The biggest problem with that entire match was miscommunication, bad timing, and both guys acted unprofessionally. Mike Bell seemed kinda reckless while Saturn got mad and took his frustrations out on Bell. I'm pretty sure Saturn was heavily on drugs by this time due to the constant pain of a grueling WWE schedule and I'm sure that contributed to this as much as Mike Bell did. Pro wrestling is a great sport with a rich history but it is also so tough that many incidents like this happen due to frustrations. Saturn never truly reached his potential in WWE as I always felt he could easily be a mid card IC champ. I'm sure Saturn was also frustrated due to his spot on the card. Oh, and Stevie, you got it wrong! Saturn's finisher was called "the moss covered, three handled, family credunza" 😂
Theres a good documentary about wrestling and steroid use made by Mike Bells brother. They discuss Mike Bell being employed as a jobber commonly in WWF because guys like Scott Hall would ask for him specifically because he had access to drugs and steroids. So yeah Mike Bell had quite a bit of experience, and he also may have been using drugs at the time?

There have been tons of AMA discord interview with Perry Saturn in the Wrestling Organization Online discord. Sonny Onno, Mikey Whipwreck & Justin Credible are in there too and they have a cool wrestling game in that discord too.
Mike Bell was on "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" (a great documentary about steroid abuse made by his brother) and was unfortunately just one of those guys who never made it but was always convinced that his shot was just around the corner. I can 100% seeing him just being too excited, rushing things and pissing Perry off. I gotta say though, that ugly bump on his head is on him--you rarely get "thrown out of the ring"... it's entirely participatory. The whole "Perry threw him on his head" doesn't hold water for me. Alas, Mike Bell's drug abuse eventually caught up to him and he died in 2008.
@10:26 Vince trying to make an example out of how someone should treat another human being looses all credibility when he took a dump on someone’s head.

Pretty crazy how something that should have ended w a brief pause and recalibration, led to blowing a fuse and nearly paralyzing a guy for life. I wonder if this is what led to the whole "Moppy" Thing.
Why don’t wrestling promotions like the WWE either double up or lay a composite foam layer between the base and the outside mat? I mean, it would make sense to experiment for the longevity of your talent at the very least.
Even if they do, it's not going to be particularly thick or 'squishy' - too much give would make it difficult (if not dangerous) to walk and run on or have a stable base. Think walking on your bed kind of thing or running on soft sand. So these mats are going to be like gym mats - meant to cushion a little bit of local pressure, provide grip and balance, probably protect the floor underneath. Further, landing on your head is landing on your head; it isn't always about force but angle of landing, direction a body part is being forced, etc. For example, ever sleep in the wrong position and wake up with a really stiff neck? So a bad drop of 'only' 5 ft can be more than enough to cause serious damage.
Mike actually grabbed at the rope with his right arm there Stevie its the first thing he did when tossed at the rope was grab it. The slow mo shows him grab the rope.
@@DeanVarney If you use youtubes frame advance feature from around 5:53 you can see he reaches out full stretch with his right as he's bringing up his left, but by the time they meet his right has overshot the rope and he's already being turned over it. combined with his foot catching and stopping his forward momentum he drops straight down instead of continuing to roll over his shoulder
I watched an interview with Bayley, where she had the same experience against Alexa Bliss. She said Alexa kept moving and wouldn't listen, so Bayley snatched her in a headlock and made her take a breath.
Some of the backstage sayings and cultural aspects - such as "every match is fantastic when the wrestler asks when returning from the ring" - are applicable to other areas of life. Thank you for that!
When I watched the first airing of this match I was very confused as to why this match even made it to the show. The sheets reported that Vince did not see the match for a full week after it aired, and at that point he was livid. Push gone, manager gone, etc. If you contrast this against the Shaker Heights Spike video where Vince is on commentary with seemingly no qualms about enhancement guys landing on their heads - the only difference I see is that the Mike Bell incident happened _after_ the company went public. The way I see it, Vince was protecting his financial stake more than he was trying to protect Mike Bell.
After this he was punished with the moppy storyline and sent to like Sunday Night HEAT and then released After watching the video with Maven I was wondering when this one would show up and I expected Stevie to be the one to show us as well
Hi guys, hope someday you can do a breakdown like this of the match in which sadly el perro aguayo died. I know its a horrible incident but i will love to know your take on it
Mike Bell made a couple mistakes and Saturn felt like this guy was being reckless. Unfortunate overall when their lives are at stake but I’m glad Perry took responsibility and that neither of them had lifelong effects from this match.
Mike graduated from my HS a few years before me. Nice guy and family. Did my taxes for a few years 😂. His brother Chris put out a movie based around steroids…Bigger Stronger Faster 2008. Never watched it tho.

Mike Bell was known for being careless in the ring. He needed to be thrown out of the ring as a wake-up call.
so why did he have his hand on his shoulder at the start of the hip toss....Stevie kinda ignored James' question.
According to Cagematch, Stevie wrestled Bell in 2003 in WWE.
The bump that Bell took outside the ring could have paralysed him
But i never saw how Saturn is responseible for the landing...
Pissing off prime/peak Saturn......I'm running lol
I wouldn't piss him off today either 😅
Some of the backstage sayings and cultural aspects - such as "every match is fantastic when the wrestler asks when returning from the ring" - are applicable to other areas of life. Thank you for that!
Interesting, in neither move does Perry end up on his head
When I watched the first airing of this match I was very confused as to why this match even made it to the show. The sheets reported that Vince did not see the match for a full week after it aired, and at that point he was livid. Push gone, manager gone, etc.
If you contrast this against the Shaker Heights Spike video where Vince is on commentary with seemingly no qualms about enhancement guys landing on their heads - the only difference I see is that the Mike Bell incident happened _after_ the company went public. The way I see it, Vince was protecting his financial stake more than he was trying to protect Mike Bell.
After this he was punished with the moppy storyline and sent to like Sunday Night HEAT and then released
After watching the video with Maven I was wondering when this one would show up and I expected Stevie to be the one to show us as well
I like Saturn my kinda wrestler
Stevie sounds like the John Madden of wrestling tape.
video is looking nice guys.
Hi guys, hope someday you can do a breakdown like this of the match in which sadly el perro aguayo died. I know its a horrible incident but i will love to know your take on it
Saturn is 100% at fault. He should have been fired on the spot.
You can learn about Mike Bell in the documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster* which covers steroids in America. Good movie about the hypocrisy of performance enhancers in society.
