  • This organic chemistry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into alcohol reactions. It covers reactions with SOCl2, HBr, PBr3, and TsCl with Alcohols. It discusses the stereochemistry of converting alcohols into alkyl halides using SN1 reactions and SN2 reactions. It also mentions the tosylation of alcohols as well.

Hey, I’m in orgo 2 now(after making a C in orgo 1) and I am just lost I watch your videos and it makes sense but when it comes test time I gave no clue what I’m looking at or doing, what should I do? I haven’t really had a mental block like this for a class before

Watch his videos and do practice problems, especially those similar to ones on the test. Do problems until you know how to solve each type of problem. Let nothing get behind you

Oh, ok! So the O in Ethanol(?) has a stronger polarity than Br so it takes the H from HBr (to be H2O and Ethylbromide?) Dig it (noob, thanks COVID hahahaha).

Hello, please am confused when you said PBr3 even though reacting with the secondary alcohol proceeds through an SN2 reaction. Because we know secondary and tertiary alcohols are SN1 reactions.
