For me,Whitney Houston is the best vocalist of all time and now Whitney Houston is known as "the voice" because of her powerful voice,no one can beat her.
Whitney definitely inspired many female vocalists, including me. She will always be THE VOICE.

I can remember the first time I heard a Whitney's song. It was One moment in time... I am Brazilian and at that time I couldn't even understand English... I was around 8 - 9 years old... I was walking on the streets and heard that voice, that song and it captured me... I was amazed and could feel an emotion I can't describe... Who was singing that song? I asked myself and then I started following her career and listening her songs as much as I could and I have Whitney as an inspiration in my life... She was so much more than just a singer or entertainer... I am very proud of being Whitney's fan and I miss her a lot. I keep listening to her and the emotion is always the same :)

I don't remember exactly how old I was when I first heard her. I really was little boy, certainly under 5 years because I used to hear some of her songs far back before I got schooled (at 5yrs old) and her voice was already resonating in my mind but just like you I didn't know a single word in English or even know who she actually was but I simply fell in love with her and Celine Dion and their music.
The day I knew her name was Whitney Houston, I was walking slowly in the street from school and I heard "The Greatest Love Of All" was playing on the radio in a little shop . I stopped there till the song ended and then the journalist said "WE'VE JUST LISTENED TO THE GOLDEN VOICE OF THE BEAUTIFUL AMERICAN SINGER WHITNEY HOUSTON " and I said to myself "aaahaaan! So, she is called Whitney Houston! " .Since then, I never forgot her.

Actually Mariah was slightly more influential. I mean like both of them did vocal runs, but Mariah was much more proficient and made intricate riffs/runs more popular among mainstream artists. She is also the reason why we have singer/rapper collaborations today. It all started with Mariah's Fantasy Remix with ODB. Mariah is what all artists strive to become. Whitney was special but Mariah did many things that Whitney couldn't: songwriting, 5 octave range, strong in every register, versatile. Whitney was influential but Mariah is probably THE MOST influential artist in history.

Influence in music industry? No. Whitney's impact on the musical choices of artists perished after the 90s. You can easily remove all of Whitney's work from history and 00s and 10s music would still exist.
Among many of her 90s influenced list, Mariah is often mentioned. But it must be noted that Mariah sought the same inspiration from Whitney as she got from Michael, as in both being one of the GOATs and inspiring on a personal level. Vocally, neither Whitney nor Michael influenced Mariah. On a 2018 interview with Andy Cohen, Mariah clearly dismissed Whitney's vocal influence in saying "they wanted to push me in that direction, but I had my own sound". Forcing somebody to sound like someone else doesn't mean influence. Mariah NEVER wanted to incorporate Whitney sound on her albums. And any similarity which they had on their first albums sprung from Aretha and Stevie. Whitney and Mariah were just compared because of the type of songs and the producers and the chart domination-a consipracy theory of Motola.
