What if Kaiba had dueled Atem in the Cerimonial Duel instead of Yugi?
Remember Kaiba knew how to deal with 1 God, but he himself said if all 3 were on the field, he didn't know a combo that could defeat all of them.

This hurts dude. When Atem had the 3 gods on the field, he could have used obelisk's effect to tribute the other 2 and deal enough damage to win. And even if the damage wasn't enough, obelisk would have infinite attack. HUGE misplay there atem

@@NaBYGO the weirdness of some dm era duels is that some effects function as attacks, except…
Obelisk in the anime is cracked, because you can’t use Ra by itself to block its attack like in the manga. And even if it cant destroy Slifer/its target (in the anime) it’ll still inflict direct quasi-effect battle damage.
So while Seto using Interdimensional Transmatter would probably work in the manga (if he even has it there), Obelisk just goes ham even with Negate Attack and other attack manipulating effects since not many characters can prevent damage and/or destruction like Playmaker, Yusei & Yugi.
That’s why his best bet is to infect Obelisk with Crush Card Virus before it is summoned.

@@MegaMachiOnline Ra is the one nerfed, blocking its attack is the reason Ra is said as the strongest. I mean Slifer also destroyed Ra in the ceremonial duel, so it's not Obelisk issue.
Kaiba can either take Obelisk with Lullaby of Obedience or yes, Crush Card when the Gods are still in Deck, which he did in 2016 and 2019 scripted duels.

but the anime already showcased a nerf in battle city vis class system negating obelisk’s attack when ra not being boomed would’ve protected marik anyways

Yeah I know, that was the purpose and is explained in the description. Kaiba himself said he had no strategy vs 3 gods.

Ignoring that Atem could have won with Obelisk, Shining Dragon is outright stated to be better than the Gods.

1:52 On Main Phase 2 after attacking Slifer, Kaiba might have been able to use Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon's effect to destroy Obelisk and Ra. It's unclear how powerful Shining Nova is, but the movie implies that it can pop even god cards.

Can't be done anyway. The writers messed up because Kaiba won when he attacked with Shining Dragon except they forgot Paladin of White Dragon is, you know, a dragon. Also Deck Destruction Virus doesn't work on Peten. Blame the animators for that one.
