    • @NodakSavage
      @NodakSavage 12 дней назад

      The dumb thing about it is a move like that, given or taken, should be a given just based on the body position. I mean that's a move someone shouldn't even have to call. Honestly in my opinion its the person receiving that move that should be taking it properly, not the giver. It looks to me like Saturn fucked both those initial moves up and got mad as fuck and took it out on the guy. Probably why he got the treatment he got moving forward. Ultimately, it's like Stevie said, they were working way to fast. One thing I learned in training over a decade ago, and still remember to this day, "If you think your're working too slow, slow down". Best advice ever

  • @JohnWilliams-wl9px

    The biggest problem with that entire match was miscommunication, bad timing, and both guys acted unprofessionally. Mike Bell seemed kinda reckless while Saturn got mad and took his frustrations out on Bell. I'm pretty sure Saturn was heavily on drugs by this time due to the constant pain of a grueling WWE schedule and I'm sure that contributed to this as much as Mike Bell did. Pro wrestling is a great sport with a rich history but it is also so tough that many incidents like this happen due to frustrations. Saturn never truly reached his potential in WWE as I always felt he could easily be a mid card IC champ. I'm sure Saturn was also frustrated due to his spot on the card. Oh, and Stevie, you got it wrong! Saturn's finisher was called "the moss covered, three handled, family credunza" 😂

    • @Kane-yg5zy
      @Kane-yg5zy 14 дней назад +1

      Theres a good documentary about wrestling and steroid use made by Mike Bells brother. They discuss Mike Bell being employed as a jobber commonly in WWF because guys like Scott Hall would ask for him specifically because he had access to drugs and steroids.
      So yeah Mike Bell had quite a bit of experience, and he also may have been using drugs at the time?

    • @DWtechfan
      @DWtechfan 13 дней назад

      @Kane-yg5zy that's possible that Mike Bell was on drugs too. That would further explain the miscommunication and botches in that match.

    Maybe I’m way off but I’d LOVE to hear you talk about all the “rules” in wrestling matches that are supposed to be followed, are followed, aren’t followed etc.. an example would be how EVERYONE throws closed fist strikes and the ref kind of admonishes them for it but it’s never a DQ. Same with top rope moves when sometimes they count them for being on the ropes and sometimes they don’t. How in submissions it used to be the limp hand had to drop limp 3 times for the match to end but nowadays you see a ton of matches end when the hand just goes limp period. Sometimes without the drop even occurring. I’d love to know the “official rule set” and why some are enforced and others aren’t etc etc. btw amazing channel you have such an intelligent insight into the ins and outs of it the sport and could listen to you talk for hours! Hope you and your cohorts are all well!

Saturn said he threw Mike out of the ring so he could calm down and stop shooting on him. He did get the Moppy angle out of it which was ironically the most memorable role he ever had.

    Mike Bell was on "Bigger, Stronger, Faster" (a great documentary about steroid abuse made by his brother) and was unfortunately just one of those guys who never made it but was always convinced that his shot was just around the corner. I can 100% seeing him just being too excited, rushing things and pissing Perry off. I gotta say though, that ugly bump on his head is on him--you rarely get "thrown out of the ring"... it's entirely participatory. The whole "Perry threw him on his head" doesn't hold water for me.
    Alas, Mike Bell's drug abuse eventually caught up to him and he died in 2008.

    After the steps move, Perry tosses him back in, does a move into the turnbuckle, Terri comes over and settles Perry, Perry hits him him with a brainbuster mid-ring, goes for the pin, AND MIKE BELL KICKED OUT.
    I'm surprised Perry didn’t shoot on him AGAIN!

    What is your opinion on Adam Cole? He's also a video gamer. I've been watching since around '95. I remember you some of ECW, mostly the RTC stuff, but I loved your Stevie Kick, just like the Evenflow DDT, perfect finish to the character. I wish you had more matches, or made a return of some sort. You deserved better along with the rest of former ECW guys. But you seem like a genuinely good person. I wish you the best.

    Pretty crazy how something that should have ended w a brief pause and recalibration, led to blowing a fuse and nearly paralyzing a guy for life. I wonder if this is what led to the whole "Moppy" Thing.

    Why don’t wrestling promotions like the WWE either double up or lay a composite foam layer between the base and the outside mat? I mean, it would make sense to experiment for the longevity of your talent at the very least.

    • @PhotonBeast
      @PhotonBeast 13 дней назад

      Even if they do, it's not going to be particularly thick or 'squishy' - too much give would make it difficult (if not dangerous) to walk and run on or have a stable base. Think walking on your bed kind of thing or running on soft sand. So these mats are going to be like gym mats - meant to cushion a little bit of local pressure, provide grip and balance, probably protect the floor underneath. Further, landing on your head is landing on your head; it isn't always about force but angle of landing, direction a body part is being forced, etc. For example, ever sleep in the wrong position and wake up with a really stiff neck? So a bad drop of 'only' 5 ft can be more than enough to cause serious damage.

      @@DeanVarney If you use youtubes frame advance feature from around 5:53 you can see he reaches out full stretch with his right as he's bringing up his left, but by the time they meet his right has overshot the rope and he's already being turned over it. combined with his foot catching and stopping his forward momentum he drops straight down instead of continuing to roll over his shoulder

    When I watched the first airing of this match I was very confused as to why this match even made it to the show. The sheets reported that Vince did not see the match for a full week after it aired, and at that point he was livid. Push gone, manager gone, etc.
    If you contrast this against the Shaker Heights Spike video where Vince is on commentary with seemingly no qualms about enhancement guys landing on their heads - the only difference I see is that the Mike Bell incident happened _after_ the company went public. The way I see it, Vince was protecting his financial stake more than he was trying to protect Mike Bell.
