My uncle had one for use in his orchard. I never recall it running for any longer than the one in this video. Somehow my dad ended up with it, where it sat for years under the workbench. Don't remember my dad ever using it - the saw wouldn't let him.
I think 50 years after this was made they scaled it down, made it electric, and called it a turkey carver ( electric knife) which I'm sure worked better than this. P.s. I love seeing old tools run!!
It is legitimate reciprocating saw.... These are very cool. You can still find them working and not working on eBay from time to time. I work at a hardware store we are a stihl dealership. 3 or 4 times a week, full grown men walk into the store with a chainsaw and ask me if I have if I have blades.. It's always the same, I answer With a question... what kind or saw do you need blades for???. All the blades are over in isle 9. Reciprocating saw blades, jigsaw blades, scroll saw blades..wait...your holding a CHAINSAW...We do have chains...
It’s a reciprocating saw, I think black and decker or dewalt make one that runs off electric that works pretty well but it doesn’t have the top cover over the blade, it’s similar to a regular saw blade that goes back and forth at high revs.
Milwaukee popularized the sawzall style electric recip but everyone makes them now. My old US built Milwaukee sawzall I inherited from my dad is an absolute tank though Id much rather have my chainsaw for big cuts, recip blades get way too hot buried in a log. having a chain that moves continuously through the wood, taking chips and heat with it, is a better system, just higher maintenance.
Poulans are great saws. I have 4. My modified Wild Thing is just as fast as my Husqvarna. I've had it and my 2450 30 years. I use them regularly since I heat with wood only. I recently got a 245a I want to get running. It's the Leatherface saw. And I have our Homelite XL12 my uncle bought new. First saw I ever used. I was 12.
You're scaring the dog with that thing! My neighbor had one of these beasts -- (The saw... not the dog...) We tried and tried but never could get it to start. Just as well, I suppose. Looks scary. Thanks for posting this video.
I remember seeing these in old Popular Mechanics magazines from the 1960's. The ads showed fellows using it to build houses cutting the lumber. They obviously jammed easily as shown here; thus the introduction of circular saws not very long after.....

This this is not a chainsaw.... There is no chain at all whatsoever. It is a petrol reciprocating saw. 2 blades go back-and-forth like Is an electric meat carving knife.

Same here, it would start but not run very long.
It was a feature to save fuel 😂

Kind of a heavy thing that is

Break that out for Thanksgiving! I would. I'm that guy! Lol
By virtue of how it worked it is not a chainsaw it is a reciprocating saw.
Hella. I been trying to decide. Is that a top bar kover for the chain, like a guard? Or is this legit what it looks like?
But nobody would have found this video had he titled it that.
unless you knew the brand.

The sawzall before Milwaukee was a thing

The way that summbitch died halfway thru the cut leads me to believe its made by Poulan !! 🙍♂️

C'est bon pour couper du pain! ;)...Excellent!
I was wondering how effective a reciprocating saw is, compared to a chainsaw. Now I know.
There waayyyy less effective than a chainsaw
Its a bonesaw
These would probably make nicer cuts on a log cabin.
It's not a chainsaw, its a reciprocating saw :-)
Alligator saw
exactly what i came here to say
Either way, don't let your kids play with it. It's not a toy.
ورثه عن أجداده ولم يحسن إستعماله ..!
Even when it's not running it'll hurt you

I've had one for 35 yrs and now want to take it to the saw shop and get it running
It actually cuts surprisingly fast , i can imagine how fast it will cut when the saw is maintained and the engine is working in order..
No, it will always cut badly. Do your homework. That's why they dont make these style of reciprocating saws anymore.
L
🤦♂️
No it doesn’t…
It doesn't cut
lol, the English auto-generated subtitles are pretty funny
Did it just lock up?
It cuts like an old saw too, what an improvement over the years saws have seen
Tools have improved dramatically. People, not so much. They regressed.
Had a old homelite ,it was like picking up a 25 horse outboard motor 🇺🇲
Which one? I still have my Dad's old XL12. I've got to do some work on it. Someone dropped a screw in the Cylinder it looks like.
His Chainsaw Ran outta Gas when he cut the Tree wood in his truck

I'm giving her all she's got scotty!!
Aughh,aughh,auughhh,auuuuuughhhhhh.
Guy Snoring is waving you
So chainsaw blade cut into rotten timber?
I had one of those ..its a reciprocating saw , many butchers still use them when halving an animal on site
I’m happy to see someone else knows that these aren’t meant for wood.
Its like reciprocating saw system right?
This saw needs a sharpening and teeth set. Then it will surprise you Sir.
That’s a biggest Sawzall I’ve ever seen. Haha
That would be a gas recip saw not a chainsaw right? The one tool missing from Milwaukee's lineup. The 2 stroke sawzall!
Yea. Hard to call it a CHAINsaw, since it doesn't have the main requirement, a Chain.
For a moment I thought he was going after the dog.
Not a chain saw and it cuts horribly. This is a jacked up reciprocating saw.
For a second there, I thought it was sling blade working on a small engine.
That's one gangster sawzall
Super cool technology, wouldn't call it a chain saw though, seems like its just a gas powered reciprocating saw.
Never heard or seen anything like that in my life😂😂 Madness

wtf why did this show up when i searched ''goofy ahh chainsaw''
If I had to guess this is pre 1960 and probably closer to 1950. I'd also guess there's a reason they don't make 'em like this anymore!
The first Sawsall.
0:03 its ur puppy
were cann i buy one of them saws
I'm here because I searched Chainsaw Man and thought maybe my CSM fam be commenting here but I guessed incorrectly.

how is this a chainsaw when it has no chain?

Oh god that is just an intimidation device
My grandfather had one of these
Thought I'd be thrilled, wasnt.
Like a sponge through butter
Eric Mason.....had a small white dog just like that one...and the same saw.....late 60s.
Waow that was interesting old chainsaw
I believe they shut off because there’s a kill switch in the throttle lever
I think really old is gold
Basically just a glorified electric bread knife
jeaaahhhhh!!! that is cuttingmachine!!!!!

That's not a chain saw. Thats a reciprocating saw.
What's mr. Bean doing with a chainsaw?
this thing is hilarious
I can see why they invented the chain instead of reciprocating as lot more efficient at cutting
Cause it not for wood cutting
Goofy ahh chainsaw
Sorry but if it is a chainsaw where is the chain???
thanks you brother @ i never saw before !
Where is the chain?
If it was sharpened and clean it could be used on a pig at a pig roast. 😀
Technically it's not a chainsaw, but nonetheless it's stll a saw
That's no chain saw!

Could an average guy sharpen one of these?
But... Do you really want that thing to be sharp? I feel like its one revolution away from having a significant emotional event.
Heh.....with that saw you do the half of the job.....crazy saw.🙈
That is wicked cool

That's not a chain saw where's the chain ??
More like a gas sawzall
