Scotty what model is that Lexus I really like it I just want to know what model it is
Hey Scotty I have a Cadillac DeVille 05 it's been running pretty great but lately I'm having symptoms of a blown head gasket as well as Warren Pistons I have 160,000 miles . I tried Blue devil. Not so great do you think it's worth it too get a rebuild I've been working on the car it's been a fun project but I bought it for $500 I probably sunk around 3 k into it so far should I dump it it's burning oil pretty good it rides fine my engine is not shaking yet but I can see it makes it in my coolant just need a word of wisdom
Best videos Thank-you
Quick question..I have 2 plugs fouled w oil in the coil pack chamber and it's ..put putting..bogging out loses power ..any ideas ..dodge caliber

His spark plugs are in good shape!
Carbon isn't always oil burning. It could be rich fuel mixture or weak ignition system.
Still making videos in a rainstorm. What a trooper!

Even a rain downpour doesn't stop Scotty!
You would think Scotty is conducting an orchestra with those arm movements, but he is just passionate about spark plugs
god i need to see an edit of this now lmao
I'm afraid to look, I wanna know but I don't wanna know.
That's good. Because he never told you.
Dang, this guy triggered my ptsd from all those infomercials of the 2000's 😂 good info, thank you for showing us!
I never thought to check both sides for fuel injection issues, learned something new today. Thanks Scotty!
I'm running detergent gasoline for a few tanks. Cleaning the valves, injectors, and other carbon build up. My car is running smoother at idle.
Scotty recommends techron fuel treatment over detergent gas or other fuel treatments such as techron. He explains in a video that he has a friend in the oil industry who deals with gas and oil additives, and apparently techron is the only brand that lists the active carbon cleaning, other brands may have it, but there's a secrecy about all their additives, therefore most brands don't show any ingredients. I've had a great experience with techron btw, used it on 3 or 4 cars now, and i like it because not only does the car run like butter, but the oil stops getting black after just 2-3k miles (higher mileage cars). Part of getting cleaner oil is probably doing oil and filter changes every 3k when I can, but if you use techron on fresh oil it will make it relatively dirty. One time I saw chunks of carbon (salt grain sized) come out after using techron after the oil stopped turning black so quickly. Thought I'd let you and everyone else know since it's hard to find some of scottys videos sometimes. Last note, 2 of my cars were high mileage VW's that were sketchy (2nd was a 3.6 VR6 passat that i had from 292-310k before forced to sell after it sat for 3 or 4 months, and still ran perfect), and I also got compliments about having the cars running better than previous owners just from doing an oil and filter change, then running techron as directed right before another oil and filter change after 3k miles. Scotty recommended it, I trusted it, and it couldn't of turned out better, I've used detergent gas out of necessity and it made my cars run better, but only about half or a third of what techron did. Anyways, I need to get to sleep, lmao. If techron wants to hire me, here I am, lmao.
Scotty you shared your all experiences and analysis. Thank you for your work throughout the decade. .
Good work doctor Quincy, Scottie's like a forensic👨🎓😁 investigator of spark plugs BROTHER!
And I'm a forensic investigator of butt plugs
I changed my spark plugs after 278000 miles (because I guarantee no one before me did it) and they were whiteish?? Started doing nothing but premium gasoline and semi synthetic oil changes (going to full synthetic soon.) And it seems run way better with constant premium and way better oil changes and duration.
I love how you talk with your hands. Valuable info! One of your videos alerted me to the fact that I need to get my drive shaft looked at.
That's what she said
The amout of times scotties videos have helped me out its unbelievable
Same here.
My son is a mechanic (cars, motorcycles and tanks) and he says the same the spark plugs are the key to the engine.
He has the cleanest fingernails iv ever seen on a master mechanic... ever!! Life goals i absolutely love listening to the man teach us about vehicles and mechanical technology...
On one of my Yugo's spark plugs, the electrode was broken off
After seeing Scotty's advice about spark plugs, I'm utterly surprised my Yugo ran NORMALLY with that broken spark plug 😦
Just changed my plugs. 95,000 miles. I have known it burns oil for a while. Apparently a characteristic of my year and model car. Plugs I took out looked f**ked. Cleaning the system is next. Hopefully that helps with oil burn.
Took me all day to take one spark plug off my 4 Runner. It’s a 2016 and it’s a pain in the a$$. Thanks Scotty 🤣🤣
How'd it look....lol
Thanks. Getting ready to do a tune up on a V6
Give this guy the credit he deserves, he really knows what he is talking about. !!!
Back in the carburetor era reading plugs was something you did quite often when you did performance upgrades.
Scotty the man behind and in front of the videos with the best return for the time invested. Thank you.
I'm not sure if you answer to question on a donation based plan which in case you do it's totally fair as we benefit from your videos already but I'll take my chances with a quick question.
Auto Trans 2012 Toyota Corolla 60K city miles, it's recommended to replace front differential oil and replace transmission fluid under 3 conditions of driving while towing, using a car-top carrier, or heavy vehicle loading. None of 3 applies to it but as I mentioned it's city driven only and my mom is planning to keep it and I'd like to keep it healthy.
I'd appreciate if you give me your recommendation and again no hard feelings if you don't I'd still be grateful to watch your videos.
Regards,
At 60k it's definitely time for a front diff service, transmission flush, coolant flush, power steering flush, probably some new brake pads too if they haven't been done
Best video hands down for explaining this
For a mechanic this man has really nice, clean nails. It’s nice to see that
That's because he's not a mechanic
He wife we'll piss off to see dirty hands thats why he wares gloves when he works on vehicles
And then there’s mine, pure black. I was given a car my aunt drove and my mom before her. It’s a 2003 Saturn Ion and I feel so bad for it. It was abused so much. Neither ever changed the spark plugs, my aunt never changed the oil and I don’t think my mom did before that which means the black sludge was like 60,000 miles and 8 years old, and so many other parts that should have been long replaced many times are still in there.
Is the car still alive?
I had the tip of one of my sparkplug blow...I thought for sure my engine was toast...but miraculously the tip that blew off got pushed out somehow without messing with anything 😅
I just had this happen to me a few days ago. I had no clue what the problem was until I was able to replace the spark plug and ignition coil and realized the electrode tip was broken off and it was very black. I've been doing a lot of driving in the meantime and now I am scared if I ruined my engine. I no longer have any codes after replacing the plug and plan on replacing the other three plugs and coils soon. I think it happened because of an issue with antifreeze overheating and a few days before that I ended up hitting a rock on the road that jolted my car badly and had to replace a tire. My tee connector broke completely off leaving me stranded and I managed to fix that after getting it towed to the dealership that had the part I luckily ordered ahead of time. I ended up putting the wrong OAT coolant in and it's not overheating per say but the temps are sometimes reaching 126 for a few seconds at traffic lights. Vehicles are a pain. I'm just scared that I didn't F UP the engine already.
@@Midala87 well when I took mine to get checked out by my mechanic at first he said I'm screwed, I'd need to replace the entire engine, but he had me turn my car on just to see what the engine was doing...it was running normal and he immediately said "oh you're fine."...according to him, if it had messed up anything, he said the engine would be shaking pretty violently....so based off my experience, if your engine isn't shaking violently, and you're not tripping any codes, you should be alright.....if you've been driving it since that happened, the damage would already have been done and it you'd be able to tell for sure.
I'd definitely get the coolant situation fixed asap and replace the other sparkplugs asap too just for safe measure.
Yeah, I'm definitely glad I got rid of that car...it was one problem after another...I loved it though, I learned a lot cus I did all the work myself, aside from changing a timing belt, I had my mechanic do that...but it came to a point I wanted a reliable newer car, and circumstances changed eventually to where I could.
Hope everything turns out alright for you, car problems definitely aren't fun...hang in there, it gets better eventually 🤙
My spark plugs have oil on the threads, but the electrode is fine there's no oil there, just the threads, I haven't a clue what that is the rings ? Leaking valves?
just changed mine..06' crown vic cop car w/155k miles..plugs looked good but i was having a misfire..checked the gap (should be .054) they were all over .078 and a few over .085 lol ..new plugs cured the misfire
Gotta love those Crown Vics! I got a '00 LX w/ 107k miles & its never let me down. Remember, you don't "DRIVE" a Vic, it "FLOATS" you. 😲😲😲
having the wherewithal to routinely check spark plugs means you're way past this sort of advice. I enjoyed old Scotty that used non DOT fittings on brake lines. he's always good for a chuckle
Thanks for the info Scotty never knew this but if someone changes them for your they may not know this or let you see them but now i know i will ask for the old ones 😮
Scotty you forgot to put a plug in like mine with a bad head gasket! A little rust on the spark plug threads. I love your videos!
Scotty is originally from Niagara falls. He is resilient too chemicals.
He drank Niagara River Waters his whole childhood that's why he is so smart😂

I'd give up if I was you😂
Very busy guy, working while raining. Calming rain is good for the hear🙂
Scotty tell me the symptoms of a runaway motor gassing on his own. Turn it on turn it off turn it on turn it off. It goes away after the 5 time. Weather makes a big difference hot and cold cold mornings guaranteed to have a runaway motor like the car is running on its own or getting away from me the gas won’t slow it stays stuck.
Dang Scotty you got some clean hands for a mechanic...
2 more drinks and he'll hear the plugs talk.
He sounds like a cartoon character and that’s why I learned so much
Still waiting for scotty to start flying
With the Toyota V6 I would have to take half of the car apart to get to them. If I spend that much work to get to them. Then I'm going to change them with real Toyota spark plugs.
Its easy for 4 stroke plug reading, but 2 stroke plug reading is a different story.
This is such a great man. Practical and sharing
Scotty is my RUclips Grampa 🖤🙏
I put in spark plugs and the very next day I took it in to get the timing set. They claim they couldn't do it because the plugs were bad. I told them I only drove 4 miles on the car but they still claimed they were bad. I never went back there again and told everyone I could not to go there.
And in some newer vehicles the spark plugs can even tell the cars computer how well the mixture is burning, even detect preignition very interesting stuff
His hand movement is the most Italian thing I’ve ever seen in my life
Someone get this man a proper shop already!!

Jack sparrow teaching us about spark plugs!! Nice!!
The gap on those plugs is HUGE!
My car has been screwed for the last 6 years. 😄

I had the diode tip break off of one of my spark plugs once. I was extremely lucky and it got sucked out of the exhaust.
Dark on one side of a plug can also mean that oil is leaking around the intake valve seal/guide.
The 2019 Ford ranger XL basic has a water issue by getting into the coil pack broke all 4 still ran missed a recall for a foam cover that sit on top $220 plus $600 at Ford company truck.
You're the man Scotty, please come work on my car next.
MAN that tent gazebo thing is awesome
I need one
Doesn’t the super smart computer know the shape your engine is in rather than guessing from spark plugs?
The hand gestures lol. Gotta love Scotty
Scotty could you please have a closer zoom on the spark plugs? Not quite able to see the difference between the 1st and the 2nd one.
Not even Method Man's hand movements can best Scotty's
Scotty we love you. Never stop
Maybe try to film when it’s NOT dumping buckets of water under a loud plastic canopy
i found six of em, i still can’t tell if my engine is in a v shape or an in-line shape
Uhh…
Inline, all "INLINE" on same side of engine. V, 3 on each side of the motor. I have a feeling though, you already knew this. 😲😲😲
Google it....😂
Scotty, for a mechanic your finger nails are super clean. Very rare for mechanics
So which to fix? Replace plugs? Or injectors?🤔🤷🏾♂️
It isn't screwed until you are unable to drive it.
Timing on a car was out by a tooth
Pulled the plugs out so I could rotate the engine and rectify the problem and because they tried to start it they soaked the plugs and now they are as black as ever
Dude I love this guy. I love it! Thank you Scotty. You're the best!
Italians got nothin on this guy !
My is diesel, and currently has 628,000 miles on the clock. Runs sweet, really sweet.

What if it's half black half white like the last one you showed, but ALL 4 plugs look like that? Still injector that's most likely culpable? Or could it be bad timing?
You are my go to when I want car info.
Wish i had charisma to talk with my whole body like scotty
burning oil is not that bad every car burns oil. The car he talks about just burns less.
I had to get my spark plugs replaced after only 1.5 years….. and it was a brand new civic.
He is (and always has been) spot on!!!
Nice that you didnt do a slow close up view of the bad plug. Good job 🤦
