My 92 and 1/2 year-old Mother was there 75 years ago today on the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. She walked across the bridge with another teenage friend.
3:51 to 3:55 My father, dressed in black like a Vacaro is in the forground holding up the prop archway with the girls alongside. He was in High School at the time and lived in Mill Valley. We have a still of this. RIP Dad. I wish I could have wished you a happy Father's Day this year
3:18 seconds into this movie I see my grandfather piloting one of the PBY planes flying over the bridge. It is the only film we have of him. He died a year later in an airplane accident off the coast of CA.
may 27, 1937. at minute 4:09 i think its my dad in center running toward camera as he was 11 at the time and lived in sf. hes still alive today. today is his birthday 1/1/2015. born 1/1/1926. lives in sausalito kenneth george wells.
This is Great!!! One of the lead bikes is supposedly grandpa Charley, another Irish SF policeman at the time. Does anyone know which one he is? Was a proud day in America for sure...
My great grandfather stanly was a San Francisco cop. We still own his guns from that time. He was also one of the leader bikers in front of the presidents limousine.
see the kid riding his bike next to motorcycle cops? they didn't care or make a big deal about it. better times back then in san francisco. I have a original un-restored 1937 chevy pickup that still runs after over 75 years. they don't make cars or trucks like that anymore. I loved old s.f. the city is a sad shadow of what it used to be.
My mother has questioned my sexuality ever since i showed her a picture of me with this bridge in the backround. Should i show her me with the Castro neon lighted marquee behind me?
Guys its fake he took a modern footage, and turned off the sound, and made it black and white. Look at the modern cars on the bridge. Its completely fake.

So stylish, so Art Deco. Truly a work of art.
Wow. This is so wonderful to see. Thank you so much for posting this. I really am blown away by it!
I went there on October 2014, walking through this bridge was the best experience of my visit. I would love to go again just to go see and walk it!!
Wow. I went that year to the first time but I'm may 2014 :) such a beautiful bridge.
not fun to walk it. cars make it noisy, smelly and shake. plus fear of falling off the bridge and or seeing suicides. one a week.
I went last month and I agree what a great experience to drive over it, see it from a distance and walk on it as well
