to be released!
That sounds absolutely incredible and I’m going to need one
You sold me at 20 seconds in!
Hmmm....... the Swedish Death Metal pedal being played by everyone's favorite Swedish Death Metal guitarist? Good move on Boss. We are now all powerless and cannot resist buying this.
Now you have to compare the original to the waza and the eye master. Then put all of them on at the same time.
ola will...but i wait for Dome for that comparison
This should open a gate to hell
And the behringer
Better Clones than the Eyemaster. Check the KMA Wurm or if you wanna go minimaö, check the JPTR FX Death Saw,its a HM2 type but with just one On off foot switch and you get the Maxed out EQ HM2 sound. Both sound sick and come really really close to the original
@@frank_satanic The "Klirrton Grindstein" is very good, too.
Can’t wait to get mine this Christmas the Hm-2 in general has been a pedal I’ve always wanted since I went deeper into metal sub genres
I'm soooooo ready for one of these!! And yeah you're going to buy one.... you know you are.
Time to play some Nails. They have a super rad HM-2 sound.
They have custom HM-2 clones now.
Yeah, they’ve been using the Dunwich Tyrant for a while now
@@krokodilejaw5431 wait really? So I’d have to buy one of those to obtain that nails sound? I wish I knew more about their gear and tuning
@@Nishinga. not really. Any HM-2 clone should to the trick. And the play in C standard tuning
The thing is, this pedal had a unique sound even when not in "chainsaw" mode, almost a slightly saggier/buzzier Big Muff kind of tone, use to good effect by JK Broadrick and MBV.
Alas, judging from Ola's demo, it seems that the Waza still has the anemic output of the original and the Behringer clone, which is probably why a lot of people dimed it back in the day just so they could be louder.
Such beautiful tones!
Ola makes anything he touches sound amazing.
Holy shittt, the crazy hm2 is back!!
I have an eyemaster but this,
This I need! The best news!
I find the new setting on the waza sounds like the eyemaster. I have the eyemaster and an original HM2.
i finally got a waza hm-2 and its everything i couldve hoped for! i ended up getting rid of the eyemaster cause it wasnt getting used anymore lol, and maxing everything is my least favorite setting tbh with less gain it sounds way better
This is the moment I have waited years for...
I've been trying to love the og japan HM2 for 22 years but it doesn't last long on my board. My dad bought it when it first came out before i was born. Still blows my mind that he bought it in the first place. Wish i could remember him playing it though, he passed when i was 3. I'll never sell it for sentimental reasons, its paint job looks like the waza pedal after all these years. Your intro video makes the pedal sound so damn good.
Ola been waiting for this my whole life😂😂
Hello Bryce how are you doing and what are your daily activities for today ?
The guitar tone so effing ridiculous, it ends up being amazing! Hail to the chainsaw man!
I love how sharp the tone is
You can hear all the detailed notes
Prefect - cause you hit an area of playing where you’re addicted to the tone but you play to fast and complicated for it and it’s frustrating
But this is awesome
Hello Goat how are you doing and what are your daily activities for today ?
A must have in the arsenal. Looking forward to owning one.
I just got mine a few days ago and it's one of my favorite pedals ever made. It gets you a sound nothing else does.
I got to try a digital HM-2 through STL's Tonehub and for someone like me who likes to blend amps, the HM-2 adds that grind/chainsaw sound under the main rhythm sound. Definitely looking at getting this in physical form. Veddy veddy good 👌🏽🤘🏽
Very cool this pedal is back! Now you can actually use a PSA-adaptor unlike with the old ones. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to use "all the gain" to get a descent sound out of this. The HM-2 works well with doom metal and rock n roll also. I recorded a death metal EP with it and did not max it out, but boosted it with a SD-1 instead. Got awesome sound!
ROCK! Damn I smiled through the whole video! I use to run mine through a Peavey Butcher back in the 80s... no noise gate, could turn it on until the song started due to the hiss... plan to order one immediately!
killer intro riff & amazing sound!
the sunlight studio sound! think the first i heard that tone was a carnage track on a now very old earache records compilation.
if there is ever a gear hall of fame this pedal should be in it
I bought the debut CARNAGE album DARK RECOLLECTIONS when it was 1rst released way back in the 90's.
And of course had the 1rst 2 ENTOMBED albums and DISMEMBER's 1RST album as well.
@@thefuneralparade don't know if it's just my memory playing tricks, but it seems now that there was a 3 or 4 year period when a brilliant album was coming out every other week.
Ola used his best demo riffs for the pedal song intro. He is made for this kind of pedal. Yeah!!!
As soon as you turned on the distorted channel with the Waza on, the sound just blew me away.
i have owned both a taiwanese and a japanese hm2 for quite some time and still can't wait to buy this. Kudos to Boss for actually listening to their customers, greetings to the other BOSS HM-2W facebook group guys.
Stopped the video immediately to tell you this. I just came here because I have kind of a "depression day", which is actually unusual (but the pandemic, home office, basically nothing to do except the all day stuff...). My idea was, that there is nothing out there that can lift my mood. Wait! Nothing??? Yes! There IS something! And it's Swedish! Just wanted to tell you this. Cheers!
Those were some sweet sweet licks. How about a whole hm2 waza album?
How about a second wave of early 90s death metal?
@@ilikepotatoes1345 I would very much like that.
We already have Clandestine.
@@ilikepotatoes1345 this happened in the early 2010s
Love it..can't wait to add this to my japan hm2's
My HM-2w arrived yesterday, I’m so happy!
Am I the only one who within the first 30 seconds of this video already made up there mind and said I want this pedal.
No need for a WILL IT CHUG video on this one. Badass!!
Sounds Awesome!! Great to see it in Waza form! I have an original one from the first year of production 1983, 2nd month, MIJ near mint condition!! One of the best Boss pedals of all time!!
Mine just arrived! My neighbors are going to love it!
