I first saw Sweeney Todd as the 2007 Tim Burton movie, but since then I’ve loved the detail where Benjamin who has been subsidizing on God-only-knows-what food in Penal Colony Australia… STILL CAN’T SWALLOW THE pïě!!! 😂
My absolute dream is to see a broadway show... being in europe its a faraway dream for now, but i can't wait for the day i'll witness it, and this adaptation of sweeney todd looks amazing !!
Okay so in her defense, the weird accent she uses really works for how freaking weird she makes the character. As someone who studies dialects I thought I was going to cringe through her accent the whole show but by the end it just felt like a quirk of her personality and I fully bought into it. Like, whatever it is, she commits to it fully and that made it work for me.
@@erickgonzalez408I played it at 1.25x speed and it sounded better. Though her movements became jumpy. It's crazy how Helena Bonham Carter had a better performance.
Looking at other recordings it seems like it's usually normal speed, this matches with a clip I saw as part of the Tony awards so maybe it's just part of a showcase performance for that? It is weird that it's slowed, good news is that it's probably not in the actual show
The first part is about 90 bpm in this clip, as sung by Annaleigh Ashford. In the Tim Burton film, it's also about 90 bpm. The 2012 London production is also about 90 bpm, as sung by Imelda Staunton (and lauded by Sondheim himself). The outlier seems to be the OBC recording which is faster, about 100 bpm, as sung by Angela Lansbury.
I thought it was going to be the same way when I went and saw the show, but I think that it's just because this was for promotional. Her performance was amazing. She truly was one of the best parts of the show because her singing and acting was fantastic, plus her comedic timing just made her such a funny Mrs. Lovett.
@muskratrepairservices7701 this doesn't seem like a great video for her but I just went to see the show on Sunday and she was incredible. This musical is basically about her at this point. She stole every single scene she was in. And her comedic timing was perfect.
This has to just be a weird vibe for the camera in the promo shoot. I don't doubt she's phenomenal. Especially after seeing her as Dot in Sunday. Id trust her with any Sondheim. (Would love to see her as the bakers wife in Into the Woods.)
Bruh ive been looking everywhere for clips of the most recent Sweeny Todd since i cant fly to New York to watch the performance
same lol
her voice is amazing
Saw it last night and she absolutely killed it. Stole the show.
Agreed she totally overshadowed him in the best way❤
Same here, she was amazing.
Love how Todd at first is like: “Nope!”

OMG her gesticulations are perfect. Wiping the dead bugs on Todd's sleeve. Holy shit, lol.
Just saw this and it was phenomenal.
Just saw it today and it’s incredible
i love her so much

Phenomenal performances all around. Joe Locked was amazing as Toby
Ahhh it needs more love
Todd trying to leave LMAO!!!
This one was great. 😮😂❤
That's who I'm being for Halloween. Mrs. Lovett.
I'm gonna be Sweeney for Halloween
such a good costume idea !! I might steal this
She was amazing!
You gave me such a FROAU!
lois griffin if she was going for a british accent lol
Gosh why everyone so mean in the comments :D
I thought it was fun. Everyone brings something different.
Portably my second favorite Mrs Lovett
Oh please come on tour with you as the lead
I want to see the whole thing
Very slow indeed
What is she saying?
Oof, what accent is she going for?
😂
Exactly

Horrendous
That’s just the character- she’s supposed to sound like that.
Olyan aranyosak,❤️❤️🥰🥰
Aren’t they supposed to be middle aged? They look like they’re in their early 20s here LOL
I think they're just younger than they look. Like, in their late 30s early 40s
These comments are pissing me off.
It's slowed
I’m just assuming. Maybe to make it easier for her to sing so she had more time to take breaths? Maybe
It’s not slowed 😢 she impressed the complexity of the song with her feeling ❤

The tempo is too slow and there's no gusto.
Someone else just pointed out its the same tempo as the original, and he's right. About 88. I think it's how she draws out the notes.
How is everyone ignoring the awful accent?!
You know I thought I was the only one haha.
It's alright it just makes her seem more crazy :D

Woof. My favorite play. This looks forced af. Thank god i saw that disco themed david byrne production about a dictatorship in the Phillipines instead

Awesome! That’s great to hear, glad you had a good time

I saw the saw back in May and she was fantastic. Her chemistry with Groban is so good. They probably are my favorite Sweeney and Lovett

Saw it tonight and she was just awful. If you saw this and thought it looked bad -- its ten times worse live
This better be fucking rage bait bro.
