I was using wooden Sherwood sticks at the college hockey level before he was born. So crazy how the stick technology has changed the mechanics of the hockey shot.
I'm almost 50 and only played till Pee Wee's (moved and didn't have hockey offered) The sticks have come so far! Both my kids play now and it's been like relearning the game again. Like you said, the mechanics of the shot are totally different now.
I think you’ve got that backwards. Starting at the toe would be slightly less spin but more velocity. But you are correct, 90% of guys (myself included) tape heel to toe

His was so average with 0.32 goals a game and dismal shooting average, not even close to true rookie stars of years past (check the numbers Connor Lovers).
