    I love that you put Knight up so high. It's the definition of "It just works". A lot of damage, a lot of defense, and the ability to support the entire party. There's no reality where it ISN'T a godlike class

    I think this is really well done. Here are my thoughts few of the classes to either add to what you said or mention an alternative take. I'll list them in alphabetical order as well.
    Beastmaster - I think it should be higher since it can break the game with a spreadsheet but definitely belongs down there with berserker and geomancer in terms enjoyability.
    Blue Mage - Feels a bit weird in terms of placing, I feel like it should be higher than Black Mage with all its amazing utility but at the same time I do agree that Black Mage's pure rod boosted damage is just better in some of the tougher fights. Personally I would rather have a Blue Mage over a Black Mage since it can act as a band-aid onto any team.
    Dancer and Dragoon - I would probably just swap these two around. I have never found a good use for Dragoons in this game and none of their abilities are worth passing on. Jump is horrible in this game where you want to finish fights quickly and lancet is useless with its damage output. Dragoons also don't have access to swords, only Ricard and Kain can do that. Dancer on the other hand get access to a ribbon at Karnak and passing equip ribbon can often be the best ability to give to classes that are already great on their own. All that to say though, I think Dragoon should just really be dragged down to C tier with Dancer.
    Freelancer - I tried the unemployment run after seeing some of your stream. The equip anything ability is absolutely broken even without abilities and stats. I didn't struggle in the run until I got to Exdeath.
    Geomancer - There might need to be a tier between Beastmaster and Berserker. Geomancer is horrible, at least the Beastmaster can consistently paralyze with whips but Geomancer really doesn't have anything going for it.
    Monk - The problem with trying to argue that Monks need lots of experience to start dealing more damage after world 1 is that levels matter in every damage formula in this game so a level 70 monk will still be lagging behind any other high leveled party. The high stamina might be the only thing going for it since you now have a meatier version of whatever other class you rolled.
    Mystic Knight - Fun fact, these guys are tied for having the second highest agility along with Ninjas. You should be giving these guys knives for DPS not swords. Flare spellblade is also amazing against enemies with no elemental weakness as it ignores 75% of the target's defense stat. While the Black Mage is better off casting rod boosted -ga spells over flare, Mystic Knights should always go for Flare spellblade when dealing neutral damage.
    Ninja - Should not even be considered for A tier, solid S tier. There is never any point in the game where Ninja is not beneficial and even low level ninjas should still be dealing 6k+ with fuma shurikens against Neo-Exdeath.
    Ranger - The killer bow as an 8% chance of instantly killing an enemy and it can proc off rapid fire. It's also not considered the death spell so it will kill undead enemies and enemies immune to death. I think heavy enemies are the only ones that are immune to the killer bow. Also aim doesn't work when you are blinded, so it can't actually help you there. Rapid fire also halves the damage with each hit so you are effectively always dealing 2x the damage but it also ignores evasion and defense so it tends to do a bit more than that, can also be combined with spellblade and turns off the chicken knife's weakness.
    Summoner - Yes you can dual cast summoning magic.
    Thief - You can steal Twin Lances from Objet d'Art. This is pretty good damage for most of world 2, should be swinging for around 1000 damage with your standard attack command.
    White Mage - Easily could have moved up a tier if it could multicast protect and shell.

      i had so much fun with the Geomancer's Gaia in the midgame personally
      i had both my mages get Gaia early on so that they could focus on leveling black and white magic while having a decent alternative to deal damage without consuming MP
      also, Desert Storm/Quicksand/Whirlpool/Bottomless Bog/Sonic Boom/Earthquake/Twister/Wind Slash/Cave-in/Stalactite worked suprisingly well throughout my adventure.

    Maxing out Mystic Knight, Ranger, and Ninja gives you access to INSANE damage on a single target. I'd say those three should be A tier at a minimum as they are all still pretty good by themselves.

    how you can put Mimic, as a C-Tier is beyond me. Its beyond even S-Tier in power due to its sheer versatility. I used 4 mimics literally lets you use any abilities, even double casting spells without any cost and that makes them beyond OP. They may not be the strongest, but being able to mimic any ability free of cost, makes them the most powerful class out there.

      Berserker also improved in pixel remaster as atb doesn't completely reset to 0 for going into berserk status, and 7:48 cover with berserk for monk's innate counter for synergy. Dragoon is useless lol 16:41 wears heavy armor (many classes do) and useless HP/MP drain which is weaker for its low growth (let alone mix is better), and jump isn't anywhere near as useful as final fantasy tactics to dodge magic, ranged spear to dodge hamedo of a sword, and can jump obstacles even without ignore elevation.
      Chemist mix fully heals hp, mp and can revive with Phoenix down and potion. Mime's extra slot has it replace item, which is far better. Mime should be S tier. You can also dual wield rods for stronger magic (two handed knight sucks let alone isn't passive).
      Samurai can't use spellblade given katanas, which sucks, though spellblade is primarily used with break (or non-elemental flare and rapidfire for high success even one shots upper middle of neo exdeath and I believe behemoths that zeninage will get you party wiped by comet/meteor counter) or else you risk healing enemies.

    For what it's worth, in most versions of the game (not sure about PR, haven't tried it) the Time Mage can defeat (hell, *solo*) both Shinryu and Omega using the Bio rod and Quick; use Quick, snap the Bio Rod, then wait it out. It'll take 15-20 minutes, but for the entirety of the time the HP leak ticks away, eventually killing any enemy in the game.

    Beastmaster should be higher. Their control ability is brokenly good in many fights. Completely takes the enemy's ability to act away along with being able to select their actions. Many harder enemies like dragons can be controlled and then made to kill themselves. As long as you use magical abilities to damage them, the control will remain intact. Extremely useful job when doing solo Bartz runs.

    Blue Mage doesn't belong in A-Tier. It belongs in a tier on its own, above S-Tier, due to "Death By Math" alone.
    But here are some other reasons as well.
    1. Shields. Since it can use Shields, it can use the Aegis Shield with no issue. That speaks alot towards its survivability.
    2. Armor/Helms. Medium Armor may not protect as well as Heavy Armor, but there are still a fair number of Medium Armors and Helms out there that knock it out the park, such as the Bone Mail up on Drakenvale, or the Gold Hairpin in Barrier Tower.
    3. Weapons. The Enhancer Blade is fantastic on any magic user that can use it. And that's before mentioning it can break Rods.
    4. The !Scan Command. Often overlooked, !Scan does double duty by not only revealing an enemy's weaknesses (among many other things), but also its current level, which is crucial to the class's inherent "Death By Math" strategy.
    ...And all of this comes standard, before considering what Blue Magic can do.
    Considering that it's fully possible to solo the whole game with just a Blue Mage, and nothing else, there's really no reason why this class doesn't belong in a tier of its own, IMO.

    Shurikens themselves fall off quickly, but the upgraded versions are pretty good. They’re either called Fuma Shurikens, Pinwheels, or MagiShurikens depending on the version. The scrolls are also decent, iirc they basically do the same damage as 2nd level elemental spells.

    The one thing about berserker (that doesn't work for four job fiesta, obviously) is that equip axes can be awesome on spellcasters, especially summoner. Gaia hammer (if you can actually get it), and thor's hammer can be used from the back row, and gaia hammer makes titan stronger. Geomancer's gaia ability is also prety decent on white mage, to use their magic stat to deal damage when they're not healing. Neat things they can do, but just not on their original classes.

      Don't forget that with a certain character's base Magic stat (like Butz), and the right equipment (like Giant's Gloves and/or Thornlet), you can set Berserker's magic stat so low you can underflow their Magic stat to become their highest stat. Though I'm not sure if I can confirm this can work on later games. (I only play on the SNES.)
      Because of that underflow, they _can_ be effective users of Gaia Hammer.

    1. My favorite class is Blue Mage because I can learn an enemies' attack and turn it against them
    2. My favorite combination is giving the Spellblade ability to a Ninja as a guarantee of making it out of a battle provided that the enemies aren't undead
    3. Bards and Dancers go hand-in-hand so the main ability of one being given to the other can be helpful in the right way
    4. My only knit-pick is that the Red Mage doesn't have access to the lvl4 or higher spells for what they can do

    Some comments
    In general I think it's worth it to look at two specific roadblocks in the game, anyone that can easily get by one of them without power leveling gets a boost. Those two are World 2 castle Exdeath, and Almagest from NED.
    White Mage has the highest damage output of any magic user once you get Holy, also they have access to Shell, which means you can survive Almagest early. They might deserve to get a bump. on the other hand, if you have to do much of world 1 with only white mages that can be miserable. They can also break light staves vs Castle Exdeath to help out there.
    Summoner probably deserves a bump because they trivialize Castle Exdeath. also, since almost any job can equip knives, it's a great job to boost weaker jobs. If you give a beastmaster an air knife and !Summon then they'll be a lot better than if you gave them !Black, since they can't equip rods. Same goes for geomancer, thief, and other lower-tier jobs.
    Dragoon is probably overrated. They have the armor to be a tank but if you spend time jumping then they're not tanking since the enemies will target your squishier characters instead. If you aren't jumping then it's just a very mediocre melee character. there is no fight in the game where your first choice of job to prepare is Dragoon.
    Ninja has even more tricks than you gave them credit for. In particular, if you have a mage then giving the ninja a magic command will boost their magic stat to the point where their scrolls become viable all the way to the end of world 3, and they trivialize everything before then. even better is to give !Throw to a mage who can use a fire or thunder rod to boost it's damage output. Even if it wasn't for that, !Throw has the advantage that you can give everyone in your party !Throw and chuck pinwheels at the Almagest part of NED and kill it before it can fire. I think it is the strongest job in the game.
    Thief is overrated. there isn't enough equipment for them to steal for other characters and the things they do steal isn't enough of a significant upgrade to make it worth it. Their stealing niche is also eliminated in world 3 where everyone can get access to thief knife if they want to do the high-profile steals there. Their speed unfortunately doesn't factor into the damage calculation of the daggers they use except for the Chicken Knife. (this may be different in Pixel Remaster) I'd put them all the way down with Beastmaster and Geomancer since they tend to just do the same weak knife-attacks or hope some other job can give them a better command.
    Mystic Knight is weird, on one hand, they have the easiest kill possible on the almagest-part of NED, but on the other hand they really struggle in fights where you can't make use of elemental weaknesses. So seal guardians and Castle Exdeath are nasty roadblocks for them

    • @GreyWind1988

      Exdeath in the castle is actually super easy, barely an inconvenience. Any kind of reflect and he just can't so anything. Even a pure physical team can just farm reflect rings in barrier tower and he's helpless. He does so little damage when he can't use magic that even items can get healing done

    I mostly agree with this. I think you might slightly overvalue Knight and Thief and slightly undervalue Ranger but yeah. Pretty much this. One thing I would say is both Freelancer and Mime are jobs that I thought were inherently nerfed by a fiesta rule set (with vanilla rules, Freelancer and Mine basically serve the same roll as overpowered steam roller with Freelancer being better at the martial side and Mime being better at the magic side) but I think you may have been a voice of reason for Freelancer for me.
    Oh and the Romeo's Ballad thing with Omega... The old steam/mobile version of FF5 should be the same as the Pixel Remaster. Theoretically it's still possible to cheese the fight with Romeo's Ballad, but the key difference is in the SNES, PS1, and GBA versions the ATB resets when stop wears off and in mobile and PR, it picks up where it left off so it's virtually impossible to stop omega from ever getting a turn but it will definitely slow him down greatly if timed well.

I like doing fiesta runs, but I can never remember the details of how each job can function at its peak because the version differences and glitch exploits like chemist berzerk status or beastmaster calm ability....
    The pixel remaster probably makes some strategies obsolete and I am afraid to get it for that reason.

    Good list, a few things I disagree on (blue > all other mages IMO and red mage over dragoon and dancer over dragoon) but no matter. Chemist buffs a few jobs like blue mage (makes it easier to get certain spells like the level spells sooner because of slapping reflect on a foe like the red dragon with mix) and same with beast master of course, granted confuse with white mage or dancing dagger for confuse can make that less of an issue. Red mage with stuff like ancient sword and using poison/sleep can cheese a few bosses same as black mage so that is why I'd put him above the dancer.

    I love the berserkers, they do more damage than you think both from the fact that the weapons do 50-150% of their normal damage. combined with the high str stat being under berserk with grants 50% more damage and immune to confuse. The agility lost hurts but you can fix that if someone in your party can haste them. Most bosses and enemies fall pretty fast to a berserker or two as long as you have a support character.

  • @RagnarokiaNG

    While it takes a long set up time, Berserkers can be made the most powerful job in the game with a Bard due to not requiring inputs when maxing the speed song. I had my berserker solo the final boss with it only getting off a single attack before dying due to spending the first phase buffing the hell out of the berserker's speed. It was very funny.

    There is such a struggle to make consumable item classes balanced. Chemist can make your party invincible but gathering materials is such a pain. Using Alfyn's skills in Octopath have to better than other options or there wouldn't be any point to using them over the other jobs that only require sp to cast however, Alfyn's skills are completely busted overpowered, you want boost points? here you go. Want 9999 healing? Right here. Need Sp? on the double. Overall I feel like consumable classes are kind of out of place in rpgs, they just seem to be stronger options if you want to put in extra effort/grinding or play off a spreadsheet.

    • @nobodybroda3826
      @nobodybroda3826 2 года назад

      Yea, the balance is offset by the sheer fat that your playing an rpg! Unless your undertale, grinding is kinda one of the big pillars, whether we like it or not. Hell games that make grinding even easier like the Bravely series tend to bust the item classes even further, salve maker baby!

    • @Valigarmanda

      To be fair, Mirror Items in FFTA2 is incredibly cheesy and easy 150 damage with an X-potion. More if you have that support skill that doubles item effectiveness.

  • @krunkcleanup2949
    @krunkcleanup2949 4 месяца назад

    Doing a ratio system is fun too!
    Here's the rules:
    You are allowed to spend up to 7 points to buy jobs for your party.
    You don't have to spend all the points if you don't want to.
    S Tier = 4 points each: Samurai, Knight, Freelancer, Bard, Ninja
    A Tier = 3 points each: Time Mage, Summoner, Black Mage, Magic Knight
    B Tier = 2 points each: Thief, Blue Mage, White Mage, Hunter, Chemist
    C Tier = 1 point each: Dragoon, Red Mage, Dancer, Monk, Mime
    D Tier = 0 points each: Trainer, Geomancer, Berserker
    A good example of a fun team using this system would be: Bard, Blue Mage, Monk, Trainer.
    I used the order you had them in, but evened out the the amount in each tier. You could build the table however you want though.

    • @brickroadbrickroad

    • @simondiamond9628
      @simondiamond9628 День назад

      Hell, I'd do it cheaper. Assuming you're only paying for the job once (and not once for each PC)...
      I'll take the Blue Mage for 2 points, and then take the Beastmaster/Mediator for free. And that's it.
      I'm spending the other 5 points on a 12-pack.
      Make everyone a Blue Mage with at least 2 levels of Beastmaster/Mediator, for the "!Control" command.
      Go nuts, and nuke the game with "Death By Math".
      For added silliness, add on a Chemist and Time Mage, using the other 5 points (not that it's really needed).
      Blue Mage/Time Mage/Beastmaster/Chemist

It does everything Freelancer does (which is everything. Freelancer is the second best job, and again it's not even close) and more by having three command slots. If you work out your agility right, you can have one person click Rapid Fire, then everyone can copy that, or they can just drop Meteor because one of the four of you mastered Black Mage. It breaks the game over it's knee with a sickening crack.

  • @tiradegrandmarshal

    Mime is the one here I strongly disagree with. It inherits stats and abilities from mastered classes just as Freelancer does, and it's the only job that allows you to equip three abilities. That means Doublecast + two entire magic sets, as a typical example. It is THE endgame job for mage builds, just as Freelancer is for martial builds.

    Red Mage is my favorite class in the FF series. IMO in FFV, Red Mage should've been a Crystal 1 class while Black and White Mages should have been Crystal 2. They're decent early on, but the specialists are both better especially in the late game; availability is a thing to consider as well as top level performance, and putting something with a lower ceiling later in the game just hurts its viability twice.

I know of these types of attacks from other FF games and other rpgs, but NOWHERE in game does it tell me my money is being used for the attack so I was rolling with it for a while cause it literally has no indicator, or pop up telling you that you are using your money for the attack.       銭 (ぜに) [zeni] {money}
      投げ (なげ) [nage] {throw}
      They just didn’t translate it properly. It’s since been correctly localized as coin toss, but it looks weird to western cultures to see such a skill with a Japanese-themed class, so in later releases they stuck with leaving it in Japanese to give it a greater “samurai” theme I suppose.

    Faster Sprinting/Find Passages/Find Holes/Magic Shell etc do get carried but Two-handed/Long Reach etc. do not.
    Now I've played the Advance version and the PR so I might be off because the PR lacks the three bonus classes and the bonus Necromancer class, but generally every stat increase/utility passive gets carried over.

They can't use shields, I don't think they can even use medium armor, and they have almost the lowest health in the game (I think bard is similar and dancer is worse). You covered the issues with Dualcast, but it would legitimately be an A-tier class if it could cast level 4 magics (Bio, Shell, Esuna, Blink). As is, it is my least favorite class to see unless I also have Summoner. I'd rather have a Geomancer just for terrain immunity.

      Jobs like blue mage, chemist are broken if you know the game some, granted Chemist requires a bit of item gathering but pretty much will never die. Blue mage is the only mage able to use a shield. However, all the MP using book learning mages (time>summoner>=black>white) are great (with time's variety of spells varying), Bard is great, Geomancer never has any variety so depending on where you are will have it be good or bad and because it only uses bells it doesn't really add anything to other mages. Red mage starts off strong like monk but falls some in world 2 (though red mage can still do stuff like use sleep on atmos for example and various spell blades like the ancient one), if red mage will recover or not will depend on if you roll one of the 4 other mages (though redx2 can still help). Knight can solo the game fine and adds anything to anyone.
