does OP not have any other friends to go with? i wouldn't wanna have to spend my holiday worrying about my friend parting too much. finances & how you got there has nothing to do with it & it's understandable that the friend doesn't want to risk her career. the whole her career is no better than mine, that doesn't matter. if the friend is happy with her career why risk it? OP is just jealous. if i was the friend i would start to distance myself from op if that's what she thinks about ever thing

Honestly op sounds immature. What was with her “useless math statement? Does she not understand that “useless math” goes into the construction of the buildings which her events are hosted in? Does she not understand her job would not exist without her friends job? Does she have any clue how much of our daily lives involves engineering? I don’t know, but OP seems a bit bratty to me. It also sounded a bit like the pot calling the kettle black. Like she’s on her friend for not having student loan debt but she doesn’t either? Sounds like two privileged people. I know op could have gotten a scholarship, but all she says she got school for free. That is a privilege that many of us don’t get. I am happy for anyone who is able to graduate debt free how ever that happens for them, but don’t come at me and say your schooling was free and yet you’re not privileged. On the other side the friend could have worded their refusal differently but with OPs wording I’m wondering if the friend was badgered to the point where she snapped and wasn’t so nice in her response as a result. Op just rubbed me the wrong way so I tend to lean towards siding with the friend though I think it’s probably a case of these two trying to make a friendship last past it’s expiration date.
While the finance had nothing to do with it it seems to me that the friend does more insulting on OP than OP is telling us. And while it wasn't right OP had every right to lash out back at the friend. If the friend has never done partying with OP then the friend has no right to judge and assume how OP is for partying in the first place. The friend was out of line for it. The friend gets a 7 out of 10 while OP gets a 5 out of 10
