Never really questioned what the lines were, but I always thought it was pretty self-explanatory that you're not supposed to park there. It's honestly surprising to me that this is a problem.

I've had people park golf carts there at my supermarket because they feel entitled. We have a retirement village (that a lot of wealthier people live at too, mind you) behind our store, so we even have specific spaces for their golf carts. But I guess that's not good enough for some 🙄

As i say almost daily, "people are fucking stupid."
There's still people that don't get out of the way of emergency vehicles when they're flying with full sirens and lights. People not knowing where they are and are not supposed to park doesn't surprise me.
I drive my grandfather where he needs to go, he uses a wheelchair and about 75% of the time we come back out to the parking lot someone's parked in the wheelchair access next to us

Yes. As a caregiver for someone with cp I must say it's incredibly frustrating when people do this (far more frequent than you would think). I actually had someone honk at me as I was lowering the ramp one time because they wanted to park there. Needless to say I had some choice words for that lazy asshole.
sounds like it would be tempting to let the ramp hit their car and then do it repeatedly until they move it. And then claim you thought it was stuck so you kept hitting the down button not realizing a car was in the hash marks.

I found it highly interesting that a 'good guy' turned out to be the one performing the transgression. I was so pleased to see this in the video. When folks are looking at the world in black and white these days, bashing others if they are not perfect or think 100% in a certain way, it is unproductive. You did not create the typical villain that dumbs us down. You have a real person, a nice person, an unschooled person, in the prohibited space. It would seem people have missed the obvious solution: make the ramps strong enough to push the offending vehicles out of the way.
Unless your vehicle is very well grounded or is a literal tank, you'd also get pushed away too.

They should start putting poles in the front of the parkings that have enough space for a wheelchair to get through but prevent cars from parking there

Damn that's a good idea. And a camera so we can watch people hit the pole on RUclips and laugh at how stupid they are! Everyone wins!
The only problem with that idea is that during the winter snow could not be plowed out of the spot which would then cause another issue of not being able to get out of the vehicle. This could be fixed by someone hand shoveling it but it may be done poorly.
That’s a good idea, they would just have to be wide enough for a wheelchair to get through.
I've seen where the car/van goes sideways so there's no way to park in the aisle. It takes up a little more space but means you can't be blocked out of the vehicle.
Sometimes my friend has me park my motorcycle there so cars don't get in the way of her ramp. Seriously though, more people need their cars keyed. Maybe they'll learn.
Sadly, they won't learn. They'll learn what it feels like to get their car keyed, but it won't stop them from parking there.
you're sending a bad message by parking your bike there.. No one knows the context, they'll just see it as some person with a motorcycle thinking they can park anywhere they want. I'd be careful you might get your ride keyed for the exact reason you say more cars need to be keyed for doing it..

A use to have a quadriplegic friend who would constantly test the accessibility of places. We would go into stores and he'd "accidentally" back into shelves and knock off and destroy products. Hed "accidentally" ram the side of his chair into cars blocking his way which resulted in scratching up the paint. It was quite entertaining. Who's going to tell a guy who can only move his head that he's an asshole? There aren't many people that will.

I have a blue placard and I didn't know it was wrong to park in the blue van parking spots. I thought the placard meant you could park in any spot requiring the placard. This was helpful.
I have a placard, too, and I always try not to park in the van spots. Since I can walk short distances I'll also park in the regular spots if a close one is available.
I reckon Zach's voice would blend in very well as a South Park character. Something about the way he talks reminds me of when Trey Parker does those fake movie trailers about Rob Schneider movies.

I once accidentally parked in a handicapped parking space (accidentally because the sign was mostly covered and the paint was almost completely worn off the space, and it had rained before I got there, making it even harder to see) and I still feel bad about it. That doesn't really have to do with the space by the handicapped spots but man I feel bad about it.

My town has so many elderly and they all have placards BUT they don't realize that the striped zone is not an additional parking spot. It's insanity.

@Damnit Bobby I'm talking about the STRIPES with the huge "no parking" emblazoned across them. No matter what placard you have, you CANNOT park over a spot that states it's a no parking zone. As you see here in video the consequences are that you impede people with accessible vans from lowering their ramps. Come on now, use a little common sense instead of coming at someone on the internet about something as cut and dry as that. There's no opinions there, just facts. Photographic evidence, video evidence.

It's not just for wheel chairs, people with walkers and canes appreciate the extra space to get in and not having to contour as close to the door as possible because soneone parked too close. I don't know how clear cut this has to be, but i guess people can and will argue about anything.

The other day I was in a handicap spot (I am disabled) and a car hung their sticker and parked in the areas isle for my spot, like the sticker gave free reign to park anyplace. It's so rude. I have seen people park the craziest plsces and pull out their sticker like that is a free pass

But I actually got into with a woman because of this exact reason a few days ago! I made a comment to her about it and she cussed me out while telling me to mind my business.
I only said something in the first place because my grandmother is handicapped and couldn't find parking but even she just found parking elsewhere. Why couldn't she do the same? Then this woman's daughter comes looking for me in the store and tried to fight me in front of my grandma... classy am I right?
I understand where you're coming from. My husband (disabled veteran with placard and plates) yelled at a guy on his motorcycle for parking in the striped lines. The guy said that he was having a bad day and didn't feel like hearing about his choice of poor parking. My husband said, "You have a bad day? How about talking to someone like me who's body is jacked up from protecting your freedom and every day is a bad day from PTSD and pain? You're doing a disservice for those who need to use those striped lines for wheelchairs to enter and exit their vehicles and those like myself who needs to park in the same parking spots? Either move your motorcycle or we'll take pictures of your bike, plate and where you are parked and turn it to our friend who is in law enforcement?" (By this time I was already on the phone with our police friend to see if he was in the area because I thought the guy was going to start a fight with my husband... I know, I know 911 but at the time I was calling who came to mind first.) This guy was like, "Whatever... And I don't give a f*ck." And he left with flipping us and everyone else. (Yeah, I did take pictures before the guy left and our friend said that he would see what he could do but no guarantees.)

Criminey Jenkins You and your husband sounds like assholes if y’all thought escalating the situation with yelling and personal attacks was the best solution. All you gotta do is ask nicely instead of making enemies of folks, no need to vent your unrelated anger on someone who might not actually deserve that kind of treatment for what might be a simple mistake. Tell them the deal, take pictures if they don’t listen and you need proof then move on. At least you didn’t key the guys motorcycle but escalating a situation to the point you feel the need to call police? Not right, they got better things to worry about then potentially getting injured from a very stupid reason to start an altercation when it’s not necessary.
@@AriasArius A For the sake of not going into complete details of all what was said by the other guy (some of which were threats against our lives and others in the area) I felt justified by calling our law enforcement friend. If you happened to be at the same location and time that my husband and I were at and have a different perspective on what was said then by all means post it on here. If not, butt out.

I use to paint parking lot lines, and we would have to constantly fix improperly painted handicaps that either lacked handicap access spots, or had them painted the wrong color.
