Compare the players in 1997 vs 2019. I have to say in 1997 there were plenty of out of shape 30+ year old guys. In 2019 the top players were trim, athletic and they looked like they hit the gym every day. Don't tell me that isn't Tiger's influence.

I was born in 1996, my father gave me the gift of this game when I was 8 years old. As his father did for him. I’ve only really known a world of golf that Tiger was on top of. My grandfather is black, my father mixed and myself white passing with some curls. When my grandfather started to play this game, his equipment was the cheapest you could find, he either wasn’t allowed on the course, was mistaken for a bag boy who would carry your sticks for a tip, was laughed at for thinking he could belong or was told blatantly that he didn’t. The problem was he loved the game, the greens would whisper to him. When I tell you that i’ve never seen him hit a bad shot, I mean i’ve never seen him not strike the ball flush, he has all the shots in his bag, flop, punch, draw, fade, he can spin it, hes money out of the bunker and his hands are softer than the cocoa butter in mamas medicine cabinet. To grow up seeing him glued to a tv set for 4 hours straight, reacting to every single shot as if he hit it himself, there was something special about that, I can only imagine how loud that house got watching this round. My grandpa is quickly approaching 90, is blind out his left eye, the arthritis is bad, but you can still catch him at the country club 3 times a week, slanging that thing. I’m not sure I ever could have understood his love for the game if it wasn’t for Tiger. Life’s shorter than we think boys, Drive those short par 4s and sink something.

Being a 5 year old kid in 1991, starting golf...then getting to 1997 as a 10 year old kid...seeing this, understanding this....incredible. Didn't appreciate it at the moment it happened, viewed it to be less than what it was. Growing up as a golfer in the prime Tiger Era...what a great time to be a young kid golfing.

I would often tell my playing partners that if Tiger’s not playing I’m playing golf, if he is playing, I’m watching golf! He brought excitement to the game. Where he really changed things was when he started using the solid ball around 2000.

I love golf for two reasons. 2 because of this Great Masters tournament that I watched at My Grandfathers house with my dad, grandfather (Mom's Dad) who was a long-time golfer, and his dad my great grandfather also a golfer. The number 1 reason and always family. Golf is in the blood of my family. My great grandfathers and my grandfathers on both side of my parents were golfers. My father is a golfer as well. A tournament I will always remember.

Tiger made it look easy here, but I love how he eventually became a grinder who didn't just rely on his talent but used his mind to will himself to major victories. I remember thinking once he got his game together and not just relying on his raw talent, he would dominate and that's just what he did starting with the 1999 PGA Championship, going onto win 7 out of 11 majors, including the Tiger Slam. Everyone thinks of '97 as when Tiger arrived, but to me this just showed how much talent he had. The '99 PGA is when he showed what it takes to be a consistent major champion.
