Strange that the upgraded tensioner failed...usually happens on the 1st or 2nd gen tensioners. Thanks for posting your videos on the XJ8, much appreciated.
It was not the tensioner, when I started the car it sounds like the flywheel is busted.
hey Robert ! the worst scenario happened To my wife's 01 XJ8 VDP. the tensioner chain literally broke on passenger side & breaking the cover when the chain whiplashed against it. I don't know weather to attempt a teardown & fix because I think valves may have slapped pistons & possibly bent in process. what is you're opinion fix or swap out altogether?
See if it's an interference engine. If not, just retime it and install another chain, tensioner, etc. You can usually find out on Parts Geek or ask the guys on JaguarForums.com
Greetings. I would like to contact the you Directly but here is a Question sir. I have the 2001 Jaguar XJ8 I bought not running for cheap it wasn't a working car I pulled the passenger side covers for the cam and timing chain and saw that the tensioner chain was broking. What would you do sir.? Help!
find out if that damages valves.
@@RobertDIY thank you and I will do
Is it just the one on each side, or two? is there any more videos on this. How do tell if theyve been changed or not?
What are you talking about?

I have misfire on driver's side cylinders. Could that be a secondary tensioner issue? 2000 xj8.
I have no idea. Have you checked plugs?

You had the tool in there right but you were pulling it counterclockwise from what I seen in the video it should have rolled I've done them before but I pushed it forward like righty tighty lefty Loosey righty tighty is clockwise Lefty Loosey is counterclockwise
That thing is tight. I believe it should be turned clockwise looking at the engine from the front of the car towards the back.
I have a 2006 jag it tap but don't seem like the motor
ok
doing my tensioners in 2 days.
Good deal
Cliffhanger??? Where’s the start up!
Man, sounded like the flywheel was about to come through the firewall. 😵
Does that mean that the replacement did not fix the problem or that you possibly did it wrong? I'm wondering if mine just failed, lots of terrible clacking.
How is the snow up North ? Please leave Frosty The Snow Man up north . Please don't bring him with you when you come south.
I hope it works like that. I don't like it.
Hopefully it fixed the noise, otherwise something else is jiggling about lol.
im guessing its something else ....that seemed tight !
Flywheel busted. :/
