Often with newly immune suppressed patients on a cardiac ICU. Another son in law has T1D, his job has not yet been shut down (though breaks have been changed to only allow ten people at a time on break) Of my 5 grandchildren, the oldest at 6 1/2 has asthma as does another one, with the youngest (14 months) one likely on that track as well. One of my daughters has mild asthma as well, and is pregnant. My father is nearly 80, with some underlying health issues, but as a retired mathematician he has posted the odds on several other things more likely to take his life, though he’s not likely to be one of those out bucking the system. But it’s probably a good thing that he and mom have plenty of room in their house and more than one tv 😉 (and computer ... and iPad 😏🤷🏼)
I'm in Seattle and have severe lung disease. I've been taking the precautions. What I would also advise my neighbors is that allergy season has started and I can feel it. Don't mistake that for corona either.

Ive been coughing and sneezing into my arm for years. Mainly cause I dont want spit on my hands. Since its becoming spring and theres a bunch of pollen ive been coughing and sneezing but when im out in public i hold it in so much cause I dont need people thinking I have corona. I used to scribe in the ED and I quit scribing. I believe in general that it is dumb and I am irritated at the negligence that Scribeamerica provides during this healthcare crisis because not only are scribes primarily college age students who can spread contact with ACTUAL PATIENTS to their communities, but they are NON essential and I have never met a doctor that cant work without a scribe. The purpose of scribing is to increase revenue for the hospital and as a byproduct help doctors and providers chart efficiently but during times like this I think its up to companies like SA to understand they are mismanaging and contributing to a healthcare crisis. Kids have been taken out of school in NC for 2 weeks. Why aren't the Drs offices closing? My dad has Alzheimer's, and is being held hostage in a skilled nursing facility with no way to contact family members. Their only testing protocol for their employees is to take their temperature on their way in every day. This is a bunch of fearmongering, courtesy of big brother. What's REALLY going on that they don't want us to know about right now? 🤔

One question though no large gathering , events suspended, here in sequim wa schools closed for a month starting tues.....the question is how does all that ive just said make sense if thousands of people a day are shopping at the local Costco seems like thats a gathering but maybe im confused
It makes sense but imperfect sense. People need to eat, pick up meds, etc. It can't be helped but we can muss sports events, church, etc. I'm poor and buy when money and need coincide but fortunately, I'm good for 2-3 weeks and while there are things I would like to have, I'm hunkered down as of today unless my elderly neighbors need something.

Good point. But regrettably, there's no alternative to allowing people out to pick up food, etc. Goal of the shutdowns is not to prevent cases, but to spread them over a longer period of time to allow the hospitals to keep up. Hopefully, people will have bought what they need (e.g. non-perishable food items instead of stupid shit like toilet paper) and be able to stay in more when shit really pops off during the last week of March.
I know you did not ask for MY opinion, but in my opinion, the UK is going to allow this virus to kill off their most cost-INeffective patients: the elderly, and those who are struggling with complicated medical issues. A lot of it is over my head, but from what I understand, it's estimated a person is contagious up to 8 days after they start showing signs of illness. For someone who is severely ill, they may be contagious for a longer period of time.

Living Life Drive through testing is going on now in New York. Here in backwater Kentucky it will start Monday or Tuesday. We are testing febrile patients at my hospital and getting rapid turnaround. At my facility, you have to call in to discuss symptoms before going to the drive through testing centers otherwise it would be just chaos if people drop by.

Ok people. This test cannot be done on the whole world. To do any lab test need a positive & negative control. The positive is difficult to get. They've made kits, but missing chemical component. So like he said stay the f... home. This pcr test has to be done by QUALIFIED lab personnel. So there a lab tech shortage anyways already working overtime before all this. So idk who they think going to be able to do all this testing& how able to get that positive control. FDA has let this test bypass all kind of regulations. I mean it took years to get a rapid test for HIV. I don't think this test can be that accurate. I had to pull a test been using 3 years because company sold reagent bypassed a FDA regulation. FDA caught it 3 years later.
Especially now that widespread testing is only this week going to start becoming available. There will be a lot of positives from people who wanted to get tested four days or two weeks ago (or such), who would have tested positive earlier, but in the statistics they will look like "brand new" cases. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. (I already know a lot of people who have lost their jobs for indeterminate time now, and half of USAns ALREADY were only one or two lost paychecks away from financial ruin.) But, because of the delay in finding positive results for some people, there will be a huge spike in numbers this week, but some (unknown) percentage of it will be an illusion because some of these people were already sick a week or two ago.

It doesn't just magically end at a certain date. Seasonal flu doesn't tend to thrive well in humid warm weather, they like cool dry conditions. But influenza can still go around if people get the infected's cough, sneeze pr exhalation droplets. COVID-19 doesn't act like seasonal flu strains. It's present in warm humid climates.

Several states have already had drive thru testing and it was closed down because it was overrun.

If you live in the United States flu season is coming to an end, that does not mean you can’t get the flu or it magically goes away, it circles the globe. Maybe like covid-19 will do. One can only hope, I can’t stand this world, the people and how governments literally steal out of peoples pockets but nothing can be done. I pray for a more destructive virus 🍻
